Apathy to MTX is what is allowing it to happen, the few of us that are vocal get called toxic, and to Jagex, someone apathetic to MTX is the same as someone actively enjoying it and wanting it in the game. As much as I dislike mtx, I'm honestly done with grinding events from rs3 simply for the obscene rarity of the uber rare drops. In my over 5000 hours of playing I have never received a dye, mask, hat, or token similar to assassins walk in any event. I turned in hundreds of thousands of paper this year as well with no luck while my friend received two pink santa hats. I know it will piss off the ultra rare elitists, but these events need to be full rng with a real bad luck mitigator or I am just done as I'm sure many others are. I know that the other half of the community would say the opposite though.

That thing's price crashed on release because everyone could get it and it's not seen as valuable anymore. I get it, seeing a 1/10,000 drop chance for a pink santa hat is absurd. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning or injured by a toilet. I've never gotten a valuable rare either and I know I probably never will. That's how statistics works. I played the holiday event for the atmosphere and to get rewards from the store because that was all stuff I knew I could get. Never really played OSRS, did go through a stint of about 6 months since it came out.. but even my ironman on RS3 just got boring with nothing being done with the game. Only maybe 2 weeks ago did most of my IRL rs3 playing friends switch to OSRS, and we're all absolutely loving it. Some of us started fresh, some of us are mid-game.. The love that OSRS gets is clearly shown in the game, and I can now just see what RS3 is. A cash cow, like GTA5 is for Rockstar.

Came back because of the new total level cap (near 3060 currently), got the new hatchet and everything.. I've just lost the enjoyment, I think. May sound pretentious but skilling in RS3 feels less rewarding when players can just use MTX to boost their experience immediately. It is their right to transact, though. This is what happens when they decide to only have closed door discussions and surveys with MTX whales, rather than the bulk of the player base. I cancelled my sub when they increased the prices, because the game gets too expensive for me to afford, but there isn't even a trade off until that sub ends in July, because from the increase in membership, with it has come more MTX than ever before, not less. Jagex still proving they only do surveys for image, they do not give two shits about their player base, they still don't listen to them, it's all about portraying an image that they care while hiding the fact that if you don't have a gambling addiction that they can predate upon, they aren't interested in you.

I've been playing osrs and rs3 for a few years now. I'm currently doing a GIM account with a couple friends. Cause I like playing with my friends. Now it's been probably 6-8 months since I have logged in to the RS3 servers. The combination of dailies, log in stuff, MTX, and just lack of new content has ruined my interest in RS3. I barely even watch news for it anymore other than highlights. Going back to OSRS after being a RS3 player for so long has really ruined RS3 for me. It reminded me of what the game used to be before the budget and MTX really ate into the game. Plus, the RS3 team actively uses feedback against the players unlike the OSRS team. Although they do have their moments with trying to shoehorn certain updates into the game, like a lot of the "integrity" updates especially those based on PvP. Sure OSRS still has bonds, but bonds vs treasure hunter, buyable in-game content, and cosmetics is a lot more acceptable to me. I used to be the just don't buy it crowd, but IDK years of just having it shoved in my face made me realize how I dislike it. If you still enjoy RS3, good for you, but I feel like it is a truly dying game on life support kept alive by the whales or people who forget about their membership. And the saddest part is every year it's just a recolored cosmetic that a whale is going to buy because they have to own it. It's so low effort that I'm not even sure what they are going to do in like 3-4 years when they run out of colors to sell if the game is still alive lol.

I've long since come to hate treasure hunter. the popups when logging into my normal character are obnoxious, and the flood of exp items from it fundamentally bypass a game you're already paying a lot to access.

Explain how youre paying to access a f2p game? I have not paid for membership in many years (until recently) and have enjoyed the gsme because i understand how the game is supposed to be played. No is making anyone buy keys. If you do then you do. People have really lost their mind here... gaming really does rot peoples mind.

@@dreamboundrsps1111 You do realize someone paid for those bonds? there is nothing free to play about that. the membership value is even more expensive under those circumstances. Just because you can devote endless gp to funding your membership via bonds does not make it free. Someone paid for it. The membership credit didn't spawn magically from nothing. Yes, there is a free to play version of the game available and it has always been a trial. access to members features has ALWAYS required payment. Frankly, the free keys from just logging in and questing already provide that flood of experience items. It's been sufficient that it has largely replaced normal skilling for a large number of players. problematically they also bait the casino. The whole scheme is designed to get people to spend money. You and I can resist, but there are a lot of documented cased of people spending way more than they can afford on that sort of model. It is fundamentally predatory.
