This gem of a series is hidden away under mountains of KZbin nonsense! I love the information you are giving away. Here in France they pollard the trees in towns and it's an awful, cruel, unnecessary practice. And it looks terrible! Thank you for sharing your passion.

Cass, you are wonderful! In just a few minutes, I realized how little I know about pruning, and how I've been doing it wrong for years - causing all sorts of problems. Your pruning methods and tips are invaluable and your video series is a pleasure to watch - even for an electronics tech. like me! Best of all, you get the message across with well selected diagrams and photos - and a DELIGHTFUL sense of humour! BRAVO!!!!!

Coming across these videos out of curiosity, then it turned into a hobby now it's become a carrier. I love the tree care industry.

Hi there, I really enjoy all of these videos! I’m an amateur but the topic of pruning has really captured my interest and because of Cass’ succinct presentations I’m finding myself looking at trees and plants everywhere I go, identifying where people have made heading cuts, noticing where shrubs have been repeatedly sheared, etc! It’s fascinating and I feel much more empowered to try pruning responsibly. Thank you for your passion for the landscape we experience day to day. I’ve learned a lot :-) PS: I really appreciate the dry humor! 😄 Edit: Rest In Peace to Cass Turnbull, her work is still inspiring new people like me, years later.

Ms. Turnbull and the rest of the Plant Amnesty crew - Thank you. You all have saved so many of my plants (and my neighbors, and my family's!) with your videos! So again- THANK YOU! If you "do requests" or are looking for a new topic to educate on...could you please choose turning an overgrown shrub into a tree-like shrub? There are many instances around the web of "this plant works well as a tree-like shrub" but no examples of how to do it. Thank you again for the hard work you all put in to all of these wonderful references.

YES. Thanks you.. I love your cause.. and I can't agree more. Mal-pruning is the most heart breaking for me on the job. I've been a one woman gardening show for over 20 years now and what upsets me the most is when people prune when its convenient for them, not the plant! And the most devastating is when the lawn peeps take it upon themselves to come into the garden, (with good intentions) but they end up pruning the *&^% out of them and this always happens in the fall here in New England, when there is really nothing to be pruned that time of year! But people want to "clean up" the appearance of things, but they missed the boat on that.. you have to plan ahead and prune in the winter spring or summer here.

Sadly we hear often too many times what we are doing wrong. I'm planting some shrubs and have learned some terms as to what not to do. Hopefully as I watch more video's by Ms. Turnbull I will learn what TO DO, so I don't screw this up. I can't afford to replace these shrubs I've purchased. : ) Another thing I find over the years is most gardening publications don't deal with winter and snow. This also makes me sad. I'll keep watching. Each day another video since I don't have time to watch them all today. I'd like to but work calls. : ) Thank you miss Turnbull for your help.

I don't really mind little water sprouts around the cuts. I just really need to keep my trees low as there are electric cables above. Will heading cuts do the job?

I over thinned and skirted a lilac bush that was planted ( not by me) 4 feet from the front entrance.... of a rented home. it took forever..didn't last..I moved of course it was a rented place..and learned all my next planted lilacs will be in an Alley.. road way..and I will walk beside them on my way..and smile.

If you want a tree really short and maintenance free, prune it to ground level and apply tordon. You'll never have to prune again! j/k excellent video! Actual question, what if you were to cut a 50ft. tall tree to a few feet and let the new growth grow unimpeded (coppicing), would it still quickly grow to the original height?

I have eight conifers all bunched up in a row on and incline. They screen the back of the house from the street but have grown too high and block light to the garden. Do I just lop the tops off? They are about 35 years old and the big ones are over 20ft high.

You have made the most sense i have heard in ages!! "bored ground crew" and "recognition" uhhh, I can take care of a bush for 15 years and it looks natural.. but the new lawn peeps come on the job and think it looks wild and hasn't been sheared.. lol and then.. yes.. I am left with sickly bush that I have to nurse back for years.. amazing the damage that can be done in minutes of shearing .. because it looked unshapen and natural... Perspective.. I guess.. its like they look at the plant and don't see the straight lines or perfectly mounded shapes like we've created inside our dwellings, so they must control it! )O(

Forty-five seconds worth of information delivered in twelve minutes, which is how long it took to learn that Plant Amnesty simply has something against formal hedges. Although I'll agree that the tree pictured at 10:00 is an atrocity.
