From my experience in Chesapeake....Western Branch (Northwest Chesapeake) is more relatable to Portsmouth. I was born and raised in Portsmouth when Tower Mall existed. in the 70s and 80s people in Western Branch would shop there before it was torn down. During 1990 when Chesapeake Square Mall was built people from Portsmouth started shopping there. Tower mall was torn down in the mid 90s. Both malls was 13 minutes from each other. Today Western Branch is no longer in the Clipper (Chesapeake) section of the Virginian Pilot Newspaper. To my surprise it's now in the Currents (Portsmouth) section.🤣🤷♂️ Also::: Western Branch citizens identify with Portsmouth. It's only 10 minutes from Downtown Portsmouth. When it comes to Chesapeake: Western Branch culturally similar to Portsmouth (especially the Portsmouth, Churchland) area) South Norfolk=culturally similar to Norfolk citizens Deep Creek= True Chesapeake Grassfield=True Chesapeake Greenbrier=Definitely true Chesapeake Great Bridge=South Chesapeake

Wow, this is very detailed insight. Thank you! I think this could really help people moving here.

You totally skipped over well-established black communities in the Deep Creek and Greenbrier Area. For Example, Camelot, Georgetown Colony, and Georgetown Point. Other than that great job.

Work is relocating my family in August. Any suggestions for apartments? My wife and I are still deciding on an area before purchasing a family home. Commuting to Portsmouth.

Just moved to Virginia Beach and have been hunting for an apartment for our grandmother. We found one, but my advice would be to start looking/calling NOW. Most places require 60 day notice, and as a result they don’t have any available apartments until mid to late august. Some only had open units in September. Typical app fee is $50 per person with a deposit of $500 to hold a unit. Some places have wait lists. Best of luck.

This is absolutely correct. Early is always the move, in my opinion. It's quite competitive not just for buying! As early as you can start calling the better. I'm not sure of what spots are available right now, though.

Would love your help on finding the part of Virginia I want to be in. I’m looking to be as close to the beach as I can but not in flood zone . Is that possible ? I’m not looking to move for a few more months but I am trying ti find where I’m going to look . Flooding is my main concern . I’m a total beach girl but like to go to beaches that are not real busy also . I’m looking to downsize no bigger than 2000 sq foot . Would prefer a one story but will consider a two story so long as the master bedroom is on the bottom floor . Would love for you to help us find our new home .

At this point I'm not seeing that here - I know that's been a problem in many parts of the US
