PS3B - Conservation of Energy and Energy Transfer

Paul Andersen explains how energy is conserved within a system. In both macroscopic and microscopic collisions the amount of energy before the collision is equal to the amount after. He then defines heat as energy transfer between objects with different temperatures. He explains how heat is transferred via conduction, convection and radiation. A teaching progression K-12 is also included.

Hi Paul, When I computed the work done in pool the white mother ball break the 15ball. The energy brought OUT is more than the energy brought IN. Let’s try to compute. F = 30lbs approximately; D = 3ft SOLVE FOR ENERGY IN W = F X D; W = 30lbs x 3ft = 90ft.lb. ENERGY IN SOLVE FOR ENERGY OUT First two ball extreme corner of the billiard ball 2 out of 15 ball W = F X D; W = 30lbs x 3ft = 90ft.lb X 2ball = 180ft.lb. The remaining ball (13pcs ball) can produce more than 90ft.lb. so the theory of conservation of energy is misconception. Appreciated for your reply Thank you. Abel Urbina
