Pro tip: dont pull the plastic piece of the power cable connector with the cable. Its a booger to put back on without bending the pins. Also when plugging the dvd drive cable back in underneath, its easier to hold your hand palm face down and use index middle finger to grab ribbon cable to plug in then push black piece down to secure it. Also, also, dont forget to plug the fan back in. Dont ask me how I know

Edit: I figured out why I couldn't get my PS3 back together. It seemed like the lid was just too tight to completely latch, and I suspected it was the disc drive because it looked like it wasn't level. Turns out it was the power button. My model must be slightly different from the one you used in this video, because the power button was blocking my disc drive from seating properly in the front. I removed the power button, put the disc drive back down, and then installed the power button and it closed perfectly. So for those of you who are having trouble with getting the shell to close properly, try installing the disc drive before the power button! I can not get the top shell back on no matter what I do. One of the teeth just won't clamp down for some reason

Now I'm digging through videos looking for a clear image of the shield - of my particular model - so I can finally reassemble and hopefully be able to watch a G$DD&?N BLURAY. I'm a proud owner of a PS3 Slim (model CECH-2504A) that I purchased last year and I would like to change the thermal paste. So I have a few questions: 1) 06:23 - How did you remove the old thermal paste? Would you recommend using isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab for the job? 2) 07:18 - Some people apply the thermal paste in a "X" shape, while you apply in a sort of "M" and then spreads evenly in the surface area. Do you think the method of applying the thermal paste makes a difference in the final temperature? Thank you for the video and help!

I recently bought a never used CECH-2001A PS3 slim in mint condition still in its original box and everything. I’ve already opened it up to replace the dead CMOS battery due to years of not being used. I’m a bit hesitant on going further, should I just toughen up and re paste it? The manufacture date on it is June 2009.. so surely it’s in need of new paste? The paste goes bad wether it’s been used or not, right? Arctic MX4 or silver 5? Thoughts?

Once I turned it off and let it cool, I took it apart and the majority of the paste wasn't even on the apu at all. I cleaned it up, and this time I did what I always do which is the spread method and it sounds a lot better. nice vidio but unfortunately it isn't a total thermal paste replacement vid. those two squares you're applying thermal compound on are definitely important but what isn't obvious is that that those are metal plates that go over the GPU and CPU, their is a tuff to remove silicon under it(which keeps it in place) and thermal paste to which is what is on the die hidden under those thermal conducting plates should also be repasted as well, if you have the tools to do so. This can cause it to still overheat if bad enough. BUT for most people i recommend only applying were fastteck applies his paste as the thermal conducting plates(IHS) are tricky to remove with ought causing damage to the CPU and GPU.

Can anyone help? I changed the thermal paste on my Play 3 Slim. I assembled everything, turned it on, there is sound image, Bluetooth and internet, but .... the Power and reset lights do not appear, strange is that the power and reset buttons work but the indicator leds do not 🤔

Check flex ribbon cable. You may noticed that pins are being worn out or even have its blue plastic parts tore off from the flex cable.

I noticed my PS3 running a bit hot lately and I had some thermal paste lying around, so I thought why not. The inside of my PS3 Slim was a bit different (I didnt have the ribbon cable on the bottom of the blu-ray drive for example), but most of it was the same. Old thermal paste was on there since 2009 I think. Now it's pretty much dead silent when in the XMB. Thanks a lot for the great guide!

I think the hardest part in this is disc drive.... Itas a B***H to get back on, especially first time. Taking apart cosole and cleaning - 40 mins while putting back disc drive 2 hours..... then like 7 minutes of reasembling the rest

Thank you. Im about to bust my jailbroken slim back out. Hasnt been opened since launch, so i know im gonna need to dust, and after 10+ years fresh pate would def do it justice. Sure it aint the most powerful system, but it was a fun console with many great memeories, but after 10+ year old dust and paste, it sounds like a fucking jet engine lmao.
