Prototype 12ga. Shotgun Slug - Bissell Blaster

This week Evan Perry is up to bat with his "Bissell Blaster" prototype slugs. We test them out through both smoothbore and full-rifling. Made from a commutator from an electric motor, these are classic Evan slugs for sure!

It folds up very compact. The problem is the gun is VERY light, about 3.5lbs. so the recoil is pretty harsh.

If it's the same model I have, it's not great. Cheap plastic furniture and it doesn't even have an ejector - just a marginally functional extractor. And you're going to need a strong thumb if you intend to shoot it more than a couple times in a row, because that hammer spring is stiff as all get out and it doesn't cock itself. You used to be able to get 'em for like $70 on GunBroker, if that tells you anything. But it's not horrible for what it is, and it would absolutely be better than nothing if it was the only thing you had.

Just throwing this out there for Evan Perry ..... Two stroke dirt bikes have encaged roller bearings between the O.D of the piston pin and I.D. of the small end of the connecting rod . How about all those needle bearings in their cage slid over a solid core with a shoulder at the back of the core for the bearing to butt up against ? Not sure of the bearing O.D. you'd want but the specs for (Honda lets say) two stroke connecting rod small end I.D should be out there on the Web . Don't have the machining facilities or skills to try doing it myself .

You know, Jeff, you putting that slug into a birdshot case gives me an idea. From now on, do the same with all experimental loads, making as close a match of the mass of the slug to whatever the original shot load was, in the interest of standardizing as best you can. I’m not dumping on your reloading skills here. I mean, you’ve admitted to a few famous mistakes in that vein. Sometimes you hit a sweet spot, sometimes you don’t. My idea is to remove as much guesswork as possible, making it simpler to pin all the resulting weirdness on the slug under test, eliminating as many variables as possible. What do you think?
