I don’t have a wisteria but I have a grapevine and I have made wreaths from the trimmings. Pruned the grapevine yesterday, as well as the star jasmine which is very flexible…hmmm. I planted an American wisteria two years ago and expect more aggressive growth this year. Another vine for wreaths.

Hi Laura, I been following you for a few years now. And I have to say that you just surprised me all the time with how creative and the knowledge you have. I use to be a gardener when I had my house. It was my hobby, my love, my passion. However all that change in 2019 when I went through a divorce and sold my home. Watching you gives me a sense of peace and I love every minute of it and look forward to your videos every day. Watching you has help me so much to just calm my spirit from losing a hobby I love so much. Your channel to me is therapy and for that I'm greatful. God bless you and your beautiful Family. THANK YOU 🙏❤

The old fashioned Wisteria in the south spreads and covers entire trees. You can always tell where a home used to be even if it’s gone, because of the Wisteria and daffodils that live there forever! But it’s beautiful and smells amazing ❤

I live on the east coast of Virginia. Our neighbor behind us planted a Wisteria. Over 10 years the root runners ran all under the ground, under their garage. For the next 5 years after cutting the Wisteria completely down, they fought it hard. I made the mistake of planting one at the end of my chain link fence. When I saw what our neighbor was going through, I started digging mine up. I had to dig down 3 feet and the runners were starting to go under my house! I dug 6 feet out on the runners, 3 feet deep! I had planted my wisteria only 2 years prior to this. So, while I admire wisteria from afar, in the woods, I don’t want it anywhere near any of my structures. Note of interest: the reason my neighbor cut his down, there were rats (not mice) running along the wisteria eating the blooms in the spring(ugh!). He lives one street over from a marsh. But the kind of wisteria they sold around here on the east coast did not specify what type it was. Moral of the story is, if you want wisteria, make sure you research and make sure it’s not the invasive kind. You’ll save yourself a lot of money on repairing the damage they can cause to foundations and walkways. Even if you contain the above ground size of this particular wisteria, the below ground growth continues on and on.

WOW! I didn't know this about wisteria. Being a Chicago gal where it will not grow because of the winter cold, I thought that wisteria only got wild up on top and needed to be trimmed. Thanks for the "underground" information about this plant.

Same here, there was one already planted on my property when I purchased it. I dug it up 2 years ago and still have runners, it has been a beast for sure. I would never plant one on my property because I know how much destruction it causes underground. I was still pulling 30 foot long runners from my yard last summer. They can do major damage to home as well as kill many plants and trees. It took out a 40 foot mimosa tree here and half my holly from roots wrapping around them and killing them

I think a wooden long archway, painted white, or a walkway arbor the length of the chicken coop would look beautiful in that area and allow the wisteria to grow the length of it. It would blend nicely with the chicken coop too! Love the wreath too Laura!

I usually make wreaths with the long whips that I prune off. They're more flexible if not too thick. I have a Wisteria Chinensis that calls for pruning in late fall and then in February. It gets new blooms that flower unless killed by an April frost that lasts more than 1 night. Once I made a Fairy Wand and larger cones for Annuals. Heart shapes are pretty easy. Sometimes soaking the branches in a round tub of water helps with bendability AND pre-forms the wreath💜🩷.

Love how you used the “refuse” of branches to make something so gorgeous! Wreath forms are pretty expensive to buy and the ones you buy are not nearly as beautiful! I did the same with a grapevine growing up an electrical pole behind my house...I made a swag from the branches and it had all kinds of curlicues coming off of it! I used the dried flowers from the bouquet I carried in my brother’s wedding for the center and I love it! Cheddar is so fun and charming! He reminds me of my kitty that I lost in 2022...she was almost 20 and had just as much spunk! That volunteer viola was so precious! I love finding little plants like that in my yard every Spring...like a path of treasures! This was a fun video! TYFS ❤️🦋💜

Hey! Great video Laura, as always! I’ve been pruning my wisteria in late winter for the past few years and making wreaths out of it is the best part of it ;-) It’s not only the right time to prune - it’s also necessary to get bigger flowers. Summer pruning is usually performed to keep it in check, but winter pruning is the key - cutting by the 3rd bud is usually the best, more prolific flowering guaranteed 😊

Hi! I have MILLIONS of grapevines growing along my riverbank that I’m no longer going to burn, so thank you for that tutorial! I try to keep ahead of them, but it’s a full-time job! When I first moved here, the vines had grown for many years and were strangling most of the trees in the forest that runs alongside the river. The trees were dying, and when the spring thaw came through it would slowly continue to erode the riverbank as there were no roots to stabilize it. My side is all good now…but my neighbour across the river has never pruned his, and his side of the river is eroding like crazy- he has to move his horse fences back every second year! Some of vines were so large in diameter, I couldn’t get my two hands around them and had to use a chainsaw! So…for anyone looking for grape vines, check along riverbanks! If you find some in one area, chances are pretty good that you’ll find it along the entire river. Many property owners would probably LOVE you to come and cut as much as you want!! (Asking permission first, of course!😊) Laura, this is the first video I’ve seen of yours and it was great! However, I have a couple of questions about the houseplants you potted. 1) You said the pots were sealed. I thought that plants always needed holes to ensure proper water drainage? Even though the top few inches might be dry, I always find that the soil below is wet, and without the ability to drain, plants are much more susceptible to root rot. 2) I always wash my pots in hot soapy water to avoid spreading any diseases. I noticed some of the lower half of your pots had a slightly greenish tinge of algae. Can that not affect the plants and soil in that pot, and even surrounding pots? 3) If you ever use pots that drain, what do you line the bottom with? I usually put a coffee filter or couple of paper towels to help retain the soil, then stones & broken bits of clay pots on top of that. What about using nylon-like material? I’ve seen people put styrofoam peanuts, and pool noodles in the bottom instead of stones to make it lighter, but I’ve always worried about contaminating the soil and killing the plant when they start to break down or off-gas. I’d like to hear your opinion about the safety of using materials such as this, and any other suggestions you might have to a) help with drainage, and b) keep the soil in the pot. Thanks so much! Whereabouts do you live btw? I’m in Midwestern Ontario, and thought that your surroundings looked similar - including the absence of snow cover (YAYYY!) Looking forward to your response. Thanks again! Patti

You could build a pergola for that wisteria to grow on for a nice place to sit in the shade to enjoy watching chicken antics or the beautiful scenery around that gorgeous Hartley!

Hi Laura! Can we have an update on your chickens. Can we see them? How are they doing? Are they laying a lot of eggs right now?

So glad you did this video with using wisteria for wreath form. I had never thought of this and could kick myself for all the vines I have just tossed.😢
