Psalm 107 - Learning from God’s Deliverance to Returning Captives

This remarkable psalm praises God’s deliverance in four wonderful pictures (returning captives, those lost in the wilderness, those sick and near death, and those on dangerous seas). The four pictures show that everyone’s story is different, and yet everyone’s story is the same.
We also see God's goodness in His transformations of the earth and those that are oppressed.

I give thanks to the LORD for His wonderful deeds; for rescuing me from rebellion against God and sin, redeeming me and starting the work of transformation. I'm starting to see that God is good and His lovingkindness as I read the Psalms, encouraging me to give thanks and Praise. Thank you for opening God's Word, pastor David, and enabling us to learn, and apply, so very much through the Holy Spirit. Oh I agree. His greatest work is preserving my life, keeping me from my own worst enemy; myself & the hidden secrets of the heart. He is able to to keep that which we’ve committed unto Him against that day. Bless His Holy Name.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (October 17), Psalm 107:1-9, 39-43, was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson of the Day. It was entitled "Give Thanks for Deliverance." There are two hymns that compliment this Scripture: Now Thank We All Our God and O Jesus, Joy of Loving Hearts.
