A group of friends who although have various consoles, prefer pc, were trying to talk me into getting a gaming pc... Only to then start discussing between them how the ps5 to pro graphics upgrade would cost about £600 on pc, plus the memory upgrade, is all about the price of the Pro... I almost don't want the people that keep complaining about the price and lack of disc drive to also get the benefits of years of developers experience and enhanced backwards compatible PS5 games when they will buy their PS6 :) They should actually thank the people that buy the PS5 Pro because its success is only benefitting them in the future.

@@IsraTheBlack Time will tell but I doubt it because PS6 will be aimed at the masses and will be sold subsidised (like the PS4 and the PS5 were at launch), unlike the the PS5 Pro which is sold at cost or maybe a little profit. Will it be more expensive than the PS5 at launch though? Yeah probably, because console prices have gone up every generation + inflation + the prices of parts mostly sourced by outside companies. Consoles used to be propriety tech but not anymore so prices are made up by other companies. The PS5 with discdrive was $500 at launch, $600 corrected for inflation (yes in just 4 years). I'd guess the PS6 will cost $600-650 at launch for the base (digital only) model.

No one really talked trash about the hardware itself, but the lack of new software that nearly 4 years in, still hasn't really kicked off to a noticeable degree. The strengths of the PS5 are being able to play older titles at 60 FPS, but when it comes to newer games, you can find 99% of them on PC or coming to PC, making a console like the PS5 less of a desirable option. Yes, a well performing PC will be more expensive overall, but you get a whole lot more without the same barriers to entry like console has had for many years, not to mention decades of emulation that only keeps getting better and fan made remasters of old games like Silent Hill 2 that you can't find on console, at all.

Linus is the most pro PC person ever, and he already said if you wanted to build something equivalent to the PS5 pro, you would have to spend a little over $1,000 to get the same type of performance. The problem is, most of us have only had a PS5 for a few years and we're not ready to move on.

That's because the Pro is built by a company building them in bulk. This affords them lower prices. Say a custom PC builder existed that builds in bulk under a label that is marketed in the same way, then that $1000 would manage to outperform the PS5 Pro. Don't get me wrong the PS5 in all is great hardware, but seeing as it is Sony behind it, makes me absolutely hate it.

There is the option to trade in your current ps5 disc version at gamestop for $300-$350. Putting the pro at half price. For me tho i got the original 1st batch release of ps5. Mines crashing more often and older now, so an upgrade is fine by me. Plus i want the best graphics for gta6.

People are downvoting, but as someone who’s now into PC gaming, with how INSANE GPU prices are, the PS5 Pro actually looks "convenient" at its steep price point. Current-gen gaming, in general, has become absurdly expensive-so much so that no responsible adult should be participating anymore. I won't buy another console, and I mostly use my PC for work, but I think the backlash comes mainly from people who were blindsided by the price hike. Those of us used to tracking GPU and CPU prices saw this coming.

Relatable. During PS4 time, I slowly hated turning on my system to the point when I didn’t want to anymore. I felt scammed. Games that I would pay $60 for would be free or on sale 80% off a month or 2 later. PS Plus charging me monthly and I would log in just to see what the deals were. Never interested because why would I pay for 1 game that is essentially free with a monthly service with countless others. But then your subsciption is over- no games to play. PS Store rarely offers deals. When they do, they act like they are doing you a favor- when you look up a physical copy the game is selling for WAY CHEAPER at other distributors. Paying those prices for a digital version that’s locked if you ever wanted to play on a different account. Some games transfer to other accounts on the system others don’t. The initial PS5 released and it seemed lackluster value for the price. Everyone I know moving on to get it and I’m sitting there like I guess I’m done gaming now. Maybe PS5 pro will inspire something.

When the PS5 was about to launch, given the GPU prices, everyone was expecting a console price of at least 600 usd, then the price was really convenient and something to consider for even a PC owner. Now with the Pro, I just think that, of course it’s not everyone, but it actually has a market, also, the PS4 Pro wasn’t needed, but was accepted too. This will sell well amongst fans and some PC enthusiasts.

