hello, thanks for the great video. For the first circle theorem (right angle at semicricle), can't you draw a tangent at one of the points on the base,( for eg B or C) and since the diameter is also a radius, there's a 90 degree angle at the tangent (tangent at radius circle theorem) and then you can use the alternate segment theorem to get 90 degrees at the semi circle.

@kashoot47824 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the vid mate, just wondering, is it a bit of a cop out to use another circle theorem to prove a circle theorem- like for proving the alt seg theorem, could you not draw a line straight down from the centre, say that’s 90 deg( tangent and a radius meet at 90) so the angle between the chord and the tangent is 90-x) deg. Then i guess you could form an isosceles triangle so so the angle at the centre is 180-2x, and the angle in the alt seg is 90-x(angle at centre=2x angle at circumference). Cus they’re both 90-x, they’re equal? This is way too long a comment lol but I was just wondering. Cheers anyway for the vid
@TheGCSEMathsTutor4 жыл бұрын
Thingy 101 If you watch the second half of my explanation on the alternate segment theorem you will see I do it in a different way using no previous circle theorems, it’s certainly not a ‘cop out’ as you could easily apply the algebraic proof for a previous theorem within that proof, but it’s a bit of a waste of time as we already know the proof to that theorem! 😁

Kierat Sahota Can’t see why not! Exam boards have put it out in mock papers and practice tests.. and it’s on the curriculum!! It’s a very unique question though and I see it more as an aid to understanding circle theorems than as stand alone questions, and with the increase in algebraic circle theorem questions, learning these proofs can be very beneficial to tackling those types of questions too 😁

If you want to prove ''opposite angles in a cyclic quadrilateral add to 180 degrees'' can you not just draw a diameter from the circumference and then say an angle in a semi circle is 90 therefore they are both 90 degrees and add to 180?

for the first one could you just say that angles on a straight line sum to 180 and then angle at the circumference is half the angle at the centre?
@noel.m71486 ай бұрын
No because there is no angle that meet that the centre and at the circumference via the same arc
@j6lkx5kt31 Жыл бұрын
i think u kind of overcomplicated the semi-circle one. you can just label the equal angles in the isosceles as x and y and then the right angle would also equal x and y, so 2x + 2y equals 180 therefore x + y equals 90 and is a right angle triangle. atleast thats how i did it

The first circle theorem proof you did was way over complicated bro you could have started with the two triangles being isosceles, so the angles at the base would be the same, and then say that the 3rd angle would be 180-2x and 180-2y then just put that into an equation that is equal to 180 and it shows that x+y = 90
