Love your honesty! I think it's the major reason I chose PS Audio as my starting point for an Audiophile system. You'll be pleased to know I am using a pair of M700 monoblocks, DSJ DAC, and BHK Pre-Amp..... Heaven indeed 😊

Get a restomodded '63 Corvette. They put a modern drivetrain and suspension on it and it drives like a new one. You could even electrify it if you want.

Someday it might be fun if you could give us a sound sample from the IRS 5s as well as from your current line of speakers. I realize they will ultimately sound like the Klipsch speakers I use for playback, but what the heck,, its still a point of reference for grounding a listening experience.

I like your analogy about the 63 Chevy Corvette vs your Tesla. As much as vintage receivers have nostalgic value, for my needs I like the new ones are far better.

If an alien just landed on Earth and heard an IRS V or Genesis 1 playing some guitar music, would he think and picture the guitar as a giant sized instrument? I have no doubt that speakers like the Infinity & Genesis can do scale; but can they make a guitar or another instrument sound their right size? Or is everything overblown and bigger than life? Is the bass so loud that it dominates the music? I wouldn't know... But visually that's what a lot of people would picture. Could you imagine a good tweaker working on an IRS and the result? It would be stunning. My Infinity Emit tweeter once caught fire and was desstroyed. It was one with the blue lettering. The Girgiev Nitcracker cd was playing. If more people looked into improving the equipment they already have; they wouldn't be on the upgrading train as much. Many audiophiles are like these people who think that because of the degradation of our planets ozone, environment etc.we'll have to colonize Mars or somewhere in 60 to 80 years. We would have to create an atmosphere on Mars where there's air and oxygen etc. If we can do all that; we can fix the Earth. The equipment you have is much better than you think. If you're not investigating tweaking, cables etc., you are not getting. the sound quality it is capable of. Do not assume the manufacturer covered all bases. Some things are just too labor intensive and costly.

Nudell never liked the emim drivers over the true line source bob carver true ribbons they used in Genesis. And from my own experiences (been around the genesis 200/201) far superior to my emim loaded rs1b I had .

Whats crazy is how both genesis and infinity sold the same product until 95 or so when the IRS was EOL'ed
@stimpy1226 Жыл бұрын
I believe you meant EMIM when describing the midrange drivers. The tweeters were EMIT's. I personally liked the Corvette in the first two or three years of production, I believe 1954. That was a true American sports car. In cars as in audio components we all have our own loves. The Corvettes are just a street racer. Point it straight down the road it was fast but that's about it.

Mmm, haven’t checked out anything lately right? Like any road test of the mid engine Vettes or their lap times vis-a-vis Porsche, Ferrari, you name it. Stingray is awesome enough, but the Z06 is simply a world class monster. Still to come is the ZR1 and Zora. Looks like you haven’t been paying attention for decades.

Paul: Here's a quote from an old edition of Stereophile regarding a comparison between the IRS V and the IRS Beta systems. The reviewer is Larry Archibald, Oct. 1988 and he is reviewing the IRS Beta but cannot disregard the IRS V comparison: "At a bit over $10,000/pair, the IRS Beta should by all rights be a poor cousin to the "flagship" IRS V. After all, higher price buys higher quality, right? Particularly when the same manufacturer makes both models. But put that question to the people at Infinity, and you get a lot of hemming and hawing and scrabbling of toes in the dust. No, they won't come right out and tell you the IRS V is better than the Beta. (See, I resisted the urge to make a Terrible Pun.) But neither will they tell you the Beta is beta than the IRS. (I couldn't resist!) But the implication is clear; the folks at Infinity are proud of what they've pulled off in the Beta. And not without justification." An interesting history by you.

I saw one last month in Ohio still on the road pulling a grain trailer. Nostalgia..!! You see them at truck shows today. Compared to the 2023 579 Peterbilt semi I drive today.

There's no way the Aspen speakers out do the IRS 5 speaker in the bass Department with all of those subwoofers

Paul stated in a recent video that the bass was the one area that the Aspen wasn't better than the IRS 5.

@@nodammit 👍 well then he's incorrect by making a blanket statement that it outperforms the IRS 5
@nodammit Жыл бұрын
Specifically he said that the shear bass impact was greater with the IRS5, but the bass was tighter and more accurate with the Aspen, so it depends on what you consider the better performance metric. Personally, I've had systems with incredible chest thumping impact, but when I switched to speakers that still went to 20 hz with less impact but far more realism, it was much more satisfying, so I consider that better performance.@@ryanschipp8513

Paul spent a lot of money just doing the upgrades to those RS-5 speakers he owns. He has past videos uploaded on that you can watch. Nostalgia can cost a lot of money. Gosh a lot of money like living in a old Castle after restoring it back to its glory days of the past. Would you want to live in a Castle if you had the money along with the cost of all the constant upkeep it requires. ??

like the Tesla vs split window, we all live a better life now than all the royal castle dwellers did. We have air conditioning, refrigerators, hot showers and flush toilets. Not to mention smart phones and audiophile stereos. In a few minutes my groceries will arrive at my front door that I ordered online. I marvel at the life I live compared to what we had available when I was a kid let alone compared to kings and queens a few centuries ago.
