Pruning to get bushier plant doesn't work for my Begonia. It keeps growing in height, I must've cut her on the same spot 3 or 4 times now. I got a bushier plant by planting the rooted cutting next to their parent plant, but the parent plant just continues to grow on the same spot I cut it.

Sometimes you have to be aware of where you make your cut because the cut if on the inside of the plant it will grow a branch growing inside to the plant and if you make a cut above Leaf it's pointing to the outside of your plant that's where that branch is going to grow. I learned this when I learned how to prune my Apple trees and holly bushes you can pick out where the branch is going to shoot out from the main stem. And it's true you need to have multiple stems in a pot to have a bushy plant one stem especially with some types of angel wing begonias you're never going to get a bushy plant

You could also try a pebble tray. Basically, get a platter of pebbles/Hydroton, fill it with water (I used distilled water because tap water leaves behind a white mineral residue as it dries), put the plant on top of the pebble tray but keep it on a saucer so that the holes at the bottom of the plant pot are not in direct contact with the pebbles/water or the soil will soak it up and become saturated all the time. Basically if the plant looks very vibrant, it's healthy. Mine was not looking very healthy when I got it. It was a faded green color because it was in the basement of a hardware store. After 2 weeks in an east-facing window with some sun in the morning it really came back to life and the color popped!

I have several other cane begonias and they are doing well but overnight the maculata wightii leaves have curled and wrinkled and look sort of soggy. I bet by now you have roots! I have rarely rarely lost a begonia cutting that I put in water. Unless I cut one that was a fairly new stem and there was a lot of room between each leaf. @@melamelaga To be honest, I have picked specific suggestions from the US Amazon store based on the reviews of others or the experiences shared by others in blogs, on KZbin, on IG, etc. But as for me, I buy whatever is cheapest and most highly reviewed on Amazon when I need mix. You can absolutely wet Begonia leaves. In fact, top-watering can prevent powder mildew spores from germinating if they land on Begonia leaves. But you don't want standing water on them for long periods of time. With B. maculata 'Wightii' it's not a problem, the water slicks right off and doesn't pool in the leaves.

Hi Betsy! I finally got a cane begonia (they're still hard to find in the states). I have it in a east facing window, keep the well-draining soil lightly damp, small pot for the root system and my home is about 65-80% humidity. My plant is dropping leaves from the stem. Just two about a week apart so far. They aren't browning or wilting first. Aren't squishy. Just kind of jumping ship. I'm very confused and was curious if you'd run into this as care info for this specific begonia is pretty scarce. Thank you so much in advance for your time if you respond!!

Let the soil dry out a bit more between waterings, see if that helps.

My cane begonia took forever to root in water. Like almost three months! Probably because I was so excited to have her I decided to make more plants right away: in January 🤭 Yours looks amazing!!

Wow, that's a long time! Mine usually start showing roots within 2-3 weeks and I can pot them up in a month or so but they get lots of bright, indirect light and I keep them in a nice warm place. Thank you for watching!

Begonias like most plants do their growth spurts in the spring and the summer and in the winter they're kind of dormant. So that's probably why yours took so long to root it was still dormant because it was winter. Most plants don't like to be fertilized during the winter because they aren't growing and can't use the fertilizer. I just started a KZbin channel I'm 70 years old have love plants all my life so you're welcome to come to my channel and see what's going on there just put the word house plants orchids philodendrons coleus into the search engine along with my name and you'll find me

I got my first begonia a few weeks ago (Begonia Diadema) and she is gorgeous! I think the first time I watered her I overdid it because she definitely has been dropping too many leaves. Thanks to your video I feel more confident that I can get her to a happy state and can get her blooming 🤗 I was going to switch her pot because she is quite large but now I definitely won't! So many useful tips in one video!! Thanks 😍
