I've just recently started playing DS2, have about 7 hours played. I'm honestly really disappointed man. Even once you get enough agility and figure out the dodge roll bullshit the game still feels extremely jank. It's all so slow and boring. Couple that with _relentless_ enemy spam and this game's version of the hollowing mechanic and you have a lot of sections that just aren't fun to play.

Hey, at least it isn't Elden Ring. No, seriously, if you seriously disect Elden Ring you'll find that it has all the problems of DS2 and then a bunch more, and DS2 you have to intricately learn how the game works to properly dodge, so it'll take longer to dodge than others. Meanwhile Elden Ring and its "whole body is hitbox" bullshit. I would love to love Elden Ring, but it just fell off on gameplay. Lore's good, graphics are good, but who the fuck cares about the graphics when the game feels like frustrated molases?

I really enjoyed ds 2 tho, some things were bullshit like the enemies able to hit you thru walls, but i still enjoyed it. I used ring of binding the whole game to slow down the hollow effect

i was always ignoring Souls games till the day i played Elden Ring !!! after i finished it i immediately started digging in the past, so i started with DS3 and oh boi it even compete with my love to ER !! finished it with both DLCs and i can confirm DS3 quality is much better than ER (am not talking about the graphic, although some areas in DS3 graphically more immersive combined with the sfx like catacombs of carthus !), also fighting bosses in DS3 is more interesting ! ... then i moved to DS1 i thought i can't play it because it's just old and outdated ! i used some visual mods to help me keep my mood up and wow i couldn't leave it till i finished it today ! DS1 world and how it connects to each other and how the game and your tools progress like (kindle, fast travels, and how weapons upgrade need special blacksmith with unique skills and how to look for them ) is just outstanding ! and why am here ? lol i just started DS2 today and wtf !! i really felt like i stared some general rpg game that nothing to do with souls games !! i stopped it after around 20 mnts everything feels odd! ... idk if i can give it another chance or i will move to the last game in my list (bloodborne) ... is DS2 from FROMESOFTWARE ? why i feel that its not !

I've yet to know what people mean with build variety in Ds2 considering thr DLC is nearly impossible to finish playing as a caster since bosses take immense decreased damage from spells. As if my miracles weren't terrible already

Same goes for ds1 and 3 unfortunately While casting is op as fuck in base game ds1 in the dlc the bosses are resistant And casting sucks in general in 3

@@RobertEdwinHouse9 eh; Darksouls 2 made me realize just how the first one is just clunky as shit. going from a free flowing game, then going back to Darksouls 1, it took me a long time to get back into the sway of things in 1, and it still didn't feel as great as the first time I played 1. and that says alot.

I heared we all played Darksouls 2 the wrong way. You should never use lock-on, then the gameplay clicks. At least that's what I've been told.

This is true, DS2 lock-on sucks since it slows down movement but won't guide your attacks which still go in direction of travel unlike other DS games. The most effective way to fight is by just running full speed circling enemies without lockon since they can't really react to it, and only ever using lockon when already positioned to do your attack and then unlocking after you are done with your attack and moving again.

@@therealgooseman2358 it sucks since it slows you down significantly, loses lock and the camera freaks out when enemies have any verticality and it doesn't guide your melee attacks if you are moving in a direction which isn't straight towards the enemy (which makes it worse than every other Souls camera). Its only real good use is for ranged weapons or snapping to enemies then unlocking but its pretty inferior to unlocked combat in most situations (especially since DS2 loves to throw ganks at you).

My first souls game was Dark Souls 3, after that came Dark Souls 1, when I was about to start Dark Souls 2 I was a bit worried because I never saw a single frame from the game before but I was like alright… maybe the story isn’t good enough for the community to deal with it years later or maybe there aren’t any memorable boss fights… but that shitstorm what this game launched on me in one dose during the first 6 hours of my gameplay, I just wasn’t prepared for that 😂 I’m not saying that I hate game, I’m just sad about it, the way how it breaks the line of quality between 1 and 3 is even more frustrating than the weird animations and hitboxes.

