Correct! An internal M.2 SSD will allow you to store and play PS5 games from it. An external drive, either disk or SSD, will only let you store PS5 games and then you would have to transfer the game to the internal drive to play them.

There’s a lot of variables that effects download and load times but the point is you are minimizing any bottlenecks. Your internet speed and wired vs wireless downloading makes a difference as well. But yes having an SSD with a good read and write speed will help maximize your download and load times. And you have more storage space.

Hey! So glad this helped! It’s super easy once you do it but can be tricky the first time. Easiest way to transfer games, get an external USB hard drive and transfer your ps4 games/files to it. And then plug the HD into the PS5, that’s it! The PS5 can play PS4 games from the external HD. That way you save your SSD space for PS5 games! Hope that helps!✌🏽

The Xbox storage expansion is definitely easier in comparison. Convenient plug and play but the proprietary design definitively makes it a less competitive market and keeps the price high. Hopefully Microsoft will learn from this for next gen!

You’re right. It’s never really what is advertised. Once formatted with the PS5. I want to say it was around 6,000 MB/s. Honestly don’t get too caught up in the numbers. This SSD has been great so far and the load times are not affected negatively. You won’t regret having it!

Fair question. So I got the FireCuda before the PS branded M.2 SSD was released. And at that time, the FireCuda was the best console M.2 SSD. Also PlayStation didn’t “make” the WD840. It’s just a collaboration between PlayStation and WD for an “officially licensed” SSD. Either way, the FireCuda has been amazing and so no need to switch. Hope that answers your question! ✌🏽

Does your SSD have a heatsink attached to it? Those units get very hot so make sure the heatsink is applied properly if you did it yourself, otherwise trade it in, yours might be defective.

@@InfinniteLife I don’t believe it does have a heat sink. I have the one in this video (2tb firecuda). I did notice that the honey comb vent inside by the power source is very dusty. Thinking this could be the reason why? I just bought the sabrent heat sink but have yet to install

If it’s the FireCuda like this video, then it DOES have a heatsink already attached to it. Try cleaning out the dust like you mentioned and if you are still having overheating issues, make sure to trade it in for a new one!

You can buy a FireCuda without a heat sink and attach your own. But honestly are you going to get an significant benefit by doing that, probably not. All I can say is, this one works, it’s plug and play and it fits into the m.2 bay with no issues. I highly recommend this one, had it for over 6 months and no issues. My PS5 does not read this Firecuda 530R 2TB. Tried 2 of them n nothing. Turn on PS5 after installation, n it's not recognizing it. Have it stuck in all the way n nothing is happening. Removed it n restall n nothing. Restart PS5 many times n still nothing.

Hey glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. The read speed after formatting was around 6,000 Mb/s. There are faster SSDs out now but I honestly don’t know how much of a difference you will notice. Don’t worry too much about the number. Just know it works great otherwise I would have returned it! I can say this one is nice and fast no issues and I’m very happy with it! You can’t go wrong with the Firecuda!

Nice, thanks for the info.. the firecuda from Seagate is also very reliable, if I’m not mistaken the highest TBW rated SSD and that what matters to me most. Now seeing that the PS5 reads it at 6500 mbs makes it a great choice! The 990 pro reads is about 6558 mbs from other videos.. but rated at a lesser TBW which makes the life of it short..

The internal SSD is 1TB but ~250gb is locked for system memory and OS. Definitely go with what you can and what’s in your price budget but if you can swing the extra cash, I’d recommend at least 2TB. PS5 games are big!

In my testing after having it for a year cache issues to the max after one year the fastest speed you can get it to is about 5200 I've been using a wd black sn850 2tb with heatsink for about the same time in another ps5 and still has speeds over 6800 so no seagate is a bad pick in my opinion from my experience.

That’s a great question and honestly something I did not consider. But to answer your question, No I did not do a firmware update for the SSD drive. It was straight out of the box and into the PS5. the PlayStation formats the drive and give a read/write speed output. Mine was around 6000. After that it was good to go.

Not at all! Easy to install just follow along with my video and it will not void your warranty. You have to mess up really bad to damage the console.

It is highly recommended. Not just for the ps5 but any m.2 SSD in general. It’s a small device with high performance so that means a lot of heat generation. You could see performance issues the hotter it gets or even drive failure. Heatsinks are cheap and easy to add on. I’d play it on the safe side especially if it’s important data. I’ve had the 2TB for almost a year now. And I’d say it’s 3/4 full. But I haven’t deleted any games from it either. I think 2TB is a sweet spot not having to delete games frequently if your someone who rotates games.

Hey so this happened to me recently as well. I’ve had mine for +1.5 years with no problem and just last week, it died on me. I’ve also found a few Reddit post saying the same with the same drive. Luckily, the drive has a 5 year warranty so I’m sending in my old one and they are sending a new one out. People are saying it has to do with the latest ps5 software update but I don’t know if that is 100% legit. Let’s see what happens with the new drive. Will keep you updated once I get the replacement.

Sorry to hear that. Give Seagate a call and they will have you mail it in. But it did take a while for them to send a new one back. Almost 1.5 months. But eventually I got it and it’s been working great.

​@beanbandit24quintero97 just tried a 2nd ssd (same Firecuda 530R) after I returned the 1st one, thinking i had a bad one... n still PS5 does not recognize ssd. Gonna try a different brand to see what happens. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The ps5’s internal storage is already an SSD. This is adding a second SSD for more space. Definitely won’t make the ps5 more quite. That’s due to the fans.

Just like any other hard-drive delete the game. But I also have an external HD plugged into my PS5 so I can transfer games to the external for storage. So far I haven’t needed to delete any games!

Hmmm, that’s interesting. Maybe the updated models have a different looking SSD bay. It shouldn’t affect the functionality or connectivity of the SSD. Most like just a visual change. Did you get the SSD installed and is it working properly?
