A recent study investigated the effects of psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, in mice and demonstrated its long lasting effects on the growth and structure of dendritic spines. The authors suggest these changes may underlie the putative rapid and sustained antidepressant effects of psychedelic drugs. In this video, I will give a brief overview of these very interesting results!
I'd be happy to hear your thoughts about this study and continue the discussion down below in the comments section.

One of the uses of psychedelics is administering psilocybin to cancer patients, it allowed them to confron their mortality, remove fear and anxiety and to die with peace and equanimity. What a gift this is.

Ive not had cancer, but I used to obsess about death, the prospect of total annhilitation, and turning to nothing terrified me greatly. After trying pcylocibin, i stopped. While under the influence, i became fire and light, then i started to move away from this world, and went to a place that felt like home, it was warm and peaceful, like ive been there before, and felt full of love, i felt as if i was given all the love that i had wanted and didnt get in my life after that i stopped being afraid of death. It felt like being born again. The medicine told me life is a sacred mission that justifies all the pain and suffering we experience.

For the first time in years I can work physically all day and still have enough energy to do sport after. I can also focus on tasks, work systematically, and be very focused. have you looked at what is causing the pain? for most its just inflammation from their diets rich in gluten, sugars and alcohols and for others injuries and incorrect yet repetitive stress from mechanical loads from incorrect bedding, posture and more. Past cultures avoided anything fungal, its invasive and warned in many texts as long term infiltrating its consented host. This also means no supermarket foods containing penicillin and other anti-biotics or anti-life fungal hybrids. Chametz and its varieties will do anything to take over the host specially their will. Enzymes from bacteria are the proper relationship of symbiosis for mankind while its fungal opponents only infiltrate and sure will help your ailments at first but lead hosts into the wrong direction, its proven historically and still ignored. Good luck

Me and a friend had our Psilocybe Cubensis up for the first time in 1978. What I noticed early on was how the mushroom built its threads and created a network in the jar, which was completely snow white. It glistened from the small drops of moisture that the medium created. It was a powerful experience and the network really resembled what is in the brain. I was struck by the beauty of the image and you could clearly feel a great intelligence present within this network. A biological internet of the highest kind. We knew it early on, and now the facts are finally on the table! It has been with me for over thirty years, opening unimagined doors to paying attention to the great world, beyond the horizon of the five senses. Thanks for passing on this important knowledge!

During a singular occasion, I decided to embark on a profound journey by consuming what is commonly known as a heroic dose of mushrooms. Little did I know that this extraordinary experience would transport me to a realm of surreal enchantment. As the effects of the mushrooms began to take hold, I found myself standing atop a verdant hill, surrounded by an ethereal landscape that seemed to pulsate with vibrant life. It was there, in that magical place, that I encountered a majestic being-a gryphon of immense stature and elegance, known by the name of "The Hornigan." The Hornigan's regal presence was accentuated by an intricate golden helm that adorned its noble head. With wings outstretched and a commanding gaze, it exuded an aura of wisdom and transcendence. Engulfed in a mix of awe and wonder, I engaged in a captivating conversation with The Hornigan. Its words resonated deep within me as it expounded upon the wonders and majesty of conscious existence. The Hornigan spoke of the interconnectedness of all living beings, the intricate tapestry of the universe, and the boundless potential that lies within each of us. That is the reasons governments the world over try to criminalise its use because it is very useful and directly contradicts that which the governments the world over would have us believe.

I just tried mushrooms recently and after 50 of trying various hallucinogens this was only one mushroom, I felt the effects in a matter of minutes, and it is the first time I've tripped with visuals. Very first time. I could have done less I think. But no fantasy visuals. I saw auras around my cat tree. And then saw them elsewhere. My front lawn became checkerboard patterned. That annoyed me. The trees across the street moved their branches menacingly. They moved like black ink poured into water towards me. Had a very nice conversation with my granddaughter who was also doing shrooms. I wish I could have listened to music because when I have tripped before it really enhanced the music. I recommend you never listen to a brand new song you never listened to before, because it will never sound as good. I am still disappointed when I hear Edgar Winter's Frankenstein after all these years. The first time I heard it it was the best. Drum solo in the middle was much longer when I first heard it.