Btw after putting off the hype and actually replaying each of them, DS2 at its current state is better than Elden Ring to me. At least i know i will still enjoy the heck out of it during the map /boss revisit compare to Elden Ring's open world which I'd 100% skip. Always looking forward to DS2 dlc part too cuz Ik the map gonna be interesting to explore and bosses gonna be a treat to fight. Elden Ring.. idk man, if I use any form of spirit ash or ash of war/ spells it'd break the game and make it 0 challenge, but then what's the point of releasing so many ash of wars and 100+ spells on top of so many variation of spirit summons if we're not intended to use them to have a reasonable challenge?

I don't know the terms, it's something when the lore/mechanic actually cool but kinda suck when implemented in gameplay, just like Nanosuit can be damaged by puny 4mm ammo. It's already stated by Saulden: "In Drangleic, the flow of time is convoluted.. Things shift and waver, twist and turn..." So maybe the out of world level design cause by this? Also from the beginning you dropped from ocean-like-body-of-water into a hole that lead to a shore. So maybe the concept of geography kinda doesn't work in Drangleic? It's just a theory don't take it seriously, but still doesn't do much to cover careless world design. I love DS2 though, it's the first souls game that forced me to git gud since I didn't know adaptability mechanic exist back then, so I really strip all my armor to pursue highest mobility and roll speed

DS2 really had some design decisions to intentionally piss players off which turned me off of it the first time I played. The darklurker run sucks the worst since you had to use 1 humanity each time but Blue Smelter Demon and Sir Alonne are also annoying since those enemies were positioned to really punish people trying to run past. I also really hated how enemies were added immediately after boss fights just before bonfires, not really a problem once you are comfortable with map layout and game mechanics but aggravating for no real reason.

@@RobertEdwinHouse9 no s until you level adp was the dumbest design decision. Leveling my adp until I had agl of 105 which is DS3 type rolling made the game 1000x better. Actually had a lot of fun with the game once I had good dodge rolls, baited out enemies with bows and got good at fighting without lock on, but its still very hard to recommend a game that tries so hard to piss you off lol. Run to ruin sentinels was infuriating though, only good thing was it taught me to break gank squads off to 1-3 enemies at a time and kill them away from the group which helped in Iron Keep and the DLC areas which had some truly BS gank fights otherwise. Just thinking about it is getting me heated lol.

No fog wall s is great for invaders trying to catch up to a fleeing host. I loved that change. Besides, you can still stack poise, and almost never get knocked out of entering Fog. The run to Ruin Sentinels is easy as piss. After opening the door to the swordsman ambush, run straight, drop down to stairs. Down. Run to ladder. Up. Fog is right there. Easy. You should know by now that boss runs have ways to get there without fighting.

Hmm. I’m very sad people feel that way towards dark souls 2. I honestly think they completely lived up to the spirit of dark souls 1. Ds1 is the best game ever created not because of it’s graphics or combat or consistency, but because of the willingness to take risks and break well established rules in gaming to serve the overall story and experience. I can sum it up with this example: when they subtly hint at how the world is unraveling and twisting in unnatural ways by having an elevator at the too of a huge tower that leads you into a lava land level you dismiss it as lazy development but when ds3 does the same thing in a much more obvious, fan servicy and almost condescending way you endlessly praise it. Also when they take out the tight level design in favour of more open and baron levels to emphasise even more the feeling that the world here is not created for you, you call it quantity over quality (which it is but you say it as if it’s an inherently bad thing or as if it isn’t like that for a very good reason). Dark souls 2 has such stupendously huge balls and takes so many risks that it doesn’t even matter if they work out or not. The design philosophy behind it alone is worthy of admiration and respect. If you really think ds2 is irrelevant now that elden ring came out that tells me you don’t really undersrand it, you just think you do. And it also tells me I am a lot smarter than you and very much a superior person in every way (including in bed).

Just started playing DS2, it's controls are shit, my character moves like a potato, the enemy layout is shit, traps scattered everywhere just for the sake of having traps. Enemies have infinite aggro distance. Very questionable hitbox. Every action my character does is slow as fuck. Really shit overall.

I think it is still a worthy game. Storywise I think it is the best of the trilogy. It explained the ending of the first part, showed that the people wanted to get rid of the curse (which they dropped in DS3) and added nice characters which made sense (unlike DS3, I am looking at you Yorshka) and gave a good bridge for the third entry (which they failed storywise imho). But yeah, they promised a bit too much. I think if the darkness effects would have been implemented less people would have disliked it.
