This had to be one of the most excessive, wasteful, overdone, and bloated automobile ever made. And I just love it! What a remarkable automobile - yes, America, we once built actual cars that had two doors, a trunk, and a hood and we went down the road in complete comfort. You could see over these cars - through these cars at stoplights to see the lights changing, and you could ride in complete comfort with no road noise. Those days as as long gone as the era of the Dusenberg. Lou, your channel is such a treat - you are a passionate advocate for automobiles. You have such fun and you share it with us. I cannot thank you enough for all of the work you do bringing us this video historical archive of fine cars from the near beginning of automobilia to the present. You are a treasure to the automotive world and I thank you for your efforts!

I don't know if you ever had a chance to ride in the backseat of one of those eldorado's but let me tell you that was the most comfortable car I've ever been in my life I'm 59 years old now my dad's best friend bought one of those brand new 78 eldorado barrettes the white with the red and white interior sunroof fully loaded and we used to go places Union meetings and stuff my dad was a union delegate and I would ride in the backseat of that El Dorado and talk about cushy leather God I've never rode in something to smooth and soft as that car did? Those seats were so buttery soft it was unbelievable the leather was just like soft as a baby's butt as they say LOL

@loucostabile I might be incorrect Lou, I just Google it. I remember it had the 500 engine Google said the 1976 was the last year for the 500. That's more realistic too. Because I remember the father buying it a few years before I graduated. So that would have made it 1975 or 1976 model year 🤔

That's an interesting piece of history. I have a feeling it would have been tough fitting that type of system into the '79 Eldorado, since it was just wide enough for 3 people. The '71-'78 had so much extra width that the bulge in the center of the headliner wouldn't hit either the driver or passenger, who probably had more clearance above than they did with the standard coupe, though I suspect a center passenger would have had to duck. Glad to see this car so well preserved.

Hey Lou... great car. One rather picky little item that I didn't hear you didn't: the lights in the fenders were LEDs that also monitored the headlights as well as turn signals. The rear exterior lights also had similar monitoring with LEDs over the back seat in the ceiling which could be seen in the rear view mirror. In a way it was sort of gimmicky but my dad had a 78 Buick Electra that had these lights. The upside of these were that any lights that were not working the driver could see immediately before being stopped by a highway patrol citing the absence of clear, fully functioning lighting. I realize that as a prototype and the incredible mechanism to operate the T-top the rear LEDs might not have been used. These were also a monitoring device for what my mom would have called "Old men with a hat" that would leave the turn signals on for miles.