Meanwhile you can buy a pre-built $800 PC that will match and in some titles out perform the PS5 Pro. And that has an actual path to meaningful upgrades that you can't do with any console. I can't 4 years down the road, just buy a new GPU and/or CPU for a console. Lets do a price breakdown.... Note: This is in reference to Day 1 PS5 owners who are upgrading and we will only reference digital versions and ignore the disc drive. * PS5: $500 * PSPlus Premium: $640 ($160/Year for 4 Years) * PS5 Pro: $700 * PS5 Trade in Value: -$200 (MAX) * Total: $1840 - $200 (Trade in) = $1640 For $1640 you can buy a far superior PC and that price is going to increase another $320-$480 (PSPlus Premium) in the span of time before the PS6 releases. And in that 4 year time frame, PS has been porting nearly every exclusive to PC and what isn't ported is getting emulators made. And lets be frank about it, there are nearly NO First Party PS5 exclusive titles, most are remastered PS4 games and the rest are third party products. And large Xbox titles like Gears of War E-Day and the new Fable will be available on PC day 1, not to mention most 3rd party PS5 titles are now shipping day 1 on PC as well.

Deff underpowered the generation consoles..PSSR is needed to help lower cost and the need for brute power gpus, which is game changer.. PC gaming always has new tech or mods coming out keeping gamers on entry-level gpus like 3060 or 4060 punching heavy above their weight using Dlss and frame generation/MODS or even using lossless scaling for doubling FPS.. PSSR is the first step and good direction for console. Im not sure if the console supports frame generation yet, but Sony needs to stay in the game or get left behind. we were upset with low fps and blurry games with ps5, but some games were great too.

The hilarious part is, that all the new advancements of the PS5 Pro, are what the base PS5 was supposed to not only possess, but actually perfect. 4K 60 FPS is the standard in gaming, and releasing a new console for that is actually a diabolically absurd “Cash Grab”. When the PS4 Pro was unveiled, it was said to offer 4K and 60 FPS. Expecting them both at the same time, would have been a Hercules optimism. Developers working on gameplay of 4K 30 FPS, or 1440p at 60 FPS, was the more appropriate performance for that console. The PS5 being unveiled to offer 4K and 120 FPS was the greatest thing in console history ever. I again repeat that no one actually expected those two features to be rendered at the same time, but we were at least supposed to play titles at either 1440p 120 FPS, or Native 4K at 60 FPS. Sony releasing a new console for that is nothing but a sad daylight robbery. To make matters worse, they are still not offering that upgrade at Native Graphics, but are rather relying on their new PSSR (which is a fancy way of saying AI upscaling) to achieve them. I am a massive Sony PlayStation supporter, who not only possesses every console that they have ever released, but who also speaks for them in every statement devised against them. However, this is just deception on another level.🙂‍↔️

Essentially, at that time, it was going to be impossible for them to enable both features at the same time, but they knew that in the immediate future that was in the horizon, they were going to improve their specifications. That was seen with the birth of the PS5. I simply do not understand what is hard to comprehend about that. I uttered so many times, that I too, am a humongous Sony PlayStation supporter, but watching my favourite company scam me (after I have supported them for so long), is what I will not tolerate. How are lads comfortable with the fact that the PS5 has Native 4K and 120 FPS capabilities, but it was still unable to deliver 4K at 60 FPS. If we personified Graphics cards, I am sure that they would inform us of how they do that with their eyes closed. I am not expecting the PS5 to enable 4K at 120 FPS, for that is probably a PS6 feature, but 4K 60 FPS is basic mate. If you wish to proceed with being deceived by Sony’s lies, you are more than welcome to do so. However, I will not tolerate such behaviour.

My initial reaction to the PS5 Pro was that sounds cool but I don't need it, then I saw they were still available for preorder later in the day when they were released. So I preordered one to see if it was true or if the site was still broken, as I'd tried to get a 30th anniversary controller earlier but couldn't. To my surprise I got a preorder & over the next week or so slowly began coming around on the idea of keeping it, especially with the new information coming out. Also the Ghost of Yotei announcement really helped me be happy with my decision. I do have a gaming pc that'd be equivalent or better, but I just prefer the simplicity of console gaming as it maximizes my gaming time. Meaning I get to play more vs problem solve more, which I do daily for work & any family members. I wonder if the high price point combined with a proper amount of stock actually deterred enough scalpers that those who wanted one were able to easily get one? No way to know for sure, but the ease of which I got one compared to the base PS5 was appreciated.

