@@leeladevi5200 about that my problem ended up being my console heating up too much during certain games. If I were to guess it would be the thermal paste giving way so if you're brave enough at this stage I suggest looking for videos on that. Otherwise do what I did, buy another PS3. They should be way cheaper nowadays. That or have your PS3 fixed. Try the solution in the video first. But if your fan is working really hard during graphically intensive scenes then your problem is the same as mine.

I'm confused, my ps3's been having these syntoms for a while and at the beginning it only happened when playing mlb 11 the show, now its happens seconds after i turn on the ps3 no matter what game is on it, how can i know if it's the ylod, red light, etc if it is turning off no matter what game is in?

Maybe be something more intensive, bad hdd, loose parts inside that cause continual issues with saves/restores/startup could be corrupted system files.

That was for an entirely different problem, if your system didn't have the YLOD then it may have made it worse. It sounds like your system is now either stuck in fan test mode or one of the fans is damaged.

I've tried this on TTT2 which shuts down within minutes. After doing this, it definitely stayed on for much longer before it switched off. Now it's back to how it used to be. I don't want to go through the game data install again since it's 8GB big. Anyways, thanks for the help. What could be causing the game to corrupt the data/file system?

Is the disc clean are there any fingerprints, smudges, or other stuff? If so get a clean dry cotton tee shirt and clean the disc. Once it is clean be sure you don't touch the bottom of the disc and examine it, are there any scratches, gouges, or cracks?

I'm not sure, you could always try a local computer repair shop, they usually charge 50-100$.

That is a great question, one of the biggest things is shutting it off while saving or anytime the HDD is in the midst of accessing stored files, it can also happen because of actual disc errors which will not be "fixed" by this. Is it giving you issues with any other games?

Any dlc that gets deleted removed or otherwise corrupted can be redownloaded from psn store, go on there and look under the tab that says, downloads. It will have your history of downloaded items.

It can be a problem with the processor coming loose, the fans not cooling properly, or a corrupted system file.

Wow, no updates? How long have you had your system? It may help, some times the updates contain patches for issues in the software and firmware as well as patches for security issues. Do you take your ps3 online?

there are different options within the safe mode menu, you don't have to delete everything, you just want to have the files restored. to see if that will help. if you do and it doesn't then it can be an issue with the HDD itself, a loose chipset, or even a bad laser. Do any other games cause this problem?

@fatprecherman No the fan does not run real hard, and the is not an abnormal amount of heat coming from the fan either when it shuts down

Not in my experience, because in order to do a full format you have to be able to get the system up and running and the RLOD prevents that. But I could be wrong.

If it is only one game, then I would think it would be, did you try deleting it and redownloading it, make sure to do the saved data also.

Hmm, I might try it. Although this seems to be a common problem on the fat backward compatible ps3s, as many people with the same problem are complaining on the forum. I have made a few observations. 1 This only happens during gameplay (anywhere excpet the menus). 2 If I do a file system restore and then immediately go back to safe mode, it still tells me that the file system is corrupt. 3 It seems to only with newer games.

May be a corrupt file in the game, or any dlc for the game, or a bad spot on your hdd.

I believe your ranking is online, so you should have it there, and you can always make a back up of your save data on a usb device just in case and re-install it if there are any issues.

Sorry to hear about your issues. If try this and it doesn't help, it may be that your hdd has a bad sector or your graphics chip is coming loose. How old is your system?

Is that the only game that happens with? And did you try entering the safe mode like in the video above and reseting the file system?

IT can be tricky to get it there but all models have this feature, start with it off, hold it till it beeps three times and shuts back off then do it again and let go after the first beep

I would try resetting the data base first without, and see if it helps, but if not, then I would try deleting and game data that is messing it up then reset the database, then reinstall whatever game data you need.

Wish I could help, I am not sure what that issue is, the only thing that comes to mind is a faulty psu or a completely fried board. How old is your system?

GPU is the main chip responsible for processing game information. If it is loose or coming loose it won't communicate properly within the system and can cause multiple problems!

