Damn :/ even if someone can't find it in them to show respect, I think it should be pretty universally understood that killing something centuries older than you is really fucked up.

is it racist/hate speech if he finds out that the person that did this was indigenous? In fact the only way he could know the ethnicity of the person who did it was off he was the one that did it.....

hey, I get that it's bad for the trees. Don't make it about race. I spend my days picking up garbage left by "Stewards of the Land " Some indigenous people care about the planet, some do not. It has nothing to do with race or history. If you don't like cultural appropriation, tell all these people who say I can't do things to quit wearing pants , or using steel or electronics . This is about respecting nature, not race, not culture. Just common sense

Nah we Natives have been taking care of the environment for generations and y’all come in and litter and use the plants like they were made or you to use. Native cultures know how to take care of these forests for the next generation, white settlers have just destroyed them. Just look at the evidence, it’s Just Common Sense like you say.

Why does it have to be cultural approacheration? Cant it simply be don't mess with stuff you don't have permission to mess with? And don't practice stuff you don't know how to do on public land or private property with out permission?

Cuz they are doing it in order to pretend to practice a culture they know nothing but the most superficial parts of.

In my view, it crosses a line into cultural appropriation when the actions of someone outside of a culture lead to that person's gain, to the detriment of the people within that culture. One example of this can be the appropriation of the war bonnets of midwestern native groups by big business; These businesses profited while native people all over the continent were reduced to harmful stereotypes. In this case, the damage is a bit more obvious. Someone who is (demonstrably) not familiar with this cultural practice has taken it upon themself to attempt to replicate it. In doing this, they have damaged something of great cultural importance to indigenous groups in this area, hence (in my view at least) cultural appropriation.

@@sensitivedesensitivity7349 ok well is that group the only one that uses bark to make things? I don't really think so. There are so many ways to say what you meant. With out the pc monder political type bs being involved. Simply don't mess with stuff you don't have permission for. This has nothing to do with what a corporation does. And as far as them I don't care i don't care about the cowboys or pirate either.

@@tbjtbj4786 The Coast Salish people actually are the only documented group that uses the bark of western redcedar to make things. I'm not totally sure what you meant by "pc monder", but I used the example with businesses and war bonnets as a device to explain cultural appopriation; The businesses involved in the appropriation of war bonnets are not at all related to this situation.

For y’all who don’t get it, My peoples and many other Tribes here have cultural practices that use plants and animal parts that are from Nature around the USA, and European Expansion has caused these practices to become harder. With millions of the Buffalo Killed off, Natives had to change their ways of life including harvesting Buffalo and using their goods. This extends to plant species that have been hurt by European expansion. And now after all these years and these wars and my people suffer and are kept from practicing their traditions, white people come into the woods with their egos high and try to harvest the things we’ve been using for generations……and doing it wrong lol. It’s just insulting after all this time to be told by white people that were wrong and then watch them destroy the environment. So yes even if you don’t agree, it’s cultural appropriation. It’s just not your culture so you don’t understand it, and that’s okay. Thank you for Making this video and don’t listen to any Haters!!!!
@courtadbobtail6004 ай бұрын
That doesn't make sense though because it implies white people are incapable of understanding when if they cared enough it would probably take them about 20 minutes to learn online. Nobody has more of a right to nature's bounty than anyone else, we should work together to inculcate the appropriate education and respect instead of drawing dividing lines.
@Alex-nb7on3 ай бұрын
poor horticultural practices are not "cultural appropriation", and if it were it wouldn't matter. the thing that matters (and is real) is that it's a destructive way of handling the plants and people should be cautioned against than, not about making some larper upset that they used bark in a way they didn't like.
@courtadbobtail6004 ай бұрын
This does not need to be a racial thing, it's about respect and understanding. Your message could easily be misconstrued as saying "if you're white, don't harvest natural materials, forage or use plant medicine" and that's not fair, whether you understand and respect your environment has nothing to do with your ethnicity.
