Avoid Buying a Home in These Chesapeake Neighborhoods

I live in Riverwalk for the past 12 years. I disagree with most of what you say. yes, RW is some isolated oasis but what an oasis! We are 11min from downtown Norfolk, no noise from the interstate, I hardly hear Oscar Smith high school. Plenty of restaurants, stores, Lowe's. A great place to live.

Sam. Thanks again for the intel. Heading down to look at the southern part of Chesapeake for a retirement home and really like the Great Bridge area. Question. Is there an issue around the Fentress Landing Field area due to jet noise?

I’m also a big fan of Great Bridge! There is jet noise around Fentress - in my opinion it isn’t as widespread as what’s around Oceana NAS in Virginia Beach, but in parts of Great Bridge it’s noticeable. When you’re looking at houses check out the AICUZ noise zone rating for each house. If you see it say 70-75 or 75+ there’s a good chance you’ll notice it the most. I would definitely try to be around on a weekday, if possible, just to give the highest chances of hearing the jets so you can tell how it sounds near where you’re looking. That being said, it definitely isn’t all across the area - it’s a place-to-place basis as to if you’ll possibly care or not, in my opinion.

Norfolk Highlands and area off Sparrow road have roof rats. Also known as Norway rats. They are pretty bad and hard if not impossible to get rid of. Plus the houses are not very nice

I actually really like Poplar Hall quite a bit - the reason is because a) the price for the location is appealing. But 2) I see some speculative value to potentially be had depending on what happens to the Janaf Shopping Center area/Military Circle Mall. That area has been a downer for a while, but if that turns into something that people come to from other parts of the area (an in-demand arena, for example) I'd be interested to see what prices do if people find it worth living near that new attraction.

Your worst post ever! Chesapeake is great! I used to live near Riverwalk and it’s an awesome neighborhood and great people living there. It’s a hidden gem! Try leaving a few blocks away from Virginia Beach Oceanfront and see how ghetto some of the places are. Cut the BS out!