I know the Pro is absolutely a great system, the question is how much of its power will actually be used by developers. Especially for PSVR2 which is usually more based on the processor and not the graphics card. It "may" allow for better frame rates with no RP but that's up to the Devs to make that happen. Probably all of its power and that coming from one that won't buy it cause 1000 euro are madness for a midgen GPU upgrade. I mean the console has a 30-40% stronger GPU, PS4 Pro had 2,2 times faster GPU than PS4. In the end it will be similiar, cause it has better upscaling and better RT, but thats not that much more power, devs will use that in an instant. The question is if they will use it wisely. PS4 Pro prices did fall relatively fast, i will reconsider it if the price comes down and if i really need it then.

I got my pre order in. 50 dollars down and 25 dollars to renew my GameStop pro membership to secure the pre order (that part was kinda lame tbh). To be honest its even a shame the game looks that blurry on PS5, the open world doesn't look that demanding imo, don't know what SE made wrong with this game. I bought PS4 Pro when the price fell deep after 1-2 years and then sold my PS4 when prices went up a bit, i paid just an upgrade of 50 bucks then, thats great for getting new controller. For me its not worth the high price atm and i wait for Switch 2 too, but if i had a big TV and was an extreme Fan of FF who knows, why not? have fun with it. I swear on my life my ps5 has been running slower with loading the last month. About a month ago. I ran a defrag and wiped my games and redownloaded, cleaned out the ps5 and it still is slower. Asked 2 of my friends and they said there’s was running slower with load times and performance. I wonder if there isn’t some behind the scenes work being done so people upgrade. It's not that strange, depending on how you look at it. PS4 Pro was like 30% more expensive than the regular PS4, while the PS5 Pro costs basically twice as much as the PS5 if you also add the disc drive (which is a must for me and many others). Given how the prices of GPUs for PC have skyrocketed these last few years, it's not really weird that we're getting a larger than usual price increase, but I think many were still shocked by the magnitude of it in comparison to what we've seen on the console market before.

For a console it absolutely is, they all are this generation. Using US pricing, if one wanted the entire kit, your looking at $800, for another $200, one could get a PC that is better at gaming and has an upgrade path, and does way more than gaming. That is the problem I think Sony has with the pricing, and I've been a Sony fan for a long time. IMO, the upgrade is not nearly good enough, as the CPU is still the component that is the weak link. I would have much rather have seen Sony put all this R&D in to PS6, release it in 2026 and usher in a new generation, sooner than later. I am thinking we will have another 2 years of cross-gen titles next generation, so it is not like the PS5 wouldn't be supported until 2028 anyway. 8 years is way to long for a console generation, in this day and age of advancements, and a $700 mid-gen refresh seems the wrong strategy. Just my opinion, I'm sure I'll get crucified by some for not sharing the narrative of some Sony fans.

I like consoles. I like simplicity and plug-and-play. I find the "just get a pc over a pro" argument interesting. People think the Pro is too costly. Solution? Spend even MORE to get a decent gaming pc. Maybe even a lot more. Will it last longer, do more, run better? Sure. Is it a better value? Not necessarily. I'm hoping to get at least 4 years out of my Pro. Its cost, offset by what I'll sell my current system for, is maybe $100 a year. I'm fine with that. Will the CPU bottleneck? Maybe. Will it look fantastic on my 77" C2? Hell yeah it will. :)

I own the 7900 XTX myself.. but Consoles are usually sold at a loss and for the masses, but with the changes in this machine, ditching the disc drive and the stand, and adding 1tb, its not worth 80% more. Its roughly 50% more performance for 80% price hike. SSD prices have been cut in half in the past 5 years for the same space.. Consoles are consoles because of the price. And considering this is the ultimate ps5, it should come with all the features. Thats why there's all the backlash.