When I was 14 years old I was diagnosed with traumatic scoliosis resulting from a car accident. For years my orthopedist would tell me it's irreversible and surgery was my only option. The pain and nausea were so unbearable I was willing to try anything but refused surgery time and time again. And by pure happenstance, I took about 5 grams of mushrooms ONE time with some friends and I was CURED the next morning. Went to get xrays done a week later and the look of perplexity on my doctor's face when he saw the results, I'll never forget it. And needless to say I've been taking them ever since. Now mushrooms aren't for everybody, but I encourage anyone to try it at least once in their life. Especially those suffering with chronic back pain. My body felt old, frail, damaged. My nerves were damaged. I was alone, felt alone. They showed me that staying in isolation away from friends and family will not lead to happiness. I have been pushing life away for too long and it was time to pay consequences. Normally I have fun, light, wild trips. Like a vacation from life. This time, no vacation, no fun. It was time to sort myself out. It was very difficult. Now a few days later I feel like I am glad it happened. First couple days were not easy. I felt broken and alone. Now I have begun talking to my family again and am starting to feel like myself. Shrooms can have a great impact, but I would not say it’s easy !!! Have a plan !!! And that's why cops say drugs turn your brain to mush, but they're fine with alcohol doing just that. And that's why everyone in law enforcement is either an idiot or a psychopath or are too cowardly to do anything about the ones who are worse. Because they only care about their paycheques. Morals, intelligence, and compassion be damned. But sure, lets trust a gang of psychopaths to protect us from other gangs even though they wait for crime to happen before doing anything... and often ignore repeat offenders and those who have warrants out for their arrest. They have to be ordered to do that, by a different institution. New program for some of Canada... gotta tell cops to do their job or they won't. Also, they're not allowed to do their own autopsies anymore because they can't be trusted to not fudge the results in order to convict an innocent person. And they still lie to the court/judge to this very day.

I definitely feel like my nervous system gets a reboot. I have a lot of neurological damage so its nice to know shrooms are actually good for you in moderation. Its as if the mushroom wants you to know how beautiful it thinks the universe is. You instantly feel cosmic connection and realize life is a presentation for you to give and receive and simply make the universe a warmer place. I say if everyone could try it, we could find forgiveness without God because we would find it in ourselves to make every day count. If I feel sad I just remember what I learned. Sadly it also requires a place to feel safe and secure or you feel the opposite.

I know what you are saying, but we cannot find forgiveness without God, only Jesus Christ can be the atoning substitute for sin that God accepted and for those who repent and believe in Christ and His finished work on the cross can be forgiven and redeemed. 🤍✝️

From first hand experience I will say that after "experimenting" with psylocibe cubensis mushrooms I noticed my own capacity for learning and adapting to situations grew, I'm not exactly sure how to explain what it was like before it's as if that was me but I didn't know that I had such a deficiency in my own intellect or abilities but after I can't learn enough I have a thirst for knowledge that I wish I had when I was in school. I was in my mid twenties and was a bit of a cold I enjoyed drinking and good times with friends. As it would happen the friends had told me about mushrooms and the good time it was, had some and I tried it. Not scientific in any way and I wanted more because I really enjoyed the intoxication they provided I procured them a few times from various sources and decided that I'd make my own to be sure if what I was getting and quickly found my self reading and seeking out more info on almost every subject that I came across. I never microdosed I was going after profound experiences, and found them eventually it seemed to slowly lack in the psychedelic experience and I would have to wait longer and longer between trips to even get a experience at all first 3 days then 5,7,10,15 days till I could get the psychedelic effect, as it got to be too much of a stretch and larger amounts to achieve the results I lost the desire to continue and gave it up. I still find and consume cubies but I still don't get the mind bending introspective moments I remember but I enjoy what I do get which is only a watered down version of the experience. The change in my personality is positive and I feel like my mind plasticity is that of a toddler. I adapt to horrible situations so quick it seems like there is nothing I can't handle. I have seen the new micro dosing trend and I'm intrigued. I'm curious if there would be benefits to persons with brain injuries the ability to regain or gain in general better cognitive reasoning and motor skills. Increases eye hand coordination (I learned to juggle when I was 12 after my mushroom experimenting I learned to do it with one hand, in a day) theres going to be a lot of new ground covered with psychedelics in the near future, I hope the others out there like myself can contribute to the good that will come.

