In this series I'm pruning three very different Ficus microcarpa trees!
In part two, I'm pruning my small Ficus bonsai, cutting of a cutting.

I think the "Cutting of a Cutting's" trunk looks really cool with the scaring, it gives the tree character. Two (green) thumb's up...

I love the names of these figs; "Cutting of a cutting", "Fancy" and "Plain"! Some of mine have names, too - they seem to acquire them as they develop in much the same way as the trunk or root base!

Don't gone so far to naming them yet but they are really like individual marvels of nature and not copies of each others :)

those ficus videos are just PERFECT for me :) Love your ficus trees ! ! looking reaaaally good :) I've just pruned my "almost bonsai" 2 years old cutting of a tiger bark. It pretty much looks like a miniature tree since pruning today :) Cutting was quite fat so I guess I saved time :) Pretty happy with the pruning ! First "shaping" of his life :) Take care and keep it up :)

Lot of big cuts in this one. The tree looks good even with the pruning scars, a look of experience and hardship.

Enjoyed part 1 so much I just had to watch part 2! Nice styling on that ficus, but I question the lower branch - don't think we would see anything like that in nature, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Pat, I've seen lower spreading branches on a Ficus, usually there are more than one, but not always! I' hoping it develops aerial roots in the future!

Hi Nigel I like the scars and bumps on the trunk I think it adds a lot of character , but I'm sorry I know you like that side branch but it just keeps distracting me and to me it just unbalances the tree which is such a sweet little tree but that is my opinion only. I am looking forward to seeing you do the root work on this tree. cheers for the videos,I always enjoy them thanks again

Hey Nigel, could you suggest a place here in Canada to find seedlings or cuttings from Microcarpa? Here in Winnipeg, I've seen only Benjamina and even seeds I can't find.

My Ficus looks like this species. When I look online I also find Ginseng ficus, and Ficus Retusa, which looks the same. It's confusing. Is there a difference?

I think, the front sidebranch will be shortened more than rear one next pruning :) not sure if I'd remove it all, have to agree with Maestro Nigel, it adds something to the tree and makes it look unique..
