It's very clear that the game developers and graphics designers put in a ton of time and effort to make sure no detail was overlooked and the quality would be the highest as far as realism, down to the reflection in the mirrors. As a visual artist im blown away by this. As a Bike rider im still blown away by this but i think i had 10 heart attacks and im only 2 minutes into this. Speeding in the rain needs soooo much more affinity than what is being done here😅. Speeding on white lines, changing gears through a corner without at least doing some adjustments to compensate, accelerating twice in a row while cornering. I mean that rear wheel would be all over the place😂😂 Still the physics are insane and the fact that you really do feel the speed mixed with the realism of it puts this on a whole new level.

I think what makes it an illusion to feel close to reality is the shakes of the POV of the camera and the sense of speed. Higher frame rate also helps a lot as it simulates what we see.

This is Portstewart, my home town, and Portrush, where a lot of my friends lived growing up. They recreated it exactly; it's literally exactly the same as in real life. Being from Northern Ireland (yes it's a different country from Ireland (technically) and you understandably not knowing that is the point) I never thought I'd ever see this in a game. Northern Ireland has a population of just over 2M, and my hometown, just over 10k. I used to dream about playing a game here, or making one based here. To see it in a game as realistic as this is even crazier; the fucking oil in that cap on the dash moves realistically. Crazy. The kid in me is now a little more complete. The graphics and lighting and shading etc in this is exactly how it usually looks around there that time of year, too (and most of the time, unfortunately lol). Wish you guys got to see the Promenade though, that's the nicest part of Portstewart. So many happy childhood/teenage memories there -- So many all over this race route, to be honest. I see houses of old friends, old hangout spots and HQ's, memories on sidewalks -- Wow, man, what a time to be alive. For anyone interested, the race is the NW200 (North-West 200), thrown every year around May.

I think a huge reason why it looks so real is that they didn't go for "pretty" or "appealing" graphics. Real life footage is usually pretty dim and surprisingly dull, video games tend to be as bright and shiny and good looking as possible, but that doesn't often convey realism. Also looks even better in HDR, "dimmer" in a more realistic way.

As an 80's child, I remember playing 3D Death Race on my Spectrum and thinking it was the best thing ever. This just looks like reality to me. Don't know how else to describe it. Amazing.

I've been born at 90's and there was games wuth kinda of the same graphic which had a lot of squares like 8 bit. Like Tekken 3 on Playstation or on PC like GTA 3 . When I took a look at the video I believed that was the reality, at least how was drawn road, sky, lines and trees. The only thing which helped was a motorcycle bar, it could be seen that was like a graphic

One of my fav racing moments was extreme-G 3 on the gamecube: if you actually managed to get past the speed of sound (hard but doable when you get better), the sounds would vanish behind you. Attention to detail is a whole other level.

I don't agree at all, real life vision is not that shaky and fast, even if you're traveling at 160 mph. Camera movements in the game are too sudden and fast, and that's exactly why you can tell this is a game and not real life. Graphics quality instead is amazing, very realistic.

This is not live gameplay, this is gameplay, later rewatched in some sort of replay mode and then this camera mode enabled. The in game gameplay looks more stale, not any more realistic at all, just more pleasing to watch

To the lay person, this looks pretty real. Non bikers would buy this was live at Isle of Mann until the wipeout cut scene. They're not going to catch that the bars don't move on turns. Or move the wrong way. The wheel slip missing. The other bike engines silent. The hands are a little fake looking. The missing spray. There's lots of clues that it's a simulation, but still, that background, the wind and consistency on the flags waving, it's pretty damned good.

I would say the realism began with the Microsoft Flight Simulator making that a huge “wow” moment in being unbelievably too realistic, so because that was a definite step in the right direction of next gen gaming, I’m sure other gaming companies absolutely want to make games as real as possible because gaming is in the next generation now. In which realism needs to come into play.

I watched this on my Sony X900h 65" with my morning coffee and I questioned (myself) if this was a video game or actual footage. Gaming will never be able capture the visceral experience of motorcycle riding/racing, which is what makes it so good. You're not sitting in a chair, inside a compartment, partially insulated from the sensation of the experience. A bike is incomparable to a vehicle, a bike requires each part of the body to do multiple things at once in absolute harmony. The body as a whole is even a control input for the bike to function. Then there's the sound (it's loud, like LOUD.) there's the direct exposure to the environment. There's the lack of anything but the area ahead in your vision, there's the physical demands of controlling the bike which is a critical requirement, regardless of your energy levels. There's the fear making you breathe poorly and/or through your mouth, drying up your throat/airway and making you grip the bars to tight, cutting off your fingers circulation and causing them to go numb, which is never a help. There the extreme inertial forces of the bikes performance as you are not secured in by a seat and harness which hides just how intense they are, making you either stay on the ball, or fall off the bike. *Also never a good help. Not bad graphics though. And probably what soldiers think about fps games....

Graphics like this were that of pre-rendered joy back in the day... playing PS1 back in the late 90s, we couldn't wait for a game to look like the cutscenes. Then we got them... Now the games push is for realism... and they've done a decent job here. Room for improvement, clearly, but shiiiiiiiiit son, can't wait for photo realistic, proper VR, audio, movement feedback, the works. Pretty wild how far it's all come in the last 30 years. 700kb cartridges to 50+GB blurays, What's a polygon to billions of polygons. Analog RF/240i to 4K and the sounds!! Using noise generators to make percussion sounds, and less than MIDI to 7.1 dolby digital. 🤯🤯🤯
