Fix for spinning problem.
Just try this before you pay much money for repair! :)

GTA 5 iss avery large game. That combined with the ps3 have very little ram forces the disk to spin a lot..

This is actually a fix....Right when you hear the bumping sound (which is like 5 seconds after you insert the game....Take off the circle thing and put it back on after a second

this method does work maybe not for everyone but Patience. If this didn't work try holding eject button on PS3 until blue light starts blinking wait for it to stop,then try a game. Still not working try cleaning laser off n dust in ps3 drive. When putting a CD in tilt ps3 back method known to work sometimes

Mine doesn't even want to spin. I tried to spin it by myself. That made it spin itself, but now every time I try do to this, it doesn't work. Also even if the disc was spinning it couldn't be recognized due to laser doesn't even want to light -.-.. It's so dumb, it tries to load, but it's too lazy to load.

I have currently this issue on my Ps3 Slim model cech-2001A. I have ordered a new laser to replace and hopefully fix my issue. My ps3 only reads CD and DVD based format disc. So the problem was the blueray laser. The spinning problem is just that, it's trying to read the disc but the laser design to read that specific disc, it will try to read it as a DVD or cd, hence why it spins for a bit. I will update you all as soon as I get the part and replace it.

UPDATE: I know this is late but i had forgotten that I posted on this video, yes it was a dead laser and you will have to replace it. Just be careful when you replace the laser and not fuck up the assembly of the blueray drive. If requested I could make a video on how to properly replace a laser on ps3.

For me it was Dark souls 2 I was playing when there was a red phantom that was completely invisible, I used the bonfire to go back to majula and when it was loading the game froze, so I restarted the ps3 then no games would play, except ones I have fully downloaded onto the system itself. I tried this, the tilting method and the shaking method, and nothing has worked for me.

Second you have to do that EVERYTIME you change a disc. Just spend the $50 - $100 and get someone to replace the laser. It is so much less painful then this.

You mean to tell me I took apart my ps3 when I had the right tool but now I don't have that tool and I can't take it apart again and all I had to do was that? I literally took apart my ps3 when I finally found the tool to get those stupid little black screws under the front of the ps3 out and I tried cleaning the laser and some other fixes and all I really needed to do was move that little piece around until it sat just right. Wow. now I have to wait a few weeks just to get the tool I am missing back.

Just get a tiny flat head screw driver and put it in the side of the bolt and turn worked for me

Mine has this same issue, but it does eventually read the disc. Can just take 2-5 min. And once it does read a disc. If i take it out after playting and do another, it reads it right away. Thinking I may get the lens cleaner as that could be a cause too. Thoughts? I am not too great w electronics so I don't want to take it apart myself..

I just took my drive and got all of the dust out cleaned the lens down loaded the latest up date and now my ps3 works fine.

Yea it gets the disc spinning and even reads the title page of the game but nothing further. Also when you switch games it will do the same thing again. I tryed two different drives and two different lasers on both drives and mine continues to do the same thing as in the video.

Hi, my slim ps, like yours does read the CD at fisrt, but later in the game will be blank, and if i take the cd out and put it in again it wont read it at all it will just make noise, so the problem will be the same or do i have to change it to a new reader ? sorry for my english, i really need your help. I'm having a similar problem but I've never played GTAV. I was playing Mass Effect 3the other night and next day when I turned on my console and inserted the game disc the PS3 made that exact same sound I ejected it and put another one in, didn't make the sound again but it won't spin and would not read any discs anymore. if you pause at 4sec you can see something is an oval shape (in the bottom middle) on my ps3 after cleaning my lens a white knob popped up and fit in there so I cant put in my games. Any idea how to get this down?

that sounds just like my problem. game starts playing, then it starts making a noise like its having trouble moving back and forth to read the disc. so the game will freeze when it changes to next stage, or if online playing bf4, the guns and gone and all other players are invisible except their names. so I took it apart , propped up the tray, and ran my games. no problems but it doesn't solve why it happens when I put it all back together :-(

***** Well, GTA V is a HUGE game that requires constant loading from the disc. Combine this with very low RAM of the consoles and with flying missions where you fly low to the ground and high quality textures have to load over and over again each time, and you are now asking for way more reads from the drive. Compare this to say FIFA which loads a game once at the beginning and then the disc basically spins slowly doing minimal work and creating less heat. Obviously the fully downloadable version on the HDD wouldn't give this problem. I've had the same thing happen on PS2 with GTA:SA.

+xFluffyMods the laser. I have this same problem and you have is a dying laser. I just ordered mine on ebay. You can replace it but I do suggest you look up a video on it and try not to mess with the blue ray driver moder.
