I cannot express how much I LOVE this video. I just disassembled my second dualsense to replace the thumbsticks and this makes it soooooo easy. Word of advice though, when rescrewing the battery housing DON'T make the screw as tight as possible if u are replacing the left stick. That extra tension will result in your replacement stick not automatically resetting to neutral when you release it. Leaving it just firm enough for it to snap back but not loose enough the housing of the battery moves when the controller rumbles is key. Also some of the components in never dualsense controllers look a little different than the one in this vid but disassembly and reassembly work the same way

Thanks for the video instructions! My purchase arrived today and I had the new thumbsticks on within a half hour! Definitely would recommend using a small flathead screwdriver for the 3:00 take apart. Gently pry with it, especially towards the top of the controller. The little blue tool wasn't quite enough to get it done for mine at that part. But all in all, it's a great step by step video on what to do!

My experience opening the dualsense for the first time: Do not use metal tools, it will damage the plastic. Use plastic flat tools only. 0:54 - The black panel was very hard to remove. Not a single flat tool was able to get in the middle between the two parts. What worked for me was pulling the black part a little with the thumb until I was able to create a gap for the flat tool to get inside. After it detached, it comes out very easy. 3:07 - The white back cover is also really hard to remove. There are big clips at the top part near the R2 and L2 buttons. I couldn't take it out with tools. What I did: The bottom part clips comes out very easy, you grab the bottom part that is detached and push the cover UP, in the R2 and L2 direction, you might need a little strenght but the big clips on the top will detach at the same time. Remove it from there is easy 4:38 - By far the hardest one to take out. What I did: removed ALL flat cables before this one, this makes the motherboard very loose. I pushed the motherboard out a little with the help of the thumbstick. Pulling the motherboard up a little helps creating more surface so you can pull the thing easier. But it will still be hard. For the other flat cables, just wiggle them a bit, they come out very easy.

@@reecetibey1466 my gf bought me a controller for Christmas so I’ve been using that. But I guess it depends how much you value your time, if you have the patience and time then replace it, if you don’t wanna deal with it then the new controller might be your move.

Gotta say this is an excellent video. It worked great on my install. One thing worth noting is I used the metal joystick and you really have to force them in. Like felt like something would snap but they will pop on. Thank you.

3:09 those clips are really strong and broke my plastic tool. You might want to consider CAREFULLY using a flathead screwdriver or butter knife. They really fight ya

I just tried replacing mine but they aren't working properly, after I installed I wiggled them and they felt fine but after putting face plate back on they don't move back to their original positions after I move them. I put the originals back on no issues so it's not me

I could not reattach those tiny flex cables at the bottom. The second one came off, and I don't know where it was connected. Another video said it was just the microphone, which I don't use. I'm going to try putting it back together without the cable. I might just need to buy a new controller. 😢

I had the same issue with the left thumbstick, so had to switch back to the original thumbsticks. The quality of the material is really poor, I guess the problem is with the friction. They dont fit to the controller as easy as the original ones.

Just put them on, it's more of a molded/textured plastic than rubber skin, so not as grippy but I expect it will last longer as it won't tear like the rubber

What a pain this is! Finally replaced my knobs and got everything back together and now the buttons don’t work properly. Sony should have used better material that isn’t made to fall apart. I see the new dualsense edge controller has easy to replace knobs of course….

SOMEONE HELP PLS. Does anyone know if my scuf sticks I have from my scuf impact(PS4 version) would work with my PS5 controller? I'm not buying the new PS5 scuf right now, if ever. The price is insane and they took over a year to release it. I'm really hoping that PS just comes out with a back button attachment for DS5 just like they did DS4. Please help me i installed the magnet version along with ammo metal buttons and rise remap kit on my Dualsense. I really love the material however the thumbsticks are sticky and gripping and move really slowly. I need a solution to fix this problem.

If you have short nails and stubby fingers like i am, use small pointy pliers or at least tweezers, its hard to grasp firmly those plastic electric tapes. And grab it by handles, not a tape itself
