I love my Proxxon DB250 Lathe I've made over a hundred pens on mine among other projects. Very well made machine.

Hey, what mandrels do you use for the DB 250?

Love it. Quick question. Do you think I could work a 2.36 inch diameter round piece of wood on this machine? Round. Not square. I'm thinking square would def. be too big and I'm thinking the machine is underpowered for that big of a work piece. But 2.36 inches round? If I only have to make a couple grooves n stuff? Thanks!

I have not been able to turn pens on the Proxxon lathe because no one, including Proxxon, makes a pen mandrel that will fit this lathe. I now use the Nova Comet II made by Teknatool to make pens and many other items.

Mandrels are available from many suppliers in the US or the UK. Just clamp it in your three jaw chuck. Some have an adjustable end. Just take this off and fit in the collet chuck. There is no need for a special Proxxon device.

brian chislett Do you think that i can mount a taper 1MT mandrel on the 3 jaws chuck without any issues ? I have difficulty to find a proxxon compatible.

Don't waste your money. I had 2 of these and they both broke within weeks. The variable speed controls went bad and they only worked on full speed. Left them a crappy review on Amazon.co.uk.

Hello Jay, I had better luck with mine. I used it to make a variety of small items, including micro Christmas trees from various pieces of exotic wood. I gave it to my brother after I got the larger lathe. He now uses it to make small wooden spoons! He turns the overall shape then he hand carves the scoop portion using a Dremel. They are beautiful!!

@@bccie1pres Perhaps they made a bad batch. I was using them for ring making but I'm moving over to a mains drill and bench clamp.

Jay Rodgers, The Nova 2 made by Teknatool is a very versatile bench top lathe with a 12 inch diameter by 16 inch length capacity and they make a large variety of chucks. I have used it to make everything from an 11 inch cap for a wooden mushroom and a 10 inch diameter acorn to a pen with a 9 mm diameter and micro Christmas trees with a 5/8 inch diameter base to Cups and small to medium size bowls. I suggest you not limit yourself at this point. The versatility of a quality bench top lathe has surprised me and given me many more opportunities to make stuff than I ever thought possible when I first bought this lathe. Happy turning sir!

@@bccie1pres Thanks but I don't really have anywhere I'd put it. That's what I liked about the Proxxon, small enough to slide out the way and dig out for a quick bit of ring making in the evening. Only weighed a couple of kg. The garden shed has seen better days, perhaps I'll replace it this year and set myself a small workshop.

Jay Roger's, yhat makes sense. Consider this, I bought a kit from a home improvement store near me for a 10 foot by 10 foot by 10 foot tall shed. I paid a local handyman to make a concrete base. It has 2 doors for easy access and overhead storage. Building a work bench along 3 walls with cabinets under and tool racks above could give you a well organized work and project space. There are some small woodshop guys on youtube that have some really good ideas. Have a great day and stay healthy sir!
