Prudence Layne on developing a Knowledge for Freedom Program

Prudence Layne, Associate Professor of English and founder and director of the Freedom Scholars program at Elon University, is in conversation wtih Dr. Jessica Lee, Executive Director of Freedom and Citizenship at Columbia University, about launching new Knowledge for Freedom programs, how to bring texts from the summer into the year-long civic program, and how to establish a relationship with the local community.
This session took place on March 10, 2023 as part of a Knowledge for Freedom Touchstone meeting. Knowledge for Freedom programs invite underserved high school students to study enduring works of literature and philosophy that raise deep questions about leading lives of purpose and civic responsibility.
