credit where its due. fair play to the customer removing a HDMI port while leaving its attachment posts soldered to the board while also not damaging any of the 19 pads. i couldn't do that if i tried.
@redbaron68052 жыл бұрын
In some cases, you can do that by simply cutting off the old connector and all its pins. Then using an iron, de-solder and remove the pins one by one. If you are not planning on re-using the old connector, you can destroy it to save the board. This makes removal far easier and requires far less heat, along with far less chances of damaging the pads. I used to do this all the time when doing soldering repairs on customer units. Destroying the old component you were not using anyways made the job a lot easier.
@eloimis1012 жыл бұрын
he knew he would not be able to heat the shole thing so he cut the shield carefully and then managed to remove the connector not bad he could have removed them with low melt and installed the new conenctor with drag soldering.

It looks easy, yes, but despite this, if you don't have the correct equipment and tools etc, you can bugger it up very quickly as demonstrated here. How on Earth do you snap all four legs off the the connector ??? This is a clear example of someone who has no clue and even moreso, no business fiddling with such a device. Go figure... I still am not sure how that low-melt sorcery works. I mean a blob of unleaded solder must resist external liquid, unless it is a reaction like the aluminium-gallium sort of thing.
@michaelbranson36532 жыл бұрын
The unleaded alone has an incredibly high melting point. The low melt has no problem blending right in to the unleaded to bring down the overall melting point to where you can desolder a component without destroying it or the pads on the board. The key word there is "desolder" because that's the only reason you should use it. A little bit goes a long way and you'll need to make sure to wick that blend away before soldering anything back in.
@Elektronikreparatur_Annaberg-B2 жыл бұрын
No, it builds an alloy or some say an amalgam. Usually it's an alloy with Bismuth, Silver and Tin, while heating its mixing with the unleaded and builds new alloy with new properties

...and it's really magic! I've been using it for about a year and I'm still amazed on how well it works. Sometimes the parts fall without even hot air (just touching with the soldering iron).
