I believe that UK bands at the time had a more modern sound than their US counterparts. My dad Sam used to dance to bands like this in the late 1920s to the 30s.

I asked my Bubbie over the phone, "do you remember that song "I may be wrong" by Nicholas"... And she immediately said "yes!", Excitedly (which was a joy to hear) And then even more joyously We sang the song together "I may be wrong but..... I think you're wonderful.... I may be wrong but...." And she sang, "I think you're grand." I'm not sure if that's the lyric or if it's only "swell" but still all the other words (that she sang) were right. I'm so happy and grateful that there's songs like this I can hear That are not only great, and make me think my own psychedelic thoughts But I can also use it to share wonderful memories with my grandmother And remind her of past joys that she hasn't thought of in decades. To do that is one of the greatest things in life.

Thank you for your comment, although, I must confess that despite being very literary, fully aware of the protocols and principles of grammar, understanding of the delicacy of context, and completely versed in the rules, styles, habits, techniques, and provincialisms (local color, patois, vernacular, and idiomatic idiosyncrasies) of syntax and punctuation, I nevertheless do not understand the meaning of the ellipsis in your sentence.
@Prozoot4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewsiegel2950 ....hey, I'd hate to meet you in a dark alley, and be assaulted with context and patois. That disturbing ellipsiation is my own personal suggestion of a continuation of your thoughts. It is patented, so don't let me find you borrowing it!

Sensational British dance bands of the 30s! Near peerless! However, even though Jack Hylton here was in that class, for me the best of them all was Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans. Truly sweet sounds and listenable at any time, anywhere.

Sensational! Overall, my favorite has to be "I May Be Wrong," because this is such a spiffy treatment of one of my favorite tunes, but the arrangement and solos on "She's Such A Comfort To Me," too, are superb.

@spencersmith27986 жыл бұрын
So, what’s not to like about this combination? Jack Hylton and Sam Browne made some timeless records together. Their treatment of Oscar Levant’s “My Dream Memory” is without doubt the best recording of that classic. Hylton’s late ‘20s and early ‘30s Band was fantastic and Browne rates with Al Bowlly any day in my book!
@ianblakesley33495 жыл бұрын
I agree totally! Often I have thought that Sam Browne had that edge on Al Bowlly. I agree that the Hylton band of the pre-Decca years was sparkling.
@petertaylor36002 жыл бұрын
No, not really. He was a top band singer in his day, as far as I'm concerned, but Al Bowlly had more than that. Not just singing lyrics, learned off. An emotional quality that many others couldn't get. And it is important in selling a song.
@petertaylor3600 Жыл бұрын
Perfect as it is. Somehow, a perfect reproduction would be out of place with a recording made in Nineteen Twenty Nine. Hylton and his musos could play underwater and I'd love the sound.
