If our present generation can't fight the British 💂 now, generation to come will fight for Benin kingdom
@creativeambassador78714 жыл бұрын
Every Edo child born now or in the future will never be happy with the British 1897 invasion, that being said, I think it's time for us to move forward and stop dwelling in the past, it will only agitate anger and hate. The British saw something in Benin kingdom, our natural rubber, oil palm, bronze, and ivory and they came for it. Malaysia and Thailand saw the rubber and the oil palm. (Do we have the foresight of these resources today?) these developed nations like Malaysia and Thailand's major resources are rubber and oil palm with value addition, But we are still dwelling on the past. When the British looted our artifacts they didn't kill our craftsmen, so our knowledge remain, they didn't destroy our agro-industry, therefore we still can do better than Malaysia and Thailand. But today we have little or no cash crops left on the land. After many years I expect that our Benin moat will be reconstructed, beautify and turn into a tourist destination like the great china wall, Our rubber and palm estates tripled and given a value addition like the rest of the world are already doing. If we continue to dwell in the past we will be blinded to the future before us. We can do greater than our fathers did before the British and the Portuguese arrived. Let us revisit our past, rebuild our industry, strengthen our culture, build our race, teach our language, love ourselves, and build a greater Kingdom than we did before. May the efforts of our ancestors never go in vain. Oba gha tor here. Isee...

Let's own our past instead of being ashamed of it. There used to be human sacrifice back then, criminals or not. And even up until recent times. When an Oba dies, people are advised to be careful as Obas are usually buried with human heads. This practice isn't peculiar to Benin kingdom. It was practised by even the Vikings. So instead of denying it, own it up. I think the argument should be about what have the British government the authority to make laws in Benin kingdom.

The Binis did not take away the culture and tradition of smaller kingdoms. Even the nearest kingdoms still have their languages, cultures and traditions very intact till today. In fact, it was the policy of the Binis then that: "Let the Ikas speak Ika, and let the Udos speak Udo. Without your language, you are lost! We Binis today think, though, that our ancestors missed that opportunity to spread our language, culture and tradition far and wide just like the Yoruba and Hausa languages dominate today.

The journalist says when the artefacts got to the UK, Europe & USA so many questions were raised [ WAS IT POSSIBLE THAT A REMOTE KINGDOM........It's a rhetorical question ] ," there were doubts in the minds of British & other European people not the reporter's personal view, the Europeans were saying that the Portuguese taught the BINI bronze casters the craft. He went further to say that the artefacts were sold to museums and galleries in Europe & America. You see! They were in Benin Kingdom to make money out of Africans' labour . It's obvious that the Brits' were envious of Bini culture...The Journalist Is not condemning the BINI people, he is criticizing his fellow Europeans who are doubting the skills of Bini craftmen

I've seen it in British Museum. We ransacked your palace and set the city ablaze. We went there to secure our trade deals and set Oil River Protectorate and didn't give a da mn h oot about the "human sacrifice" Thousands of the objects looted, to pay for the costs of the Punitive Expedition. French colonial troops also ransacked Benin and so did Germans but my understanding is these countries are returning the loot. We auctioned them off instead in London as soon as and a lot of them soon became central pieces in the collection of many other museums.

The whiteman have an hunger to steal and appropriate everything that is not his because he was the last to emerge among the most ancient races and he emerged as a savage (not my word). Here is how ancient Egyptian view the world and human races several thousands of years ago, as interpreted by the European that deciphered the hieroglyphics. In a letter written by Chanpollin the Younger, who deciphered hieroglyphics in 1822, to his brother, Champollion-Figeac: "Right in the valley of Biban-el-Moluk, we admired ...... the astonishing freshness of the paintings and fine sculptures on several tombs. I had a copy of people presented on the bas-reliefs. At first I had thought, from copies .... printed in England, that these peoples of different races led by the god Horus holding his shepherd's staff, were indeed nations subject to the rule of the Pharaohs. A study of the legends informed me that this tableu has a more general meaning. It portrayed a third hour of the day ..... Thus we have before our eyes races of man known to the Egyptians and we learn at the same time the great geographical or ethnographical divisions established during that early epoch. Men led by Horus, the shepherd of the peoples, belong to four distinct families. The first, the one closest to the god, has a dark red colour, a well proportioned body, kind face, nose slightly aquiline, long braided hair, and is dressed in white. The legends designate this species as Rot-en-ne-Rome, the race of men par excellence, i.e., the Egyptians. There can be no uncertainty about the racial identity of the man who come next: he belongs to the Black race, designated under the general term Nahasi. The third present a very different aspect; his skin colour borders on yellow or tan; he has a strongly aquiline nose, thick black pointed beard, and wears a short garment of varied colors; these are called Namou. Finally, the last one is what we call flesh-colored, a white skin of the most delicate shade, a nose straight or slightly arched, blue eyes, blond or reddish beard, tall stature and very slender, clad in a hairy ox-skin, a veritable savage tattooed on various parts of his body; he is called Tamhou ..... The variations I observed fully convinced me that they had tried to represent here inhabitants of four corners of the earth, according to the Egyptian system, namely: 1. the inhabitants of Egypt ... 2. the inhabitants of Africa proper, Blacks. 3. Asians; finally (and I am ashamed to say so, since our race is the last and most savage in the series), Europeans who, in those remote epochs, frankly did not cut too fine a figure in the world. In this category, we must include a blonds and white-skinned people living not only in Europe but Asia as well, their starting point. This manner of viewing the tableau is all the more accurate because, on the other tombs, the same generic names reappear, always in the same order. We find Egyptians and Africans represented in the same way..... but the Namou (Asians) the Tanhou (Europeans) present significant and curious variants. Instead of Arab or the Jew, dressed simply and represented on one tomb, Asia's representatives on other tombs (those of Ramses II, etc) are three individuals, tanned complexion, aquiline nose, black eyes, and thick beard, but clad in rare splendor. In one, they are evidently Assyrians ... In the other, are Medes or early inhabitants of some parts of Persia... Thus, Asia was represented indiscriminately by any one of the peoples who inhabited it. The same is true of our good old ancestors, the Tamhou. Their attire is sometimes different; their heads are more or less hairy and adorned with various ornaments; their savage dress varies somewhat in form, but their white complexion, their eyes and beard all preserve the character of a race apart." So, if one understands where the whiteman is coming from, you will know why he does what he does, and where he going.
