I read all 400+ comments and some said it was in "preparing...please wait" for 53 hours to 8 days, others say to be patient, but never give specifics. I have tried 2 Restore Default Settings - it freezes at "restoring default settings do not turn off system" 3 Restore File System - it freezes at "preparing, please wait" 4 Rebuild Database - it also freezes at "preparing, please wait." 6 System Update - it freezes when I press x So I am left with deleting all of my PS1 and 3 data for Option 5 "Restore PS3 System". I literally worked my ass off to unlock Dr B and everyone in Tekken 3. DAMMIT!!

And I even tried downloading the 4.88 file from the site, which didn't download, so I went to a secondary site and downloaded it as USB/PS3/UPDATE.PUP And...SONOFABITCH!!! They actually misspelled it. It should have been labeled as "PS3UPDAT.PUP". It's missing the "E"!!! I had to rename it because the secondary file had a 488 on it. Damn...I literally just destroyed my PlayStation because some asshole included the typo. And this is literally after I just fixed my PS4 using the USB file known as "PS4UPDATE.PUP" I honestly don't think it would have mattered though. Fix & Replace on the site has a delay message and redirects you to the 488 Update and the PS3 store went down I believe. Good luck to whoever is out there.

Thanks sooo much dude, I played BF3 and it suddenly crashed I freaked out and restarted it and several attempts later my ps3 still didn't turn on and had a black screen so I followed your steps and got it working again I had to do it blindly cause I couldn't see anything , so thanks so much again! ;)

Hey thanks bro!! I just downloaded the most recent patch of as this date 01-30-14 for BF4 & it wouldn't load. I called EA and that didn't fix it either after 45 minutes on the phone with their tech support. I started searching online and couldn't find anything that mentioned fixing this. I did the restore file system & rebuild database & whola it fixed it!!! I'm sure my system badly needed this since I had never done it. The damn screen @ 4:07 has been the same for me over 12hours both with Restore File sytem & Rebuild Database.Does it mean there is no way in Heaven&Hell for me to recover my ps3 data so I could try and do a data transfer? An answer would be highly appreciated. After almost 8years my 250gb ps3 had the YLOD but it still worked for almost a month & played fine,after attempts to switch it on. It hurts me that I was going to buy a new 500gb model to backup the saved game data and my ps3 got corrupted 2days before the purchase.

To all who have the same problem as I did,I am sorry but I took it to a friend who works at Forestals and with great REGRET the system had to be restored with option5. The ps3 was corrupted in such a way that even by attempting extracting the data from the hard-drive it was unreadable. All saved data on the system was lost, however if you guys are concerned about online data,they aren't erased because they are saved on the game's servers examples The Last of Us,Destiny,GTA.... Friendly reminder to those who have access to "Account Management" on the system remember to DEACTIVATE the ps3 recognition when it uplinks to the internet otherwise you will end up with ONLY 1 remaining psn account availability. A PSN username can only be used/active on 2 separate consoles,should you be very unlucky and 2 different ps3 consoles with you gaming account got corrupted your 3rd attempt of using your PS3 username are probable that they won't give you access to it.

abcdef 1st make a new username side-account on the ps3 being used by you,and start any game you are having problems updating on your main account and see if the upload on the sideaccount goes smoothly. If this side-account game upload succeeds your games on the Main account will be updated as well. However if your games that need the update are downloaded games via the PSN the error is coming from server connection.

u should not take out the cable if u want to off the ps3 just press power button cuz if u take out the cable something bad will happen and when it says the system wasn't turned off correctly last time press no and do not take out cable again

Um, well Rebuild Database is when say your PS3 doesnt shut off right and leaves some corrupted data, it may or may not fix this data, in any case you can delete if its unfixable - and Restore Filesystem is just like Defragging a computer.

It fixed the problem on my ps3. The problem was when I put a blueray movie disk from red box it would intermediately lock up during the playback in the previews. During playback in the move, sometimes if I push rewind to what I missed then play, there would be video but no audio then the screen goes black in a couple of seconds then I have to restart the system. I noticed when I"m on netflix, when I scroll through the titles it hang for a second while scrolling I see the hard drive light on. It the first time I ever went to the safe mode and rebuild the database on my ps3 since I bought it new. I did put a new hard drive in my ps3. Stock was a 160gb Hitachi which I put in my old macbook. to a 320gb 5400 Western Digital. that when it started happening. Now when if I put a new hard drive in my ps3 in the future, I will restore my backup then run the ps3 into safe mode then rebuild the database. Thanks very much It really solved my ps3 problem. I fixed mine. What seemed to work for me was system restore INSTEAD of rebuilding database (the guy explains the differences in the video) I got there through the whole holding down the button thing at first but my controller was not recognized anymore??? So...I kept trying...turning it on and off unplugging dint know what I was doing and the Ps3 screen popped up saying something like "didn't turn off properly, we're gonna go ahead and do system restore" which was faster dint freeze.

Rebuilding database will delete songs and backed up trophies but they will all come back and also fixing bugs and glitches.
