Love all of these tips. The only modification I’d say is with the practice tests, don’t pay attention to the actual percentage (at least towards the exam date). Instead pay attention to the questions themselves and ask yourself on each question “Do I not just know why the right answer is right but do I know why each of the wrong answers is wrong?” Helps you study, guarantees you’re locking in the knowledge and allows you to avoid just memorizing practice test questions.

I agree with this -- I've been using practice tests more like this recently, and Im clearing exams even when I don't have near passing on the practice exams.

Haha, this is basically how I passed my current two CompTIA exams. A+,N+ 1. Take practice test to get baseline of knowledge 2. Binge video series 3. Small break of a couple days then Take another practice test to gauge improvements from baseline 4. Review weakest subjects and focus my study/review on my weakest subjects. Skip subjects/terms I already understand for optimal efficiency (review takes about 1 week) 5. Take another practice test and reassess scores. Rinse and repeat until consistently can score a satisfying average practice test score (if the average is going up after every new test you're on the right path). Take exam within that week and do final reviews.

I followed this and passed the AWS Certified Advanced Networking exam in 4 weeks! I am a network and security veteran, do not attempt this if you have no experience.

This is great. I like to read a digital book for the material as well, that way I have heard, read, and written the important stuff. Just like watching the videos on 2x speed, I'll skip book topics that I remember from the videos. Keep the content coming man, I think it will be a huge help to people figuring out their system and getting their first certs!

Failed the core1 A+ by 50 points. I will be taking it again before January. I plan to get me a tablet to read materials digitally that A+ book is hefty to lug around.

Thanks for the video, I'm currently pulling my eyelashes out trying to get through multilayer switching/VLANs + all their commands for my CCNA. It's so dull. Then I realised I have so much more other stuff I need to get through (learning python+linux, cloud certs). Time management is essential. I don't need to be A+ on everything.

Nope! C’s get degrees, and certs!! Important thing is to just get into roles where you’re learning organically. Then the certs are just a cherry on top, rather than your primary way of learning Good luck!

Honestly, if multilayer switching and vlans and commands after dull to you.. you may want to rethink which part of IT you're interested in.. unless you're just getting the cert to meet a requirement for career goals. if you're not going to be dealing with those topics in real life.. there sr other networking certs likely better for you.

Overall lots of great advice. I will note that studies have shown that people remember better if hand write (paper/digital) vs. typing and that's been my experience as well.

I've heard that too, and it makes sense - I've used physical books/notes in the past, and they work just fine. I just find digital resources lead me to spend more time studying, because they're always in my pocket.

5:05-5:15 I just recently started to implement the *playback speeds* via the ⚙️ icon myself usually going from 1.25 - 1.5x. And yes, it does take a little training, especially at the highest speeds. Not that hard though. Note: at times 1.25x doesn't get the job done in contrast to 1.75x+. Yet, anything in higher speeds up to 2x mainly depends on how long the content is & how the speaker speaks.

At first I didn't like this method, but then I thought about it, and I think I do. I wouldn't do it, personally, but he was very honest about what the objective is. This is about passing an exam, not learning skills. When I go after certifications, I want to learn the skills, so I study in short durations over the course of 6-8 weeks, which allows me to gain the skills, which will naturally lead to passing the exam. This is a fantastic method to just knock out certs quickly. Know what you're wanting to do. If you just need to get the cert, this is the method I would use.

😁- glad you came around!!! - Its just how I do it, not necessarly 'the right way' You make a good point Jeff!! I'm in the lucky position of using certs to validate my existing experience, rather than to gain net-new knowledge/experience. Im lucky to get the 'hands-on' knowledge in my day job, so certs just help me fill gaps and understand some theory. When its your goal to land an actual job doing this stuff... the cert is useless if you can't prove that you know what you're talking about.

To anyone new to IT, please don't do this. I have interviewed people who do this and you will be spotted by people in the industry with field experience. This method will likely turn you into a paper tiger. If you already have the skills and just filling in a check box for HR, this is a great method. Passing a test is TOTALLY different than understanding the material. It's essentially the difference between someone knowing that 2+2=4 and someone else being able to explain exactly why 2+2=4. Simple analogy but the principle applies. You might know the definition of stp and when to use it based on a multiple choice option. If i tell you a story about setting up switches and then let you decide what configurations come next, you'll likely fail. Only the people who truly grasp concepts and application are gonna get that right. Not intending for this to be a rant, i just want people to succeed. If you have a bunch of paper and no applicable real world skill, you're hurting yourself.

Was thinking of studying for the cloud practitioner but you’ve convinced me to go all out for the Architect associate first. By the way you said your source of practice exams was Google ad words???? Obviously not but do you have the correct link? Also notation works with the Apple Pencil?