Since it’s believed the mechanism that produces psychotropic effects for ketamine and psilocybin is from binding to NMDA and 5HT2A receptors, respectively. Does this suggest a single common receptor for binding that stimulates dendritic growth or is it through binding to their respective receptors (mentioned above) that initiates or stimulates additional cascade pathways that drives growth? Or did the authors speculate?
@Sqlut
@Sqlut 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe there are two different "triggers" to glutamatergic signaling (NMDA and 5HT2A receptors) which result in similar growth of dendritic spines. What about psychosomaticism?
@Neuropharmacist
@Neuropharmacist 3 жыл бұрын
There was a recent Cell paper suggesting that ketamine directly binds to neurotrophin TrkB receptors to facilitate plasticity, but I don't believe any of that. I believe that some psychedelics and dissociatives, mind the dose, have the ability to facilitate glutamate release and cortical excitability, which can lead to the facilitation of synaptic plasticity (e.g. see the disinhibition hypothesis video).

I definitely believe it. I've eaten this stuff now and then since I was like 15 years old. I can definitely say without sounding super egoic that my brain developed beautifully. Doing shrooms now and then and smoking weed definitely helped me evolve mentally. Its abusing the hard stuff that becomes an issue ( Mostly because hard drugs compromise the immune system, making You susceptible to chronic disease infection ) . I believe the body is fully capable of repairing damage done by drugs and replacing dead cells with healthy ones, but when the body becomes infected with chronic disease, it's no longer able to do so efficiently, so its very important to be careful when doing drugs. For instance, say You are doing cocaine or sniffing some sort of chemical, You dont want to put a finger in Your nose and touch any potential scar tissue, because it could get infected with whatever bacteria You might have on Your finger. Then of course theres the more obvious ways to contract infection like STD's. Dont believe people who say smoking weed makes You dumb. I knew a guy who smoked all day everyday, but he also studied all day and He was beating out all the other kids in his college with a grade of like 99.8% and I think second to Him was like 99.3% . I believe diet plays a huge factor as well as overall mood and of course, habitual daily lifestyle choices.

One of my hikes was the best day of my life, absolutely amazing. I stopped taking mushrooms because of the stigma from others and started drinking again. Later I was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Ritalin. I was honest with my psychologist about my history of drug abuse and alcoholism and he still gave it to me, and now I am totally f’d. Like everything it started of Ok, but enough is never enough for me. I’m trying my best to get the strength to grow them again. I can say first hand that mushrooms worked for me. I can't recommend psilocybin enough for people with obsessive thought patterns. You know what I'm talking about, that merry-go-round of negative thoughts that ain't so merry. Psilocybin micro dosing helped with getting out of the rut of ruminating thoughts about horrid experiences in the past. Psilocybin also stopped my "song stuck in head" syndrome while I was on it. (I'm talking about songs being stuck for days or weeks.) The symptoms come back when I stop micro dosing, so I suspect my OCD or whatever that's causing obsessive patterns is too deeply wired to be truly healed, but it's such a relief to have a respite.

The first two or 3 times, I gained the ability to draw spontaneously and became extremely organized and my grades in school increased. I don't know if it was the shrooms, alcohol, or marijuana, but eventually I lost all of these gains and have been confused ever since with memory and recollection issues. I would say kids should not do drugs or alcohol. Perhaps once your brain is developed try it a few times.

Counteracts: * PTSD ("shell shock" - constant nerve firing caught in an endless feedback loop) * Nerve Entrapment (again, constant firing) It does this by: *Increasing connections of nerves. *Increased connections to allow communication bypassing compromised neurons And / Or *Allows compromised neurons to brake the feedback loop. - Both causes over a prolonged period will rewire the brain - A rewired brain will produce body chemistry chemicals (estrogen, testosterone, seretonin, etc.) - If you treat chemical shortages without fixing the "overloaded feedback loop", its not a fix, just a "band aid" - When fixed, the chemical balance will be off again and need revaluate to rebalance with correct medication. (1) This will not resolve PTSD - Survivors Guilt (2) Selling you a band aid is more profitable for pharmaceutical companies than the fix (3) Finding a good doctor that is more concerned with your total health and not just a quick $$$ will be the hardest part in today's age

The studies show that psychedelics stimulate NBDF and now dendritic grow, the make connections all the brain. But on the other side, the connections are just temporary and instead they destroys useful connections and permanent connections that could be good or bad for one's mental health. The good stuff comes perhaps that the dendritic grow seem to be lasting. But still the question is if the balance is positive and therefore they're worth of taken?

