I'm glad that the DS5 is bulky now. I used to be a DS fan, but when I got my hands on an Xbox 360 controller (which I prefer over the last two Xbox controller designs), and finished Skyrim with it, I realized that having my left thumb stay upward most of the time just like my right thumb is a really good decision for Xbox controller designers - even Nintendo chose to do it. For me, the way all my fingers are positioned nearer to its neutral position on Xbox controllers thus letting me play for extended periods made it much more comfortable compared to Dual Shocks that require my fingers to grip kinda closer to a closed fist position for my fingers.

The adaptive triggers are awesome. It can simulate the feel of a trigger, even a double action revolver, and in metro Exodus it was used to make it feel like you were paddling a boat. Pluse having a controller that's also a mic is pretty awesome

I only had my PS4 for about 2 years, bought it off my cousin when he upgrade to the pro, it is that white console/controller PS4 that came with destiny ( just to give perspective of how old it is). Hes played countless hours with it and when I bought it the controller still works flawlessly and holds a charge well. I grew up loving Xbox, but I hated the original Xbox controllers. When the Xbox 360 came out, the controller reminded me of the roundness of the PS controllers and I always loved the roundness of their controllers. The original Xbox dug into my palm and it hurt. My hands are huge, but its still painful. Once the Xbox one came out...it seems like they took a step back and almost reverted to the Original Xbox controller and brought back the digging into my palm. PS4 has the rounded edges and it made playing the PS4 much more pleasing cause it never caused me to stop playing cause of hand pains. So PS always wins on comfort and support of playing games nonstop imo.

I don’t notice any rough edges on my DS4, but after using the Xbox one and PS4 controller, the PS4 controller just feels softer and easier to reach the buttons whereas Xbox One feels hard and less versatile (for example you have to take your thumb off the left stick to press the D-pad whereas on the DS4 you have a choice to use your pointer finger and still have full control over the left joystick). It’s still all about preference.

YT I agree with you on the part that on Xbox controllers some buttons are harder to reach like the dpad but I’m used to it because I’ve been using Xbox for 8 or 9 years as for ps controllers (I rarely use) I find uncomfortable because I’m not used to its shape and i would always be pressing the wrong buttons on it an example is in shooting games on Xbox we use rt (right top) and on ps it’s the button on top which would be rb on Xbox (sorry idk the ps controls) so yes it’s all about preferences

I mean not really. It’s basic ergonomics. The Xbox controller is more supportive and cups a larger portion of your hands. That being said that can cause discomfort for people with very small hands. The dual shocks design is outdated. Sorry but it’s the truth.

I can't stand more than 1 hour playing with a dual shock, the thumb sticks on Xbox are in the perfect position and you can easily slide your thumb below for the D-Pad instead of moving it across the controller. It's more efficient and the controller shape itself is more comfortable. It's 70% as to why I got into consoles and also why I chose Xbox.

Not saying Xbox is terrible of course, I'll still play Xbox and it's still in a way a comfortable hold, but I guess with my hands being bigger, I just feel more comfortable on DualShock controllers. I think that the "have this console get certain items ahead of time" is bullshit, like on cod, i use a ps4 and a pc, but the ps4 got that entire game thing to itself, i don't have a problem with exclusive games, mainly cause that's a good selling point, but seriously, if a game isn't exclusive, it shouldn't give specific players exclusive items or game modes or release an entire month before the others. I feel like Xbox's approach to the controller has been of iterative improvements to the same basic platform. Even within the course of the Xbox One we had the original which lacked the nice texture and better bumpers of the later versions, and they were also getting more durable (one of my 4 launch controllers - I naively anticipated good party games - has a faulty right bumper and another has a bit of joystick drift). Then of course there were the Elite controllers - which it looks like this controller is set to replicate the experience of, with no particular surprises yet bringing in that nicer texture and better tech. My elite controller is used to play my singleplayer PC games and is by far and away the best controller experience available. Very happy to see Sony gradually changing towards the 360-style design but I have to disagree with you on the size front... I hope they do make it a big bigger and weightier because that would do away with the awkward hand positioning and make it more ergonomic for adults with regular sized hands!

Nah, symmetrical stick placement all the way. I get to use the D-Pad while also using the left stick with the DS4. This allows me to heal, switch weapons, etc. in various games while staying mobile. All I have to do is use the claw and press the D-Pad with my index finger, or the down or right pads with my left thumb while it's pushing forward or around 10 o'clock. Can't do this on an Xbox controller. Other than that, I just prefer the look of the symmetrical layout cause it's symmetrical. These are the two things that separate the two layouts and the asymmetrical layout just doesn't have anything going for it. It's not bad by any stretch and just as comfortable, but it doesn't have the utility and it's not as clean looking IMO.
