Only downside is it’s not true HDMI. A Digital to Digital mod is in the works, but it will be a much more complex install. Til then using Component plugged into the RetroTinks 5X is the way to go.

Why has the PS2 been the one console everyone in the retro community refruse to touch ? Is it really that complicated and complex or is their no interest ? It's the most popular console ever made so I'm still shocked there hasn't been a ps2 digital or even a high quality ps2 hdmi adapter like what GameCube and Xbox got with the carby and chimeric adapter even the n64 got the super64 and ultra hdmi mod/digital

@@or2130 The PS2 is a more complex machine with it’s Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesiser chip. Where as the Gamecube and the Og Xbox and even the Dreamcast were essentially very similar to PC’s. As for the PS2 there are modchips but no modern modchip, there is the HDMI mod in the works, there is FreeMcboot softmod which is quite recent, there is flash soft mod which is similar to the modchip but it’s done through softmodding, there is Pico PSU board for the Phat PS2 which replaces the Og PSU, there is OPL which allows for you to run games off the harddrive. The PS2 scene is definitely different but the PS2 does get some attention.

@@SychoSam There are Digital HDMI Adaptors for the Gamecube that will upscale 480p to 1080p. But no the Gamecube cannot do native 1080p, since it’s an early 2000’s console. Only the Wii U and the Switch and beyond can do native 1080p.

When I wanna make holes for HDMIs I use a broken hdmi, heat the tip and melt a perfect hdmi shaped slot 👍🏼 ( if you do it from the outside - in, you’ll get good results)

I’ve cut hundreds of HDMI ports for mods and I would never do it that way. The excess plastic has to go somewhere and you will still end up having to clean it up with razors, files, etc.

@@emmettturner9452 It is better to take an old HDMI that heats up with fire using a lighter, not so much and piercing the plastic from the outside to the inside, it will be perfect, ideally and that it heats up to a similar temperature to a 30W soldering iron.

With solutions now almost here like the RetroGem, doing this is not necessary anymore but serves a cool video to showcase what people can do when they really want that HDMI output. Unfortunately most adapters like these don’t know how to handle PS1 games on PS2 so they make not work for playing them.

No, it’s RGBS or YPbPr. Still, the chip used in those converters is no better than the one in any modern TV that still has analog inputs.

Oh it was so long ago =) as I remember there is 5v on that video output so I tried it without 5v on usb and it worked. But maybe on the fat model it’s different and you need to search for extra 5v source.

Ill follow your full video for the cables and try to cram it in somewhere else because I am removing the disc-drive (broken) and installing an ssd + network mini router for SMB transfer over OPL. Unfortunatelly the Mini Router also needs a USB-Power Cable so annother issue for annother time :D

I just use monster component cables,looks better in 480p on a great CRT. Ive tied to use , component on flats but even in 4:3 it just isn't the same to me.

this is just one of the hdmi adaptors disasembled and intergrated into the housing, hardwired in. at the beggining you can see them desolder the usual connector.

LOL! No. This is literally no different than one of those external RGB SCART or YPbPr converters. They don’t properly handle 240p and they add latency, plus, they are the exact same chip you find built-in to almost any modern TV that still has analog inputs. May as well just get one of those and skip the double-scaling.

If i want to play ps2 on a bigger screen id rather just use emulator instead because you can upscale the resolution. But with an actual ps2 its better to play on an crt tv

You had me, until I saw you adding hot glue to it. That's NOT the way to secure your soldered joints. If you properly soldered the wires in the first place, you shouldn't need hot glue. That's a big no no! But to each their own I guess. 🤜🤛