Het i started smoking weed, wax, and tobacco products at age 13, and only quit about 7 months ago, (18 now) ive been reading studies on how much cannabis use in adolescence fucks with your brain, learning, memory, and development, and behavior overall. It's made me super scared and neurotic over my memory, I'm working on my emotions and psychology interally, but is there any way I can treat my brain? Supplements that would reverse the detrimental effects of my stunted development? Restore memories? Gain a better learning capability?

Don't worry about it too much, stress is no good for the brain. The best treatment is to have a long abstinence, eat healthy, do regular exercise and try to get better at learning and studying. You're still young and will likely recover very well.

Given the results of this study and the existing body of work done on Psilocybin, would you personally ingest it if you were suffering from depression? Just curious 🙂
@Sqlut
@Sqlut 3 жыл бұрын
The best is to go through the actual therapy, not just to automedicate by ingesting a psychedelic since there is little to no research paper speaking about depression healing by taking magic mushrooms alone and in an uncontrolled setting. Psilocybin therapy offers great results, but keep in mind the substance is not fully responsible of the final result. There are protocols, therapists, sets and settings which are both playing a role. Now if anyone had treatment-resistant depression and can participate to a psychedelic/dissociative therapy, it's one of their best one-way ticket to healing. www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-13282-7

Nearly all psilocybin research has been done with psychedelic dose levels. My personal experience has been that microdosing can be effective, though this is obviously anecdotal. Results may vary. I was diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety disorder a few years ago. I was taking Effexor (venlafaxine) at 300mg a day, which is nearly 30% higher than the FDA max dose. I had also tried 4 other antidepressants without relief. I began microdosing (0.4 to 0.7g) every 3 days using the Stammets protocol. I started drawing down my Effexor 3 days after my first microdose and was completely off Effexor 6 weeks later.

4:29 It can last 34 days... Could this explain why some people experience a month-long lasting psychosis if we interpret psychosis as a long lasting increase in Glutamate activity? What about people who "trigger their schyzophrenia" with drugs by (maybe) permanently unbalancing their GABA/Glutamate balance? And now, maybe a stupid and uninformed question but could the lasting anti-anxiety/depression effect from psilocybin be the result of the brain "remapping itself" during a glutamate storm, thus learning to manage such an overload of stress? I have so many questions and I have no idea on how to do my own research.
@Neuropharmacist

Hypothetically, there could be a connection. At this time, I think we just don't know enough to draw any conclusions based on spine data. It could also be that the spine changes are mediated by something other than we think - e.g. a novel experience. I'd love to see a psychoactive control group in studies like this.

@Kim Jong-il haha i appreciate the input youre tryna throw down but i think you have me wrong. History is my faith. Catholic is a word meaning all embracing and is my chosen label, because of the churchs historic continuation of such history found in the torah, avesta, earlier vedas, etc etc. but dont have me mistaken, i dont think Rome or the Vatican are or should be the capital or head of anything. Historically, Peter died in Vaticus Rome, but that didn’t mean they had to stay there, which led to emperor constantine hiding behind the word Catholic. My God is the creator that is within and without. These histories were divided into seperate ism’s (Judaism, zoroastrianism, hinduism etc) and mythologies by researchers in the 1500’s.

@Kim Jong-il All due respect friend but i dont think you’ve read the talmud or revelation enough then. The creator, let alone in his first, second, and third coming, is always described as the savior who breaks the chains of the world and gives everyone their creator-given freedom. Free will. Then there’s blatantly a diabolical human man that also tries to fill these prophecies unknowingly and knowingly, causing both peace and disaster. Christ is called the son of God and son of Man; antiChrist is called the son of destruction and the man of sin Now, can the creator judging and punishing people be seen as ‘diabolical’?, yes i can definitely understand this though

I've been on Paxil since 2000. I used psilocybin to quit. No brain zaps, no migraines, no dizziness but I did it slowly. I mean one month from a 60 mg daily dose (which is high) to about 20 mg per day. I wean down in the summer (more sunlight) to a 40 mg in winter. I would like to quit entirely and take psilocybin say once on the weekend and once mid week to stay off of the Paxil and maybe help my brain build its own positive networks so I never have to take pharma again. I will be growing mushrooms this summer and hopefully have enough to last me for a while.
