Awesome news, although I don’t have much hope for it being cheaper then 40¢pr. They could own the entire market if they drop it to 30, even 35¢pr, but unfortunately people will buy it at 60-70¢pr so I’m sure it will be expensive.

They have to pay off the R&D first. The Russians could make it for so cheap because they've been producing it for decades and did all that manufacturing research long long ago. PSA's basically learning how to mass produce the stuff from scratch.

They likely can't sell it for less than that anyway. It's going to be a long time until that ammo plant will recoup the investment costs.

Well first batch will always be more expensive, it will slowly go down in price after, look at the 5.7x28, it's slowly going down

Legitimately even at $.60 per round, for 5.45, that's still undercutting most other brands. During Covid, I remember saying that expensive, available ammo was one step towards inexpensive, available ammo.

@@fudgerounds91 if they drop at 60¢ they won’t sell nearly as much. Tela ammo is dropping theirs for 40-45¢. They won’t sell as good as tela ammo, and that stuff isn’t even getting bought.

Be interesting to see the street price versus the Bulgarian 7.62X39 being imported. Bulgarian 5.45X39 is supposed to be here this year too. 🤠

@@Oldman650 Global Ordinance imported tons of Arsenal 7.62mm a few years ago and was selling them for $7.99 per 20 rounds at some local shops.

Romania, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Armenia produce 5.45×39 ammo too. I don't know why Romanian ammo isn't imported. Azerbaijan isn't sending rifle ammo to anybody in the Ukraine-Russia War either. So I'm not sure why no importer brings that in either.

They still couldn't sell it. AP pistol ammo is illegal to sell. That's why 7N6 imports were banned. 🤠

No point in reverse engineering an outdated 40+ year old cartridge type. They'd be better off designing their own new rounds, or copying the design of 7N22 or more modern 5,45 cartridge types.

It will be classified as armor piercing which will limit their market significantly. I doubt they would invest in that.

@@rodiculous9464 I'm not saying it needs to be steel core. Wolf did "military classic" which performs like a 7n6 with a lead core.

PSA said they would be making 7.62×54mm too. They should consider making it semi-rimmed instead of rimmed. It would work the same on traditional ×54R guns but would work even better for the box mag-fed ×54 rifles too. That's a small but growing segment with a lot of potential.

I'd rather americans were more vocal about defending their 2a rights when it comes to importation of firearms and ammo. You shouldn't have your 2a rights infringed just because the govt doesnt like russia. its just another form of backdoor gun control.

ehh, unless it drops below 5.56/223 it doesn't matter. I remember the 16cpr days and that isn't going to return.

This can't come any sooner. I did stock up on some 5.45 before the war, and do have a full unopened tin of 7N6 but it's kind of my bug out cache if you will. Its also corrosive so don't really want to shoot it anyway. I do know I an get like 1000 bucks for it, if I wanted but that would be dumb, in case none of this stuff doesn't come to fruition. KUDOS to PSA for being committed to this. I promise if you build it, I will buy it. LOTS of it.

Damnit boys!!! I bought a PSA AK in 5.45 x 39, not thinking about the ammo black hole in Ukraine. Thought that PSA was making some homebrew like a year ago but it DOES NOT sound like 5.45 is a priority at this point. Sounds like they’re struggling to compete with Combloc chems and slave labor.