It will be a noticable difference in most games, if not every game. The PS5 Pro absolutely makes a significant difference with many games. The difference doesn’t show well in static images and KZbin videos as it’s most evident with visual quality at higher frame rates which changes the experience noticeably. The Pro will please those that care about that and can afford it. Point is those same games still look and play well on the PS5 OG, and it’s still Sony’s main console. No one needs the Pro, it’s a premium upgrade for a group of niche gamers. Why it offends and infuriates a (very vocal) group of gamers who are not in any way impacted by it says much about them. They hate, so you must too, until they get one. Then you must also get or you suck.

Let’s start with this. I i have ordered PS5 pro. Back when the Ps5 was announced, i couldn’t get my hand on one of them because of the shortage so i ended up buying Ps4 pro. About the Ps5 pro and how it’s amazing which no one could tell until ppl got their hands on one of them and test, the announcement of the Ps5 pro was terrible which made ppl focus only on the price because almost nothing really in deep was explained about the new console! I hope it really does worth the money that Sony asking for

Price will fall if you wait. PS4 Pro price fell drastically after 2 years. Sold my PS4 then and did an upgrade for like 50 bucks. That times are probably gone, but it will still get cheaper.

I agree. Ill be buying 1 only to test its optimisation for a review. I still think sony messed up a lot on the original ps5 release. It paved the way for scalpers online. They went from ps5s to hot tubs to graphics cards. If sony had just sold the OG ps5 for a couple hundred more, and with guaranteed pre order pricing like they did with the pro, it could have been made less expensive, and the mess wouldnt be near as bad.

I would love to buy a PC that can, without any issue, play games at PS5 / Pro level. But this will cost me way above 1000 dollars + peripherals (smaller screen, keyboard, mouse, desk). I love the flexibility of the PC (mods, all games available, old to brand new) but I cannot justify paying up to 2000 for the whole package when my gaming lib is already on PlayStation… so the PRO seems like a great deal when you want to have the best new shiny thing …

It is a large one time purchase to get the right hardware now, sure. HOwever, you can upgrade for a decade, and still be well ahead of the consoles in hardware performance. And have access to a lot more games on PC as well. I was a hardcore console only gamer, but as of late, not anymore, and not when "premium" consoles are this expensive, a PC makes all the sense in the world right now, IMO.

Im not buying PS5 pro for 2 reasons, first, PS6 isnt far away and the second is the price, yeah... its 1000 EUR (1100 dollars) in my country (860eur console and 140eur disc drive). I hope PS5 pro is good, becouse then PS6 will be even way better. Atleast if it goes same way as ps4 pro vs PS5. Honestly on paper PS5 pro looks like everything i would ever need for gaming, but yeah.... i will wait till PS6 or if sony does something REALLY REALLY stupid by then, switch to PC. Miss them FPS Shooters.

PS4 Pro was 2,2 times faster than PS4. Its a nice little GPU Upgrade with better RT and upscaling, but no next gen console, far from it. If thats worth 1000 Euro for him is his decision. For me its not, i can play the same games on PS5 and have plenty of time to wait until the price halves, which could be within the next two years, if i really need it then. PS4 Pro prices did fall fast. Sony isn't stupid with the disc drive though, even if the price falls people have to buy that seperately.

Congrats for sony their PlayStation Pro! Something that I still don't get though. Why the $700 price tag? You have to think of it this way. Yes, initially the technology is "newer" than the Old Gen 5 consoles. But look at how long these consoles last, which means making all of the hardware gets cheaper year after year after year. A great example of going all in was the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 era. When those consoles came out, it made the PC gamers green with envy. They took a loss in the very beginning but understood that as time went on and the technology got older that it would be so much cheaper to build and both companies made a mass amount of revenue. The PlayStation 5 Pro has the exact same CPU that the PlayStation 5 has, so that is super cheap for them to produce. Faster ram. A bigger GPU, shouldn't be that much more expensive. It cost 450 dollars to make a PS5 4 years ago, (rumors). That old tech now? Maybe cut in half of not more. Maybe the CPU shortage and inflation, but even then...not seeing it. I feel like the customers aren't being placed first, But the shareholders are being placed first with the $700 price tag of a console that will be around for at least 4 or 5 years unless they just skip to a Sony PlayStation 6. Which if the PlayStation 5 Pro is $700 now then that means that the PlayStation 6 will be $800 or $900. They keep with the same hardware for years and years, in my opinion there is no excuse for a $700 price tag with the exception of trying to make shareholders happy with profit with every single sell. Yes, you can't really make a $700 laptop at that price point with that type of performance. Because you're only buying very limited supply of stock, but when somebody is mass-producing things it becomes so much cheaper to produce. So I just don't see $700...

