Kinda interesting to see Blücher refer to his men as "children". Guess that meant he really cared for them and being the commander of them all, they saw him as a father figure.

In 1819 a troop of Yeomanray charged a peacefull mass meeting of 60, 000 Weavers in St Peter's Field in Manchester. Killing 11 and wounding over 500. When Rioting occurred Locol Authorities called in the army who were not trained to cope with riots and crowd control. The Peterloo of Massacre as it came to be known, helped to accelerate the Process of change towards the introduction of a PROFESSIONAL POLICE FORCE. Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850) a Skillful Politican became Home Secretary in 1822, and carefully made police reforms without arousing the public fear of intimidation. He believed in crime prevention rather than relieving on punishment as a deterrent. In 1829 Legislation was passed by Parliament to establish the new Metropolitan Police in London.

@@abramay1382 I think, because the director was Russian and Russia had been waging war against a merciless Wehrmacht not long before the film, the Prussians are portrayed here as particularly dark and merciless, which has less to do with Blücher and the army of 1815 than with the Russian sensibility towards the Germans of 1945/1975 - that's what I meant!
