I don’t think upsets are as common in College football as they are in the NFL, and college basketball. It’s just that everyone makes it such a big deal when it happens. If Tennessee beats Alabama, the world goes nuts but if the Texans do it to the Chiefs, it’s no big deal. Although I agree that college football is slightly more entertaining, it definitely isn’t because of the upsets.

This true and true for the Big12 as a whole except for Texas, Oklahoma, UCF, and my Alma Mater in Houston. The Big12 is not as good as they say or claim. To check compound the problem with the Big12 and the “hateful eight” as they are known, SMU is getting into a Power Conference and looks really good this year. Also the Mountain West and AAC look to be more competitive and stronger than Big12 right now and just for now. When the season is 6-7 games into the season will truly have a better grasp on which colleges and conferences are best. The PAC12 is vastly superior to the Big12 by far just like last year. Right now it’s a crapshoot with what could be or could not be.

Hell, I forgot for a minute, That texas State from the Sun Belt. That conference needs to compete with the American for the Grove of Five. Troy, Costal Carolina, Appalachian State, and your team James Madison. I like them as well. I'm from Philly. We have Temple an AAC Team, but Sun Belt needs someone to step up as a National Rank team to challenge Tulane or whoever win the AAC.

@@adriansmith5279 The thing I love about the Sun Belt is that it's one of the last conferences that's kept a regional identity in this crazy day and age (the other being the SEC, actually). West Virginia down to Texas. No Stanford and Cal going to the ACC, no West Coast schools going to the Big Ten, no AAC or C-USA schools scattered all over the country. It's a relatively compact (comparatively) conference with great regional rivalries and tremendous balance. The longest trip to a game I can think of would be if Marshall or ODU was playing Texas State. And the best part is that my Dukes were able to walk in, pick up where we left off with some rivalries from our mutual FCS days (Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, ODU) and do pretty darn well for our first year. I'm not sure we'll repeat 8-3 this year but we'll see. QB play is a big question mark. And SBC boosters are generally pretty good about pulling for our in-conference rivals when playing OOC games like this. Wins like this are just better for all fourteen schools. And, that Texas State quarterback looked pretty damn amazing.

Formerly SWT, that was or were contending for national champs at the Div 1-A level for the '60s, '70s and '80s. They had coach (Jim Wacker) that was finally bought out and brought to the Bigs, where the alumni cheating scandals crushed him and his programs. That was TCU.

What's weird is that outside of TCU losing, this has been an odd week for Top 25 college football because not only did only one team lose (soon to be two, and pending outcome of the Clemson game tomorrow), but the VAST majority of teams killed their opponents. This is oddly the most stable top 25 week I have ever seen.

It's because Texas State hired a new football coach, and also brought back an older retired coach from 2005 as an assistant coach, and fired the old coach from previous years, and also recruited new players. TJ Finley for example, was recruited from Auburn University's FB Team.

@mptr1783 that some team went 1-11 last year. One thing I like to mention about CU 1-11 record is that they only win was against a 4-8 Cal team in overtime. Meaning if Colorado didn't have their way in that overtime period, they would have gone 0-12. Regardless of whether they won a game or not, they were still the one of worst teams and, worst power 5 team in College Football last year. And see them in a single game compared to a whole season ago. Damn!

I was a spectator at the incarnate word CSUS game and I read that GJ kinne was the head coach for tsu even though he was coaching the playoff game. I remember watching him at Tulsa putting up decent numbers. He had a pretty good finish last season so this win as a current coach is icing on the cake.

Texas State has a new coaching staff. They've changed the way they do recruiting over the last year. One of their guys are from Florida State so don't sleep on them. Also - they have a new all around kicker, Darius Green from Manvel High School in Texas (who didn't play that game) is about to be a problem for the NCAA! The kid kicks 60 Yard Field Goals, Punts over 60 Yards with 6 seconds of hang time and his Kickoffs are touch backs! Do not sleep on this school.

I’ve never seen a Team fall to the ground so many times with leg cramps especially when Baylor Offense was in rhythm like Texas State did. It was incredulous. Both teams are from Texas and both practice in the heat so it was remarkable. Just my opinion. No one fell to the ground dancing around after the win.
