Since ninja and crystal assassin armor are both all-class, and “thrown” weapons can be both melee and ranged, you can technically still roleplay as a thrower and still have a reasonable amount of fun. Good luck trying to beat queen slime with an armor set that drops from her beta male husband though.

Bone Throwing Knives are underrated as fuck. They saved my "niche" Ranger run against the wall of flesh because the blowgun was _not_ gonna be able to deal with all the hungry. With the Bone Knives you can just fly to the roof and spam them, when they fall they will hit more of the hungry and the Wall itself.

the fun thing about the thrower class is that it was always ranger, the code treated throwing damage exactly like ranged damage so ranger armor increased grenade damage

Honestly, I think the throwing weapons should count as general damage instead of ranger damage. That way it can benefit rangers’ for a throwing subclass, melee for range compensation, and summoner if you need crowd control, and mage if you’re tired of seeing orbs and beams. I would love a change like that, and maybe we’ll see new weapons that would benefit multiple classes. Maybe weapons like a grenade that inflicts massive knockback in a large radius, or shurikens that summon short-lived spectral stars on hit, or different varieties of bullet grenades, or hovering spiky balls that when hit they release a burst of homing spores.
