Proxxon tools are of course available in Germany, but also in America, where I review tools more often, but being here, the cost is quite a bit less. This is just an initial impression, but it is of value as I have a lot of experience using tools, and surprisingly enough, reviewing them has taught me more about them then using them alone!
DE Nichols, me, as always is here to teach you to be better about fixing your car, diagnosing it, and even upgrading it. Sometimes motorcycles! Wahoo!
This 3/8" Proxxon tool set is not made in Germany, but made as tools that'll get the job done. Usually, in America, I find, just get it done, means it's cheap and pro's won't find value in it, but these are a fair shake and step up from that. The price reflects this a little in Germany and fairly a lot more in America.
I only am likely to buy these in 3/8", but if I need it and I'm blown away, I just may get more. As a pro, it is hard to deal with a warranty that's shorter. Mostly shorter because I'm only in Germany for so long. I can warranty them for 2 years in Germany and maybe more, because they are kind and love their customers. First impressions of Toom, yes, but good ones, especially with the language barrier which I cross as much as I can and it goes a long ways to how Germans react to me. I always have such good reactions from them. :)
This is a NO SKIP SET!

My oldest Proxxon ratchet set is now 30 years old. I purchased it for maintenance and repairs on my motorcycle and never regretted it. Back in the day Proxxon used to have mirror polish chrome and embossed markings. Today their tools are made in Taiwan, like Wera and many others but still on an excellent level.

The T handle/extension is to be used as a small breaker bar so you don't stress your ratchet unnecessarily.
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado Жыл бұрын
Okay. Cool. Had that thought at some point, but since I have breaker bars I just use those if it's a tough nut. That tool is pretty short to increase leverage. It was fun to notice that something like this was in a lot of tool sets for sale in Germany.

Here’s a tip turn the plastic inlay upside down, and fill it with expanding foam. You know the kind, you use for insulation around windows and whatnot. It doesn’t add weight but a whole lot of strength and integrity to the inlay. It will last forever this way and won’t become bridle and break.

That's a great idea! Thanks! Now that I'm back in the states, I use my snap on more, but buying some tools while in Germany was better than shipping a lot of weight over. Plus, it let me explore tools you don't really see in the states. Still. Love this little set. Does a lot in a little space. I want it to last. 😁👍

Last I saw this comment I hesitated answering because I haven't been using these as much as I did in the first year I got them. I'm back in America and back to my primary tools. Now and again I do grab this set and just because I want to know if it can? I'm too hard on them and they still work the same. Very tough! (Love them so I don't want to torture what I bought in another country anymore, lol.)

Are you satisfied with the Proxxon socket wrenches 3/8" and how is their quality?
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado Жыл бұрын
I'd rate the quality as tough. Their are finer ratchets you can buy, but a lot of them aren't also tough. These tools are built to take some abuse. I'd use it on tough things, but I wouldn't want it as much in tight situations where you need finesse and speed. Takes more space to operate the ratcheting on this. However if you can't use something longer and really have to crank on this ratchet, I don't see it breaking. Do you see why the simplest explanation is that I rate it tough?
@DENicholsAutoBravado
@DENicholsAutoBravado Жыл бұрын
That was me only talking about the ratchet. The sockets are tough too. You know how good sockets don't grab the edges of a hex, they grab the flats instead so you don't round fasteners off? These go deeper on the flats than most sockets. More surface area without actually ending up using the corners.

Dangerious Entertaining Nichols :-D Now that's a nice socket set, hopefully it is german and not a foreign rebrand. Looks strong and a real metal case that won't fall apart like the plastic rubbish. Can you tell i don't like plastic lol. I'm sure you will give that socket set some hell and see how it copes. The rubber in the spark plug sockets will wear and you won't have to use a crowbar to get the plug out lol. A long time ago my frend wanted the spark plugs changed in his small peugeot car, we had to buy a new socket, not the old standard!!. It was the same small sparkplug socket in your new kit. Don't i waffle lol.

I've had mine for almost a year now and I reached for it instead of my Snap On when I did a remote repair the other day. Don't get me wrong my Snap On ratchet is amazing, but this Proxxon is super tough and since I wasn't in my own shop I didn't want to risk losing the Snap On. I didn't even take my Snap On to Europe. Everyday work in the shop? Snap On is so good...but for the price you get what, 1/8 the tools? I own very few. Since this review I did buy more Proxxon. I could get 2.5 no skips sets of Proxxon before competing with the price of 1 SnapOn ratchet. The next Proxxon set I got had tons of torque bits and lengths and different weird stuff that I don't need much in America but in Germany you have to have it since those tools, hexes, torx, and other weird odds and ends are needed for work on German cars.

@@DENicholsAutoBravado thnx for your replay, I am in London and as well here snap-on is leading, however quality is down and price way too expensive. I've never met a 8mm, 20, or 23mm nut or bolt. Skips like this to me are just less wasted space. I have tons of sets with never used 9mm. What good does that do me? What do you do that you need those sizes? Just curious.
@Dan-xk8qg

For example 9mm socket using for brake calipers all the time, 20mm for example when servicing bike front suspension, well if you are just weekend DIY working around house then probably you are fine with 10, 13, 15 and maybe 17mm sockets The point is that in review is said that only missing 23mm socket no skipps which clearly not the case.

After Germany left, Russia took them 48 years later and those atrocities shook some of their grandmas to tell stories whenever I paid a visit. Hmm. Because of the low cost? Yeah. Quite a bit better. China has what my college teacher wrote a paper on describing brain drain. The best and brightest keep leaving China. Taiwan steals their best engineers too. The world gets 80% of the most highly educated out of China at a low point...it is often much higher. Take some understanding that my college professor taught me this in 2003....Chinas regime isn't better so if they can leave I'm sure they keep trying. I've met some of them over the last 17 years since that class directly and also via KZbin for elite running from China to not get killed for their ideas. Long story short. These tools are made in Taiwan and cost 120% more in USA. Maybe it's because there's no direct from Taiwan on them and European shipping and import fees are getting paid.
