Hey Jen! Please interview the Governors of FL and Louisiana and Tennessee and ask them why crime is so high in their states. Florida has one of the highest if not the highest crime rates in the country.

Top murder rates by state: Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, South Carolina, New Mexico, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee. (2022) Mostly red states, mostly states with soft gun laws. Gun control works. "Good guy with a gun" is a myth. Oversaturation of the USA population with more guns than people is becoming a daily nightmare. Before the pandemic, NYC was enjoying historically low crime rates. Strict gun control got us there.

What gets reported to police are not crimes; they are complaints. Whether complaints get recorded and acted on (validated) is another matter. Whether crooks get apprehended , charged, tried and convicted depends on the judiciary. If lots of charges get dismissed, then record keeping is a problem. Handing investigation over to prosecutors was/is a big mistake.
