I didn't expect as much interest in the Vintage Sound as the views of the previous video indicate, so here's what it sounds like after all the diodes are oriented correctly - yes, it matters, and yes, the amp should never have been shipped like that. Even a quick listen would have shown there was a massive problem. Sigh.
You can also see the finishing touches on the '64 JMI AC30/6 and hear what it sounds like now that it's healthy.

These are things I get asked about a lot :

Below are things that make this channel possible that people don’t usually think about. If any of these companies want to send me new and wonderful toys, I’m open to that. I can’t take free stuff when it comes to the amps I review, etc, but for the stuff below, bribe away!

Great videos. Your discussion of this Vintage Sound amp is also a really good life lesson: prestigious specs like orange drop caps & Mercury iron may make for good selling points, but they're no replacement for personal competence and attention to detail. Tone is in many things, and one of those things is the quality of the labor that goes into making our music boxes.

The Post P.I caps did not leak D.C Voltage !!!-They leaked Current !!!.-If one wants to show people things,and perhaps teach a thing or two,keep it correct. Otherwise i like your videos.-Ive retired now but it´s nice to watch.Many are the AC30´s i repaired and renovated beginning in the mid 90´s.-And many years it was just a hard time finding good spares.Nowadays it is so easy.,I might start up again....

I like how you keep your videos short & sweet, I might not have an hour's worth of interest for 2 amps I'll never buy. The Vox was interesting. I feel like those were on like half of the 90s hits.

This video has helped me out of so much frustration! I've been wondering if my vib/trem channel on my '63 non top boost was supposed to have significantly less treble, almost as if there was a soft pad effect to it. When you hop over to just the vib/trem channel in your footage that's exactly how mine sounds.

Hard to believe the prior owner(s) put up with that Fender clone with the backwards diode for 15 years.

Lyle, perhaps you've spoken on this before, but have you had any experience with Frenzel amps? They seem to be relatively low cost hand wired amp heads with some good reviews. They pack a lot in those small chassis, and it almost seems too good to be true. Thanks for your time and effort that you put into this and your work!

Grant me one question: what kind of Casino did you use here? The newer version (brown back and sides) or an older one (sunburst on back and sides)? Or a different one all togehther? Thank you.
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 6 ай бұрын
The new one. Brown back/sides/neck, better neck profile, prettier details, better pickups. Still getting the setup just right - only had it two days so far. I just lowered the nut slots a bit to improve intonation in the first few frets.

@@PsionicAudio Thanks for your reply! Yeah I have an eye on the new ones - as you say everything about them seems better and so far I`ve liked all the sounds I heard. Never bonded with the dull, muffled tone the old pickups had. Cheers!

@@PsionicAudioI put Lollar pickups on my Casino. One thing about fully hollow guitars is that they are easier to work on than 335s (not having a centre block to negotiate the wiring around).

Assuming it is pretty tight, do you see any reason to replace that style voltage/impedance selector , whether here or in an old Marshall? 6:55
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 6 ай бұрын
I don’t replace them, I just hard wire them to one voltage so the old fragile switch is just there for cosmetics.
@lowqualityguitarvideos
@lowqualityguitarvideos 6 ай бұрын
@@PsionicAudio Thanks, for voltage selector thats a great idea. What about for impedance selector on a late 60s Marshall, in the event that hardwiring to one impedance isnt ideal. Do you think its risky to use as is?

@@PsionicAudio hi Lyle, thanks for taking the time. I have a aftermarket Fender foot switch and the wire is so hard and stiff it’s a trip hazard. Looking for something a bit more relaxed that will lay flat on the floor, like a guitar lead.
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 6 ай бұрын
Ah, right. Yeah, the wire in those Fender foot switches is horrible stuff. Insulation cracks too. amprepairparts.com has a generic that uses better quality RCA cables. Better built than the more expensive Fender too.
