Felony 11-79 developed by Yanoman Games & CLIMAX, published by ASCII Entertainment Software in 1997. Also known as Runabout in Japanese region.
"Hit and Run baby! Thrash beach front property, police cars, glass fronted mini-malls and billboards - essentially, any and everything goes for the greatest joyride of your life! The mission is grab the goods, destroy what you can and get the heck outta town.... fast!"
Well this is an odd game. A very short (3 levels) version of GTA or Driver. Hit the target, collect the loot, reach the checkpoint before the time runs out. Simple stuff. All the while smashing up as much as you can along the way while limiting damage to your own vehicle. Causing damage awards you money while knackering up your vehicle. Differences to note are that you collect dynamite in this version and Batteries in the alternate version. KM instead of MPH and the game shows the secret cars waiting to be collected. The cars are also named and handle differently. Paris is called Metro in the JP version.
There are 3 maps and a training course. The maps have plenty of secrets and shortcuts to discover. There are also 20 vehicles to unlock which is done by earning as much money as you can up to 2.5 million. There is a time trial mode so you can explore without a time limit or take damage and a Setup mode that allows you to change car settings and try them out on a race course. Some of the vehicles are manual gears only, typically the faster/better ones.
In the longplay I show off the 3 level story while unlocking something. Each level is played 3 times in order to show all unlocks although it might be possible to cover two in one run (no damage and under 4 mins) but not easily done. I show off a few of the unlocked cars where they help meet an objective. I'd liked to have shown the tank which can fire to help blow things up but its so slow, you cant beat the level in time. I try to mix up the routes to show more of each track.
It's an odd game due to its length without much replay ability unless you really want to unlock all the cars and set time records on each track. The game does feature an in game interlaced mode to match the menus but I couldn't see any noticeable quality differences and I would have to deal with deinterlacing afterwards softening the image.
