Proxxon PD 250/E Lathe Tailstock Maintenance (Cleaning & Adjusting)

I think my tailstock is on the loose, so it’s time to take it apart …

I’m using my Proxxon PD 250/E lathe for one and a half years now (link below). And I really did put it through its paces, at one time even creating a little smoke (link below). So it’s no surprise that my tailstock is in need of some TLC.
First we slide the tailstock off the ways and take it apart. After some cleaning we slide it back on and put it back together (after lubricating it of course - which I almost forgot). Finally we adjust the play of the barrel.

Well done! Every machine needs to be properly maintained to last a long time.

Yup! Especially rough cleaning in between operations and some detailed cleaning (including wiping down all the ways and lead screws with alcohol and re-lubricating them) before putting the thing away most important.

The nut at the front under the tailstock probably needs tightening up a bit to stop the slack.

Very good and necessary maintenance. I'll start working on my PD right away. Thanks! Wouldn't grease be applied to the sliding components during reassembly to minimize play?

Well, the manual states to just use oil on that machine. But I think you are right, grease would have been an option.

Hi, is it possible for you to measure the centering diameter on the back of the proxxon lathe chuck and the diameter of the mounting hole circle and which size screws are used for mounting the chuck? That would be really great! I am looking for a chuck for my new Emco lathe. The proxxon chuck looks similar but proxxon don't want to tell me the dimensions to check if it fits... Thank you very much in advance!

The diameter for the mounting hole circle is 29mm (3 hole pattern for 3 jaw chuck), respectively, 34mm (4 hole pattern for 4 jaw chuck): suter-meggen.ch/zubehoer/proxxon/sortiment/ersatzteilblaetter/24407%20%20Drehfutter,%2024407,%2024408,%2024410,%2024034,%2024036%2020150204p.pdf The bolts are M5 I believe.