For a video showcasing quality of graphics, you should avoid 1080p on youtube cause then you don't get the VP9 codec and they compress hell out of it. even if it looks great before upload, youtube will butcher it to death since they only use low quality codec there. Even if you filmed it at 1080p, throw it in resolve and upscale it to 1440p and upload it that way. you'll get far better resolve. it's actually one of biggest things that hurt sony when they showed off pro 🤣

Understand it from a youtuber view, there are lots of videos that shit on PS5 Pro and overdo it a bit, and there are some Sonyfans that will buy it anyway and have fun with it. Thats a video for them and yes it gives him easy clicks and happy Sony fans, nothing to be triggered about. The truth is somewhere in the middle, the console is not that bad, it will be a mediocre midgen jump, around the PS4 Pro jump, which is not bad. It will not be a gamechanger nor will it be next gen, but the difference will be noticable, especially on big TVs and with games that look bad on PS5 image quality wise like FF 7. For me the price is killing it in europe, 1000 bucks with discdrive is too much as im not a fan of Sony games, i play japanese RPGs and most games that come out can still be played even on PS4 lol.

Sold my PS5 this week to get money towards the pro, pre-ordered. Done this every upgrade since PS4. I lost just £100 over four years, so owning a PS5 cost me £25/year to own. That's not even factoring in that it actually only cost the difference between it's price and my PS4 Pro sale... Because these hold their value, ownership is almost free in the long run. This maths works best if you sell a few weeks before your next Day 1 release purchase and don't lag behind. The price tag is an absolute bargain when you consider pc GPU prices alone.

the CPU "is" a bottleneck though. look at games like Dragon's Dogma 2 still running bad on the PS5 Pro because of the CPU. as far as John saying Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth looks so much better. everyone knows that that was at least partly because the base PS5 version of FF7R was so poorly optimized by Square. im not sure which video it is but Digital Foundry themselves even said that the improvements to FF7R were partly because of that very reason, poor optimization on PS5. so please quit acting like FF7R is a good example of great leaps because of the PS5 Pro's power because many games run and look much better on base PS5 than FF7R. and as far as it being in demand and the best selling console at retailers. you answered your own question as to why its stupid to even bring that up. a brand new console matched up against consoles that have been out 4 years? of course the new one will be the best seller. only a fool would think otherwise.

The cpu bottleneck was because of the developers choices. Majority of games released currently have little to no issue with the cpu to push games to 60 at some sort of upscaled resolution. The pro will be afford more grunt to improve resolution for majority of game giving they had a 60 fps mode to begin with. If wukong is 60 on regular ps5 there is no excuse for developers going forward with the pro.

​@@alexbyrd138Wukong is not a steady 60 on PS5. That CPU is a 3600X equivalent, which was average by 2019's standards. Optimization on the CPU side is much more complex to manage load than GPU. As games continue to progress, developers workload will not in terms of optimization, which is why PSSR will be used as a bandaid for optimization just like DLSS. The Pro will show its age quickly, simply because they chose to stay with the average Zen 2 GPU of 2019. I have a PC (14700KF/4080S) and a PS5, and was looking forward to the Pro for exclusives (like GT7, etc.), but with that CPU, I'll sit back and watch the reviews after release. I'm no where near convinced that the CPU will not be a massive bottleneck preventing 60fps on all titles. If it does the impossible (which I doubt), I'll pick one up.

@@actionahsan3430 it constantly jumps in and out of the VRR 48-120 zone on PS5 with terrible stutters, especially on an OLED. NPC's just materialize right in front of you. I have it on both PS5 and PC, and on PS5, DD2 to me, is just a terrible experience compared to what it should play like in comparison to PC. Even more so that you have to neuter the graphics and frames still drop into the 40's (if not 30's).