My Playstation is kind of doing the same thing. It cuts off whenever I'm playing games as well, but instead of just shutting down, with the red standby light on, the entire thing cuts off; not light on at all. For example, today I played Borderlands, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, and Battlefield 3 (each game for about maybe an hourish each and I'd go back to the home screen to change games just fine) and as I got about 20-30 minutes into Battlefield the entire thing just cut off. Another thing is, if I decide to cut if off manually by remote or pressing the button, the entire thing just cuts off like before; no light of any kind at all. Please help me D: I'm desperate.

Sorry brother, it has some problem I am not familiar with, I would pick up a new one and transfer my data to it, then you can sell the old one for parts. Or you can send it to sony, they will wipe your hdd however, or you can try a local computer repair shop.

I tried the process, but without doing the hard reset as shown in video. I played my affected game...NCAA football 11 for the first time in weeks to completion. The random resets have stopped.

No.You know when it freezes and says the file system might be courrpt, then it will restore the HDD etc. It did that and froze then i had to turn it off.

Could be the system overheating, does the fan start running real hard before it shuts down, is there an unusual amount of heat around it after it shuts down?

i basically have the same problem but im not sure if its identically the same. i think its due to overheating but every time it turns off and i turn it back on i am presented with the rebuild storage option and after about a minute it finishes and everything is back to normal. its really hard to play games when at the back of your mind you know it may turn off. and the reason why i say it may be overheating is because i downloaded a game for 5 hours then played for a bit and it happened. HELP ME

It only happens when playing the actual game, I just bought Madden (for example) and I can edit teams and do a draft and things like that, but when I go to play a game, it starts to show the stadium (to start the game) then it crashes and you see it blink in the top right quickly that the system is overheated (fan goes into hyper mode as the game is loading up) then it shuts down when the game starts up. It did the same thing for MLB the show, Tiger Woods didn't have a problem though...I dunno

I did this for Killzone 3...deleted the game data restored filed system just like the video showed and now when I start up the game it says I have to install the latest software to play online..I hit ok it downloads but when it goes to install it says error code 80029564....plz help :(

I only have had 3 games On this system I got 2 when I bought it didnt like them and it turned off in the middle returned them and got gta 4 tried ur trick except the secret menu couldnt do it because I have a knock of corded controller and dual shock is reauired

mines been stuck on trying to restore it and if i do it gets to 47% very slowly then says “problem occurred please format your drive” anyway to get out of this and trying to do it safe mode just stays on “Preforming please wait” or other options freeze

I have never encountered an "overheated" message, when and how is this displayed? If it is truly overheating, then it could be the psu is going bad, or the fan is not working properly or a combination of the two causing overheating. If it is something else it could be the gaming processor is loose or malfunctioning and you need to reflow the board.

yea i did that, but theres a new problem now just found out yesterday, my friend's ps3 could load and play resident evil 5, but not mine..when i plug in the HDMI cable and try to load the game, it shuts off, but if im using the regular cable, it works perfectly fine, and yes only this game does that when i use the HDMI cable, my friend said that i may have messed up a setting for the video from the console??????

I will try yr method later this weekend when i am free from my day job. I hardly play and my ps3 slim is only 2 yrs plus. I only play when blockbuster games such as metal gear, devil may cry came out. Other than that, i hardly play due to job commitments. I was thinking of getting MGS revengeance this weekend but now i can only pray i can get the ps3 back to life. Btw, may i know what the difference between this 2 options available in safe mode? Restore default settings and Restore PS3 system?

There may be something loose, or worn out inside that those games need to utilize that Fifa doesn't. You may want to get a new one, transfer your data and then trade the old one into gamestop (they still give credit for defective systems) or sell it on ebay. Jesus bless you and good gaming!

Depends does it shut down only during games? If so it could be an issue with the game processing unit becoming detached, but if it is at any time it may be a corrupt file in the os or a psu issue. Watched your video, seems like there is something wrong with the fan, or the system that controls the fan, the fan is only supposed to run that hard during the fan test mode, how long have you had it?

Man that sucks, the only "possible" fix I can think of is swapping out the hard drive, and there is no guarantee that it will work, but if you want to try it, I have a back up and transfer video in my ps3 playlist. Jesus bless you and good gaming!

It happened to me as well, so what you gotta do is put ur ps3 on Safe Mode, and try the 1st option RESTART YOUR PS3. If that doesnt work, put it on safe mode again a click the 5th option RESTORE PS3 SYSTEM. Youll lose all ur data, music, videos, etc. but it'll start workin again. It worked on my
