My absolute favorite species. My first tarantula was a P pulcher sling, ended up a mature male. I recently got myself another sling in hopes for a female! The little rebel actually gave me a threat pose, too. They're so wonderful.

Hey Tom! Just want to say I’m loving the podcasts and videos and they’ve helped me an awful lot since i started in the hobby in October 2019! I saw one of these gorgeous Psalmopoeus pulchers in my usual today which sounds like it was the same size as yours when you got it! :) just wanted to say thank you and that I love all the content you put out there! 😊🕷✌🏻

It's hard to choose from psalmopoeus genus! I'm trying to choose my first psalmopoeus. Cambridgei, irminia, and pulcher are all gorgeous and playful.

All that prep....LOL. The key to the easy rehouses. Do all of the just in case stuff, and they walk into the new house like, "oooh nice cup you have there...you do realize it is full o' holes, right?" Very pretty T's and on my "to-get eventually list". Just picked up another P. irminia, and still waiting on the P. cambridgei paring results, so no rush there. I finally popped for a M. balfouri though. Price was right. :-)
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
I know, right? Haha Like you said, though...it's all in the prep. If something goes wrong, you'll be ready for it. Yeah, you might be knee-deep in cambridgei slings soon!

Psalmopoeus is one of my favorite species. Other than Irminia and Cambridgei they aren't all too common here in Canada. Is 25 bucks a fair price for a Reduncus sling?
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Austin! I can't believe it took me so many years to get into the genus. I would say $25 is quite good!

She seemed fairly tractable. Is she defensive like many of the other Psalmos? Not so? About the same? Looking at possibly purchasing one of these.
@TomsBigSpiders2 жыл бұрын
She's more shy and skittish than defensive. I could see her bolting if I tried to handle her, but she had never given me a threat posture.

Hey Tom! Been watching your videos for awhile and I appreciate explaining things regarding husbandry of your pets. I've got a question though for the psalmopoeus genus; do they all have to be placed on a moist substrate? Much love from the Philippines!
@TomsBigSpiders4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Aldrin! Thanks so much! As slings, I would definitely make sure that part of the substrate remains moist at all times. However, if you're in the Philippines, you likely have the perfect climate for these guys naturally (warm and humid). So, as they get older, a water dish will likely be enough.

H Tom, I was searching your videos for an Avicularia avicularia husbandry vid and couldn't find one; I remember you saying in a previous video that there's misinformation out there on this sp. Is their husbandry comparable to Avicularia versicolor?
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
I actually plane to do one as soon as my sling gets a bit larger. I keep them identical to the way I keep my versicolors! :)

i got a 1cm p.pulcher sling as a freebie. any heads ups & tips about how to care for it best? i don't have any crickets small enough for it to eat either. Can i just cut a cricket in half and hope she forages it?
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Meech! I'm working on the husbandry video for that species right now. I kept mine in moist substrate as slings and gave them a piece of cork bark leaned at an angle for a hide. I kept about half of the sub moist, and let the rest dry. They also had small water dishes (bottle caps). As slings, they burrow a bit and hide on the bottom behind dirt curtains (web with substrate). Mine grew fairly fast, hitting about 3" in a year. They're are eating machines and should easily take down small crickets.
@riddermichi7 жыл бұрын
Tom Moran sounds pretty similar to what i have it in rn :D wouldn't take down the smallest crickets i had so i gave it the back leggs of one to eat when it feels like it
@nataschawiegman90436 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have a P. Pulcher sling, got him/her today, and it still didn't eat, I prekilled a small cricket, thats ok with them right?
@TomsBigSpiders6 жыл бұрын
That's very normal. It it's not in premolt, it can take a few days for a newly house tarantula to settle in. I wouldn't worry yet. :)

Does yours Bolt ? Or is she aggressive I'm getting one soon since based on my research they are not Aggressive and don't really bolt probably the only Psalmopoeous that's non aggressive
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
Both of mine are pretty laid back and would rather hide than bolt. I've had no defensive behavior from either. Of the three species of Psalmopoeus that I keep (irminia and cambridgei being the others) the pulcher seems the most calm.
@YungMarty7 жыл бұрын
Tom Moran Yep ,Thats why im getting one soon I do have an Adult female P.Regalis but mine isn't really aggressive not unless she gets pissed with the paint brush
@Poopdeck10154 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, great video. 2 things just came to mind, 1. How do you sterilise your cork bark? Bake, nuke, steam or all? 2. A friend said he now uses a little bit of sand in his substrate mix (a handful and a bit which he claims is about 20% of his mix). What’s your thoughts on that?
@TomsBigSpiders4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Bake, nuke, and steam...all three! haha. I usually wet it down and either put smaller pieces in the microwave and larger pieces in the oven. And I've tried the sand with a few of my enclosures. I like it, but I think that I need to find finer sand.
@Poopdeck10154 жыл бұрын
Tom Moran thanks Tom. I was a bit afraid to mix sand at all but glad to hear in small amounts it’s ok 👌

Hi Tom, what do you use to adhere the water cups to the mainstay corners?
@TomsBigSpiders7 жыл бұрын
I use hot glue. I put a hole through the container and the top of the cup, then squirt hot glue in to great a "rivet". As it's cooling, I pinch off both sides. I hope that helps!

They live in smaller enclosures until they put on some size so that they can more easily find prey items. Then they are moved into larger enclosures.
