It’s not a one or the other thing for me? I play Gibson LP’s and ESP Ltd ec and they’re both sweet. Also play a fender bullet! Gibson, Fender, PRS and the rest all make good guitars. Period.

I had two Gibson LP, then I got a PRS Custom 24, but just sold one of the gibson to get another PRS, a McCarty 594, which is the more gibson guitar PRS ever made. But without tuning issues and fragile neck/headstock construction. To some applications, Gibson sounds slightly better, but the comfort, the playability and the reliability of the PRS overcome this subtle tone difference.

3:06 He's not exaggerating. I've had an SE singlecut for 15 years. Over those years I've brought home some really nice guitars (some of them triple the cost) and none of them have managed to dethrone my daily player SE. I don't know if they still make them like that but if they do, they're an absolute steal at that price.

Might seem like sacrilegious but I took scotch brite like sandpaper to the neck of my Custom 24 and made it satin finish. I was annoyed by the gloss finish on the neck that always became sticky and such. At first I was hesitant to "destroy" the guitar but my PRS is a workhorse and now the neck plays super smooth.

my first guitar I got as a hand me down, an old battered down $50 stedman pro. Never stayed in tune for more than 2 songs and has constant issues with the pickups not working, nevertheless I played it everyday for 2 years. My next guitar was a squier tele and it blew me away by how reliable it was, how simple it was to use, how comfortable my hands felt on it, etc. It's been 3 years into my guitar journey and now I'm saving up for a prs XD

To all the Schecter, LTD, Variax, Chapman Guitars fans.... If you get a PRS SE built in Korea, it was built under the same roof as the previous brands named. I have 1 Schecter, 2 SEs, 1 S2 SC Semi hollow, 1 Core CU24. All are great, I just like stripping the SE guts to put the American pickups in it. Keep the SE G&B pickups for spare parts that I have had to use as such. Just swapped out pups in the S2 SC Semi Hollow with 57/08 pups, it's now a les paul killer.

I actually tried a large number of PRS guitars in 2 different shops. I tried mainly some SE Custom 24's and the USA made Custom 24's. With the SE versions I had 2 guitars that stood out from the others I tried. I then tried 4 of the USA versions and for the life of me I could not hear or feel a difference between those 4 guitars. It was like playing the same guitar. Basically those 4 USA guitars were just crazy consistent. Now I have heard people tell me that these guitars just don't have any.. . What's the word? Hmm... Mojo I guess, when it whispers to you, "buy me". I can relate to that, I think it's down to the fact that they are just too consistent. Any how, for me I had one SE Custom 24 Special Edition Exotic Wood (Zebrawood) that was screaming at me to buy it. For me the Korean version of the 15/85 PUPS had the edge for distortion and gain while the USA had the advantage with the clean (I never play clean lol). Feel, playability looks the USA version had it, but it was damn close. Yes. all in all the USA version was better, just about. But not over £2800 better. I bought the SE, looks and sounds great.

They’re both very good, honestly. I own several USA PRSs but I work on guitars for a living so I’ve seen SE models right on up to private stocks. Anyone who sees this…if you own an SE model, don’t feel like you’re playing a whack guitar AT ALL. Those guitars are professional grade…they stay in tune, most of them sound phenomenal and I’ve even played several SE 24s that rival my core CU24 in terms of playability. A core model is a legacy instrument, yes, but an SE is nothing to feel “lesser” about owning. Take comments like this one with a grain of salt, otherwise it’ll get in your head that you don’t have a “serious, big boy” guitar and that’s bullshit. PRS’s budget models still outclass about 90% of all the guitars I’ve seen over the years.

