To mr Evans: What about having deeper grooves? And a more menacing tip with would carve through air, and the air would follow from the tip into the grooves? Idk ... i know nothing about this subject. Not sure what the point would be since the slug does quite well ... other than for fun i guess :)

@@It-b-Blair Yeah, thanks. Supersonic characteristics are all about maintaining a pocket of air around the object that ultimately refines itself as the optimum flight shape for passing the bulk of the air. A flat front, perpendicular to trajectory is never optimum. A stepped or angular nose might be better, but the classic bottlenose shape fits most ballistic shapes, supersonic or not.

I loved that secondary shock wave. I still think it had to be the sound return coming back. I wonder if you could make a blank round with no projectile or a projectile that would still allow pressure in the bore to build that would almost instantly go subsonic out of the barrel and shoot that closer to the ground to see the sound wave separate of the shock wave from the projectile. There's some kind of fun science going on there.

There are two kinds of measuring systems. The one that put men on the Moon, and then there's the metric system for everyone else.
@LENZ5369
@LENZ5369 3 ай бұрын
Actually you are talking about 'metric' system in both cases -US gov 'legally/technically' switched to metric in the 1800s (all USC are defined in metric, eg. US 1 lb is legally 0.4536 kilograms), most scientists in the US started switching to metric in the 1800s and up until the 2000s NASA used both (with US customary was mostly used for comms with the public and businesses); since then -them (and most of the US gov) is overtly 'metric'. Additionally there a bunch of stuff for which USC has no units for; eg. electricity -NASA would have needed to invent new USC units; without metric.
@mr.pavone9719
@mr.pavone9719 11 ай бұрын
We don't use Imperial measurements in the USA, we use US Customary. Imperial measurements run larger. For example, an Imperial pint is 20oz. US Customary is far superior in that it is defined by metric but is awesome, unlike metric.

Those slugs are pretty nice. I always feel like a kid watching these videos. Who cannot love shooting crazy things with a shotgun, using strange and exotic slugs? My first gun was a 22LR rifle. My second gun was a 12ga 870 my Dad got from a pawn shop. It was rough. We took it apart, refinished the wood. Someone left the thing in the rain or something stupid like that. The metal was fine. I used to shoot all manner of crap at the county dump with that gun. I even fished with it! I got up on low bluffs overlooking the river and would shoot gar when they came to the surface. Gar would always screw with my trot lines. I am 65 now and I still use that gun for dove and turkey hunting every year, and for varmint work around the chicken coop at night here on the ranch. These videos make all those memories flood back. Thanks guys. Very enjoyable for sure.

99% off the world doesn't use imperial because we simply don't need to add complexity to something that works perfectly fine the way it is. in fact science in general is based in metric, and then translated over to imperial from time to time in order to make some very few countries on the earth understand it. so in fact, you're an outlier in the states. there's simply no need to imperial as long as we have metric ^^

That’s a rather devastating round there. Would be interesting to see what kind of difference in oomph and penetration it would get if it was hollowed out in the back and filled with lead, making it like a shotgun FMJ. Another round I've been thinking about is just having a hollow tube - but ofc that would be extremely difficult to prevent the gas seal just folding into the tube and mucking everything up. But it might be possible to make a 2-part round: the hollow tube 'front part', and a matching 'end cap' that supports the tube while being accelerated that can fall away after leaving the barrel. The wall thickness would have to be pretty hefty, and I’m not sure what kind of aerodynamics it’d get (both super- and sub-sonic). But if it worked, imagine the damage, cutting a tube through soft tissue.

Amazing how much damage it does with no expansion. You could drop a Rhino with it. As always, another excellent demo, Gents!
