I tested the mod and i definitely can't recommend it right away. The fan doesn't reliably spin up at 5 volts and it really takes its sweet time. But you can't just use a 5 Volt fan either because the PS2 supplies 5 to 8 Volts to the fan. The fan eventually powers up but it simply cannot cool down the PS2 enough which causes the PS2 to power off. I'm still trying to make it work though. I'll try cutting away that big circle in the center of the grill to increase airflow and if it doesn't help i'll add a boost converter and set it to 12 Volts to run the fan at maximum power.

I do appreciate your feedback on this. I like the mod but I haven't played for an extended amount of time to trip a power off. If you do find a way to supply the 12v and cool where the PS2 can be maintained cooling enough to not trip a power off. I would love to know if you are willing to share. Thanks again for your feedback :)

@@RetroRepairYT One thing i can recommend is cutting away the big circle in the fan grill. That alone obstructs the air flow badly. That helped but i still need to try the 12 Volt boost converter.

Hi, I'm looking to a FAN replacement, do you find out the best replacement?

I heard that a 5v fan with a 10ohm2w resistor works. I guess (on the 3900 series anyways) the fan output is 5v but if detects a hard drive increases to 7v. 10ohm resistor knocks the 7v down to 5v.

I actually like the stock ps2 fan it not that noisy compared to sony airlines of the ps3 ps4 consoles the ps2 fan pretty relaxing it with its little running noise

I can see that as relaxing white noise. That is a totally good take on it

What's the temperature difference? Quieter fan but also smaller. I'd rather noise than overheating. Any issues after using it a year?