After viewing loads of PRS SE and core models, and not hearing a major difference between them. I came across a 2013 Korean made Custom 24 in charcoal grey with the birds on the neck. As it had three holes screwed into it for a GK3 Synth pickup (idiot, use the sticky pads) I got it at a steal, at least $200 less than other ones I'd seen. It also had a hard case so I done the deal. I filled the holes, colored and drop filled them, sanding them smooth. I felt the fingerboard edges a bit too abrupt so I rounded them off, perfect. after playing Les Pauls and Strats for many, many years, I wanted to see what this guitar could bring to the table. Firstly humbuckers, It's a good bit brighter than my Les Pauls, possibly because of the treble bleed capacitor fitted, not the same tone quality, missing the Gibson quack, really a bit generic. Think more Schecter, Ibanez etc! Split coils fare a good bit better, getting a reasonable Strat tone out of each and a nice Tele middle position. Where it falls down of course is Strat positions 2 and 4, everyone's favorites! Maybe a three humbucking pickup version with a five way switch and extra coil split would be the ultimate PRS. Check my video ;0)

I like the 35th anniversary (Faded Blue Burst) but the pickups are TCI "S" rather than 85-15 (which I played today). Is there a big difference between the two pickups? No mention of the SE 24-08 models considering those are an option in both SE Standard, SE Custom, SE Paul's Guitar, S2 McCarty 594 (singlecut, doublecut, thin) and the other more expensive lines' variations.

the way the light catches the Black model, it looks like a Music Man Majesty & nothing like a PRS!

Great vid! Though I thought the SE Customs were created in America, instead of Korea. Also didn’t they move to Indonesia to use Cort guitar’s factory for the Standards, though I might be wrong

That ‘flame maple cap’ on the se is a veneer. It is on my se. seems like the 1800.00 s2 has plastic inlays and Korean pickups. A 2000.00 squire? Was looking forward to buying one I hope when I pick it up it’s nicer than I’m reading.

If you can't tell the difference between a Malaysian (not Korean sadly) PRS and the Core (USA) version, you're not looking at the right core model... check out their "Special" with the 3 pickup arrangement and the 12 different tones it's capable off.. this is a $6000 with "10 top" guitar, but trust me, you'll know you're holding a guitar worthy of the price tag once you give it a listen.

Hello everyone. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if PRS have good tuning stability?

The reason one would want fewer frets is that it lets the neck pickup rest farther from the bridge, right? So you get fuller sound from it contrasted with the bridge pickup? Never tested it but the physics makes sense.

I had a $2500 Custom 24 and it played well but had zero "mojo" compared to my Schecter USA PT, Les Pauls, and Fender Telecaster. Generic and bland. Ive never been more disappointed. Anyone else have the same experience or should I give PRS another chance? I like the Vela model.

Look, not every manufacturer is for everyone I personally don't care for fender because of the scale length. it is what it is......Just because Paul makes the best guitars in the world doesn't mean everyone has to like them

It really depends on how the manufacturers have adapted, really. Talk about modern metal, metalcore, we have SIS (Specter, Ibanez, Schecter), and yeah, hands down the best if you're playing those two long term. TBH i like how PRS now has coil tap standardised across almost all its lines except the McCarty's (since they're Gibson inspired), albeit at a slightly higher price than say, a Squier or Epiphone alone.

But they're lightweight too, and that's a major factor in deciding to get one of them. Carrying an Am Pro strat 94 an LP (both $3.2K) would've made my arms drop like hell since I'm not that muscular

I love how my PRS SE feel but was never stoked on the tone. I put Seymour Duncan pickups in it and it is now my favorite guitar..

I had an artist pack custom 24, back in 2001 But, I wanted the single cut, that was the time that gibson stopped them selling them. I stupidly sold all my other guitars, thinking it would replace them, but it didn't have the feel or vibe that I eventually missed, so I traded it back for a gibson les paul std. Fast forward 10 years or so, I had a quilted maple black cherry prs se 245, I put the pickups out of phase, sounded great, possible one of the best guitars I owned. I then stopped playing a few years later and sold everything.

Dagan I’ve got a player plus telecaster and am looking for something to go with it for heavier rock and metal tones. Do you think one of the custom SE models would foot the bill or maybe something like the Jim root jazzmaster or a shektar. I was thinking there would be more range with the customs. Gaaaargh so much choice🤘
