The good people at PRS were kind enough to send me a couple of their guitars to try, while I decide which PRS guitar to get.
I will be choosing between the Prs custom 24 and the Prs "Paul's Guitar". They are both great guitars but I need to pick the one that works best for me.
I love the full tone of Paul's guitar and you can split the two humbuckers for a great single coil sound, as well. However, the neck is a little bit on the wider side for me.
The custom 24 on the other side feels much more familiar and has a floating bridge.
They are both great guitars, but for now, I'm liking the custom 24 more.

Enjoyed the video, David. My custom 24 and my '57 strat has all my tone bases covered. I do find having to 'work harder' using the strat. The PRS is so easy to play though.....And of course they're beautiful looking instruments too! Especially in fire red burst.... ;)

I love my Custom 24 and love the Charcoal Cherry Burst colour of the one you have. That Custom 24 sounds great too. It may not have the individual coil splits (at least not your one but they do a Custom 24-08 that can) but you do get a couple more options than a typical double Humbucker with the 5 way blade - you get Bridge Humbucker, neck split or both split. Paul's Guitar is great and the new TCI Pick Ups sound amazing. The Split coils are very Single Coil like which is different to the thinning sound split/tapped humbuckers usually sound like. For me, the 594 was more to my taste. I love the Vintage tone that the 58/15 LT's offer and that too can have individually split humbuckers. I also have a Hollowbody ii with a Piezo and the 58/15 LT's. This a stunning and incredible instrument as well as a 509 too which is very versatile with its 5 single coil PU's arranged in a HSH configuration. I love my PRS guitars and looking to add to the 4 I have. I really hope you enjoy playing yours as I do mine and that Custom 24 PRS sent you looks and sounds amazing!!

Cool video and thank you for your opinion on this guitars. I have both :) and they are both a dream to play and each of them make sense as a individual (in my eyes). Many years i was not interessted in PRS til i tryed one, than an other and i have to say if somebody is honest and not dogmatic has to confess how great they are to play, how fine they sound and a wonderfull look they have. My Paul's has the same color (grey/red) as your custom, stunnig.... . But of course everybody can be happy with any guitar they like.

Nice comparison. I prefer the custom 24 in this video. After a ton of research I think I’m going to get a custom 22 with 80/15 pickups.The pickups are farther apart on the 22. It gives a bit more depth to the tone IMO. Also heard that they feel super comfortable to play.. Hope “they’re” right! 4000$ is a lot of money

The Blue one has a gorgeous top on it. I am thinking you pick the Red one because of your playing style. I got a 30th anniversary. Custom 24. I was darker than I thought it appeared online. Now onstage with lights hitting it would bring out the red better. I'm sure I'll get another one soon.

I have a CE 24 a core 24 and and 245. If you like the tele strat sound then the CE is better choice. I thought it would sound like my core but had completely different tone...much brighter and snappier... like tele or strat. My core 24 sounds more like my 245... but with coil tapping too...all great guitars depending on style of music and song you are playing. I've never played Paul's guitar. Nice video!

So, from all the reviews and videos ive seen, its seems like people like the custom 24 over the pauls guitar, even though its the pricier of the two. and personal from what this guy says about the neck feel, and that it has a whammy bar while the paul doesnt, i am leaning towards the custom myself. it just seems to be a better guitar with better features. does the pauls guitar even have a coil split?

Ok this literally just showed up a year after you did this video. Cherry charcoal is my favorite. Can’t play the PRS guitars sadly due to a neck /muscle issue. Very frustrating. They’re a bit big for me. But I play a similar guitar Brian Moore guitars that only sell direct now so few know of them now. The ones I have - have beautiful tops too. Smaller, curved for comfort and Seymour Duncan’s whatever set up you choose. I prefer hbs. But I have a few that are hsh ones hh chameleon color with copper, blue, teal green and purple. Used but mint. The other two tobacco sunburst curly top and one bengal stripe. It came with piezo in the bridge although I never use them. Some come with usb snd synth inputs. No need for that either but that idea was stolen from them and they finally got it back. Idk the details. But still enjoy watching others play them. Continuing to watch now. Minor thing that I prefer is the 3 way switch myself. And I like thinner or medium neck. Maybe one day I can get better and get one. Doubtful but 🤷🏻‍♂️ from what I researched and pattern thin seems to be fairly thinner than most and I’m assuming Mark Tremonti’s signature guitar would have a thinner neck.
@Rob-qr2kn

@kcussrebutuemos, never played the tremonti. I have an SE FLOYD and a Dusty Waring model and both have thin necks and are to die for. I had a prs 509, but sold it as it had a pattern regular neck which I hate. Pattern thin or wide thin for me. I just bought this week a prs 24-08 violet burst with a pattern thin neck and I have not put it down yet. Well aside from sleeping and washing my @ss i mean.

I've had an SE custom 24, which played great but looked terrible. It had a Burl wood top, and it was all pitted and Orange peeled, and they wouldnt return it as it was a "subjective" issue. I sold it and now I'm looking at a core model. That charcoal cherry burst is calling my name, but the blue is beautiful too.

The Custom 24, definitely. I'll edit for David here - Any non-SE PRS is setup incredibly well... I've gone through 7 SE models that came off the wall at my local store playing like a Starcaster from Costco at Christmas ... Since I don't have the discretionary funds (or spousal approval) for a USA-made PRS, I've passed - for now.

@@DavidYarber The issue isn't in not being able to get an SE setup properly - I could do that myself, but rather that the PRS SE's are not getting the same level of love in MD before they are shipped that the USA-made "Paul Reed Smith" models are receiving. That's where my comment stems from.

But for my style I okay PRS more but it's not better just has different tone that fits my music style. The only thing I may like better about the custom 24 is that the neck is easier to play for my hands...plus at least both of my PRS have better intonation and stay in tune significantly more than my Les Paul... which when I'm gigging is extremely important especially when playing lead them switching to rythym. My Gibson goes out of tune easier when doing this... but my Gibson sounds really great for sure...
