THANK YOU for this video and the video on the Colosseum and Forum. I spent 10 days in Rome in June and throughly enjoyed walking tours of the Colosseum & Palatine Hill. Unfortunately, being over 70 and trying to recover from a total knee replacement 7 months prior, I just couldn't continue through the Forum and the guided tour, while led by absolute expert lady, was tedious at a rapid pace. I saw more 'ancient' stones beneath me than having time to look up and enjoy the history. As a history professor and addict having read innumerable books about the Caesars and the Empire, your videos filled a great blank spot for me.

Can you imagine how powerful the Roman Emperor was. Look at the size of that palace. Imagine it in its full glory, many stories, cover with marble all over, beautiful paintings all over, statues, astonishing fontains, lavish fabrics, gold blinging in every single decoration . Everything in a huge proportion and that top view of the glorius Roman Forum, with its monumenntal basilicas, temples, markets, public buildings, archs, all great, fancy and full of richness. I can imagine myself as the emperor in that place waking out of my gorgeous and magnificent room into that terrace, contemplating the view of "my" Rome, the most important and glorius city in the world and thinking to myself "how mighty am I". That's probably why they consider themselves gods. Could it be any different?

I was in Rome a few years ago but I couldn’t visit the most part of what you have shown here because I have to use a wheelchair to walk long distances and all those stairs make it harder. This is so great. Last year, we took a tour of the Colosseum and Forum, but we didn't go through the Palatine Hill palaces area. We made our way from the Colosseum up to the terrace overlooking the Forum and then we went down into the Forum, which was so cool. So, you've given me an entire part of the Hill that I didn't get a chance to see. Thanks so much. I hope to go back again some day.

Wow i've never seen this, i absolutely love it. Realizing that the Roman civilization had evolved brick architecture to more sophisticated design than anything we do today. Those multi level, highly customized palace is marvelous even as a ruin. It must have been amazing even in the first few centuries. I wonder who lived there after the fall of roman civilization. between 2nd and 10th century must have been occupied by all kind of unknown decadent and derelict little rulers whose name never made it to us. There surely is still some undiscovered treasure room that never got discovered. But these fine flat brick collossal architecture is more beautiful than anything i have seen. If i could change society, i'd want us to built houses like this. Yeah i can see all my grammar mistake but i'm going to leave them. Nobody is supposed to be perfect in their 3rd tongue.

My goal in Rome 1974 was to see the Colloseum; Forum and the Vatican. When I saw the depth/length of the Forum, I knew I would be out of time for that area. Did not know about Palatine Hill, and wow, what an impression you have given with this tour! Thanks. I doubt I will ever get back again. A coworker told me of the Pantheon before my trip. Hey, so I just walked more of Rome this last weekend I wandered through part of Domus Aurea. It is open but I just walked the lower part near the road going past the Colosseum. I wasn't too impressed though. It just seemed unkept and several ruins had fences around them. I videoed the walk but like I said, I didn't walk too much of it.

ProWalks Yeah from everything I’ve read and seen, it’s almost entirely underground as it was stripped and filled in by Vespasian and his successors after Nero’s death. The Colosseum and Baths of Trajan were built on top of it. Parts of it not currently being excavated have been open to public, but not sure if they still are. Would be cool to video though, if they let you. It’s supposed to be very well preserved having been buried for so long!

Grazie mille. Another great walk. I was pleased to see the lower levels of the palace have been opened. When I was last in Rome they were closed. Pity the Houses of Augustus and Livia were closed again. The frescoes in Augustus library are magnifico. I would always vist the Palatine early in the morning before the tour buses arrived. Deserted. it was the most bellissima walk in Roma.

To do a walk like this I suggest one should be fit and healthy. I have been to the Palatine twice before many years ago and only had time to walk part of it. If I went today I don't think I could manage even what I did then due health issues. Also, make the Palatine your main focus of the day, visit the Colosseum and Fori another day. So much of ancient Rome is missing on this reality tour. Roof tops, walls, porches all missing. Time, vandalism, erosion has taken its toll on this once magnificent city. Good to the see the site of the Circus Maximus which predates many of the structures shown on this video tour. Plans of it were laid down early in the 6th century BC by one of its king's Tarquin Priscus. Senators were allowed to build wooden stands on the site to watch horses, athletic events etc. Over time it evolved into a gigantic marble structure the likes of which was never seen previously in empires of the past.
