Ok I have to ask, why no interest? I ask because if you think it needs to be super difficult or time consuming, this isn’t always the case. If you have 200 maples, yes, you’ll spend a lot of time. If you have one or two trees like a Chinese elm, seriously not a big deal. Also you can even go the route of a mini jade tree… virtually no time required! Anyway, just throwing that out there.

Yes, but just start some bonsai for the future letting the trunks grow and some pruning. The finer points will come in time. In five to ten years this small effort will be so rewarding.

Dont apologize for the rain. Its actually quite soothing as you speak. I almost go into a meditative state. Here in SW Va, its been in the upper 90's for weeks, with absolutely no rain. The grass crunches under your feet, leaving foot prints in the dead grass. All my small trees are under 40% shade cloth so as to NOT burn, and not dry out too much before I get home to water. I am watering even my Vinka vines. Never seen these start dying off from the heat like this. We are DESPERATE for rain at this point.

I used the style principles I’ve learned from you on my container grown Autumn Moon maples - just a little trim, because I don’t really know what I’m doing yet, just to let some light in, and taking crossed branches away - and I’m just delighted by the beauty and elegance just that much created in them. And yes, I once was a hairdresser, and it really felt very similar to cutting hair. Thank you.

I have upright and weeping Japanese maples in my landscape and in containers. Watching your videos have greatly increased my pruning skills. I’ve heard that only 1/3 of a tree should be pruned at a time. Sometimes I’m afraid to do all that I’d like. I’m not the original owner of my home, and I only learned about pruning about 4 years ago, so there’s still a lot to correct. Thank you for making the videos.

This form is very natural for maples. I am not sure that I have ever seen a single trunk maple tree with horizontal branches and a conical, Christmas Tree shape in nature, but I have seen many with two or more large branches growing upwards. Actually, there are several growing in my yard. If you go to the Park nearby that has some primary succession native Acer sp. growing in its forest, you will find many. If Bonsai is supposed to represent a mature tree growing in nature then this is the correct form for a maple tree.

Question Peter... I have several Tridents. One tree has three trunks that separate from the main trunk about 5 inches from the nebari into three. I've been contemplating taking off two of them, because as you said, it seems to be more pleasing to have just one trunk. I've been thinking and thinking about it. If I decide to, when it the best time of year to do such a drastic cut of two trunks? Up till now, I have done most deep structure pruning in late winter.

@@starkieable According to an article I read in a Spanish magazine, Bonsai Pasion nº 54, it is about D glucose, which is the same as that used for physiological serum. One part glucose is diluted in eight parts water. It is watered and sprayed. Due to the urgency of the case, I had to do it with the first one I found, which was an oral in single-dose sachets, it worked for me but the tree was all sticky solved with a subsequent shower. That is my experience with glucose.
