Altos de Cazucá (2600 mt above the sea level) is one of the most neglected neighborhoods in Soacha, an autonomous municipality of the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia, and part of the metropolitan area of Bogotá. Its community is one of the poorest and vulnerable of the area.
The clinic (hosted at the school "Dios Es Amor") aimed to help more than 200 elementary school students (screened), 150 examined and 89 spectacles dispensed in one day, in partnership with Grupo Ecopetrol foundation. 20 volunteers (between the GE foundation and OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation retail and wholesale employees) helped to carry out this clinic. Reading and comprehension tests were submitted to plan a survey, find evidence to highlight the relation between vision and productivity, and write a scientific article, in collaboration with University La Javeriana (Saint Xavier correspondent in the US).
