PRS reached out to me to see if I'd like to try out any of their new models! Out of my selections, they decided to send me the new PRS SE McCarty 594 Standard and Flame Top models to try. These were a few nitpicky details that maybe could've been enhanced, but overall, I was very pleased with the playability and tone. I'd definitely suggest the straight mahogany SE McCarty Standard

If a full thickness maple top might make a tonal difference, I am pretty sure that a mere veneer isn't going to make any difference to the tone of the instrument. It's just not enough to change anything but the looks.

Who'd have thought, that just a few months later in the same year, PRS would be blowing these out at 20% off list price. I just scored a Vintage Cherry standard for $629 with a little haggling. Its 7lbs. 12ozs. with the most even grained consistent mahogany I've seen on one yet. Just a flawless top and back, and even the neck and headstock have perfectly matched grain and color. I looked at dozens of them from various sources and they ALL had wildly varying grain patterns and dark patches. The good ones get snatched up fast.

I like the way Phil McKnight described the situation. If your looking for absolute perfect paint and finish QC, maybe Gibson isn't the guitar for you? Many brands are blowing guitars through Cortek Indonesia factories for under $1000 U.S. and they come out great. But it's not apples to apples. When 85% of the construction is done with automation in Indonesia, and 85% of the construction is done by hand in the U.S. the price SHOULD be different.

Yep… I literally only play PRS guitars anymore. Have owned Givsons, Fenders, Schecters, Ibanez, and LTD guitars… none of them compare to the quality of a PRS. Don’t get me wrong, an SE Definitely will be below the quality of a Gibson over 2k but it will be pretty damn close! Now, if you buy a $3000 Gibson and a $3000 PRS, I promise on everything I owned that the PRS will be far better quality. They get it right every time, regardless of the model, because they don’t let ANYTHING leave their factory without being thoroughly looked over. PRS for life. Ibanez is definitely #2

I overlooked this brand for a while as I’m a Strat guy. I was in the market for another Strat, when the guy at the guitar store handed me the Custom PRS SE 24-08. Played it for about an hour straight in the store and of course I took it home. I absolutely love it. Don’t know how it stands up to the more expensive PRS models, but it does everything, sounds amazing, and most importantly it feels amazing. Couldn’t be happier.

A question please: Being a Strat guy, how do you rate the sounds humb resp. single coil And the playability vs. your Strat ?
@atlasshrugged6435
@atlasshrugged6435 Жыл бұрын
@@fp3359 I’m running this through a Boss Katana, and there’s no hum at all. Keep in mind there are 8 different pickup configurations (hence the name), and I like the humbucker settings, so I don’t really go single/single at all, which may have something to do with the “no hum. I may go single/humbucker at times (still no hum), but I’m using this for times when I want that “Gibson sound”, so single/single ain’t happening. Which brings me to your next question. I personally hate Gibson’s. Not the sound or look, but how they feel. This guitar thankfully has more of a Strat feel to it. The neck profile however is much flatter at a 10” radius, so that may take some getting used to. That and the 24 frets. I got lost a time or two at first when I first played it. I’m still a Strat guy at the end of the day, but this guitar was surprisingly enjoyable to play. My best advice would be to go try it for yourself though and go nuts. I’d hate to steer you wrong, but I honestly think you’d be extremely happy if you were on the fence at the moment and decided to pull the trigger. It’s a great guitar. Anyway, hope that helps 🤟🎸

The 24.594 scale is meant to mimic the small run of (I believe) 57 les pauls. It was a small error and was only on a handful but McCarty thought was the best feeling lp neck. So he reproduced it as closely as possible for prs.

Well I don't have a review video but I do own a CE24! It's an amazing guitar and maybe my second most versatile. The neck shape is really nice (I prefer a thinner neck) and the satin finish is one of my favorite features of the whole guitar. Tuning stability is A+, and the coil splits do a really nice job of getting close to single coil while still keeping a really nice tone. I find the tone about 75 percent single coil, but its a nice change up from a typical strat if that's what you are looking for. All in all a great guitar. Has the makings of a nice studio do it all guitar that cuts well through a mix.

Those low output pickups sounds great as humbuckers but a bit thin when split. I thing you need a bit higher output to get good sound in split mode or a stronger resistor when split.

Hi Trogly have you ever done a count of how many distinct model variations Gibson have done in electric guitars. The variations would be where a feature has been changed as opposed to a year change where nothing was changed on the instrument, changes in labelling would count. You could then keep a running total as they increase. Perhaps you already have a spreadsheet with them on

I'm not sure what they spray their guitars with but those 2 examples are the shinnyest 2 on your video and I wish I've seen. Nitro, epoxy or variathan

Your looing at it backwards. sure they could send you a perfect guitar to review. Doesnt it make more sense for them send the ones that do not pass Q.C. Hence tool marks, knob drag (I hate when that happens)

I have an Ibanez AZS prestige where the tone pot drags. I'd say with these though, it's early teething problems. They haven't even got the first run in the shops yet.

there is no such thing as "tonewood" on a solid-body electric guitar. Come on now, I know you watch Glen Fricker

Though Glenn also caveats his wood experiments "no difference for metal tone". He did say there was a very slight difference on clean tones. So in reality tonewood is a thing in solid bodies, just such a tiny thing it's not worth losing sleep over. One notch on the tone dial would likely equalise it.
